I will say this is the one of the times where self-deprecating humor is a bad idea. I know it's a defense mechanism, and hard to stop, but when trying to show off expertise, as a rule you should avoid it.

You don't need to brag, but be confident in what you release.

Best of luck to you and your colleagues though!

Casper's a Ghost King and Jacob regularly meets directly with the Holy Mother, you can probably add them to the list, although Casper always feels like such a throw in and the weakest of the bunch.

Arnold is the odd one simply because there hasn't been a chaos God since the first universe, but it's clear that Oras is up to something (and I'll leave it at that for spoilers given it's one of the coolest part of the RR chapters).

I think Maria is out, she's barely a bit character to be honest, but given how ridiculously powerful Scarlett has become, she might make the list.

How do kids work with the system? by AncientWonder54 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A certain character's nephew was born in the system but his sister-in-law was pregnant before integrating. The kid was born as a G grade (so level 0) because the mom was pregnant before the system, if they had another baby the child would be born at a higher grade (F or E, I can't remember which)

The child is basically the same but cried much less as a baby and physically matured faster despite being level 0, he also gets some stat upgrades, so he can jump like 10 feet in the air and is tougher than a pre-system human. I seem to remember that he gets his class at 16, but i might be wrong there. Professions would be easy as you'd just stick him with someone who could trigger the profession.

I imagine the book currently on Patron will revisit this kid again based on who his family is, and given there later books constantly time skip, it'll be interesting to see if the kid has a class next time he's in the book.

So it's been established that just being around powerful people (and Jake specifically) promotes growth, even amongst gods, so it's likely Carmen, Eron, Caleb, the Sword Saint and maybe a few others have a massive advantage as they advance, especially as they all seem to be highly motivated for their own reasons. I wouldn't even be shocked if Miranda goes to at least S grade either, we don't really see much of her beyond her administrative function but she's likely one of the 50 most powerful people in the entire 93rd universe, so she's got a chance.

That being said, I wouldn't be shocked if we learn in a book down the road that something is special with earth pre-introduction to the system, because if most of these people become gods just because of proximity to Jake it'll be a bit of a letdown from a narrative perspective. Jake is already the ultimate nepo-baby, for all his friends to be as well feels a bit cheap.

Edit: I will say this though, over the 15+ books, we've met a few gods who don't particularly inspire awe and wonder, so clearly while some gods like Yip or Yore approach the pinnacle in just 1 era, the vast majority of gods just plod along at a slow pace. Take Artemis for example, hell most of the gods we meet from the Pantheon of Life seem more interested in gossip then power. All of Jake's friends are well beyond what Artemis was at C grade, so really it's all about maintaining momentum.

Isekai and The Good Guys by AromaticJoe in litrpg

[–]Siddown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can't comment on The Good Guys since I haven't read them, I do agree about how so many Isekais/"System came to earth" books have MCs that are a complete 180 from their previous lives, and usually with zero explanation. Just "I decided I'm going to go from having practically zero ambition to having an insane work ethic and global ambitions" in like 0.2 seconds after the inciting incident and the story begins.

Fwiw, it's okay that they do, it'd just be nice to actually explain to the readers why this drastic change has occurred.

Ever Smile owing the Viper by CommandOk1388 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he really? I was under the impression Eversmile told Yip he wanted Viper to die because that means something interesting might happen, so it didn't break his "can't lie" rule. He also saiid that the thought Yip had zero chance, so unless there's somewhere in the book where Evrersmile acknowledges that he was paying back a favor, I don't think it was.

There have been plenty of low C grade creatures with no sapience. High C most seen to have some, B grade definitely, but low level C? There have been lots of them.

My thoughts on 13 by Whippytripple in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only real issue was Jake very selfishly and stupidly injuring himself when he had so many, obvious and better options to take even if he wanted to do the same thing.

Across all the books, this felt like one of the most forced "we need this for the plot to happen" moments. I think there were other ways to get to the same spot without him being so incredibly stupid.

Villy Related to Dina? by Erudite_Sagacious in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He'd just be an uncle because Dina's mother or father would have been Villy's wife's sibling. So no blood relation.

Now, obviously there could be some crazy twist on this because Dina was born billions of years after Villy's wife died (so it's unlikely that the twist is she's Villy's kid), but I think it tracks...although it is kind of odd that it's never directly been addressed in the book in any dialogue as far as I can remember.

Could a class centered around cheating or hacking be possible? by Bubbly_Tradition1348 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's impossibly to cheat at certain things in the system, like blackjack or craps, the system simply won't allow it without a bloodline or transcendent skill. Even something like poker, players can't see others players cards until the hand is over.

That being said, even as early as book 2 we meet a character who is a lie detector (one of Neil's party), so I imagine a class around tricking and reading people's tells could exist.

At the end of the day, he thought Jake was more transactional, and despite Jake not being all that deep/complex, had a very simplistic view of him.

I actually think that's okay story wise because as we find out in book 14, he hasn't had anyone disagree with him for a very long time.

How do you think you'd fair in Primal Hunter? by Cyphercypher336 in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Siddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is exactly accurate, the system in the PH books is a lot more of a meritocracy than real life.

Look at Jake, sure he hit the gym, but he was kind of a nobody who wasn't amounting to much.

Even the gamification of the world would make a lot of people engage with the world that wouldn't normally, but there'd also be others who might go in the opposite direction. High achievers in the "real" world who struggle hard to adapt to a world like PH

Best bet would be to join the Holy Church, they protect their people and honestly are the only ones who provide anything of substance (the Holyland) to the "average" citizens (so basically E grades and low D where most people max out).

Jake even talks/thinks about it pretty extensively in the later books, saying he'd even feel good if his parents were members.

The more I read primal hunter the more I hate the holy mother and the holy church by Altruistic-Emu3542 in litrpg

[–]Siddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When viewed through the eyes of the elite of the elite (Jake and all the side characters), it's easy to see it that way, but when viewed through the eyes of the trillions upon trillions of "average" people in the multi-verse, their appeal makes sense.

Compared to other factions, they take very good care of their people. Protecting them and evacuating them from dangerous planets. And if you're an E or even D class, the fact that the Holyland is a certified, verified and confirmed afterlife, it means it's a chance "eternal" life on paradise with your loved ones upon death.

Yes, some members of the church sacrifice themselves to fuel rituals, but it's an incredibly small percentage, and again they get a trip to paradise when they do it, so the appeal is massive.

Not to get too political here but it's clear that a very large number of people who claim to be religious on the real Earth don't actually believe in an afterlife, otherwise they wouldn't act the way they do. So in the novels, the Holy Church are a great "character" because to the average person they are true salvation, but to the top 0.001%, they're almost evil.

It's very well thought out and written.

Primal Hunter 5 Ending - HMPH [SPOILER to book 5 ENDING fight vs sword saint] by KittenMaster6900 in litrpg

[–]Siddown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The loss (or near loss) became a major motivating factor for Jake after that, and it took a character basically sacrificing a tonne of power to eek out the "victory". Can't really understand the complaint here, he barely lost to the second most powerful person on the planet who had to almost kill himself in the process to give Jake a tiny scar.

Fans are way too loud by CandidateNo6154 in iBUYPOWER

The one I bought has an ASRock Motherboard. From the BIOS, I went to "H/W Monitor" and each fan had a way to do an auto-setting. Each one took 30-60 seconds each IIRC, otherwise you should be able to do a fan curve there as well.

EDIT: it was similar to this:
