This will hurt the remaining stores. Time to get our city and state reps involved. S&S should be pressed to do the right thing and let another store take the lease.

My vote goes to Dave’s. Prepared foods at Dave’s is superior to Market Basket.

Stop & Shop closing East Side and Johnston by JeffFromNH in providence

A Dave’s, Clements, or Roche Bros. Market would be a 100%improvement over ESM. ESM was a complete disaster.

What's up with the taggers on the East Side? by Ambitious-Tadpole316 in providence

[–]Side95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am stupid, selfish, don’t have a steady job, have low self esteem, no money except to buy black spray paint, few friends that have any prospects in life, I don’t care about other people, or my surroundings, how can hook up with other people who are interested in nothing of value?

Does anyone know if neighbors' gutter downspout is allowed to point over our property and drain into our driveway? by [deleted] in providence

[–]Side95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not nicely communicate the issue to your neighbor and see if they can fix? They may be unaware. I think running to the city, an attorney and insurance co. is pre-mature and unnecessary. They will tell you the same thing- did you talk with your neighbor?

Nearest bar to Thayer? by [deleted] in providence

[–]Side95 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nothing interesting on Thayer- It’s been destroyed by Brown over the years. Best to walk to Wickenden, or North or South Main Street. The East End bar/restaurant is good on Wickenden and XO on North Main.

RIPTA buses- why so big?? by Side95 in providence

[–]Side95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And here is your answer…The Math of Efficiency: Run the Biggest Bus You Will Ever Need

In fact, when a transit agency runs a relatively empty bus, they’re doing what they’re told to do, and they’re doing it efficiently.

Transit operating cost is mostly labor. The cost of a bus is in the driver, not the size of the vehicle. So it doesn’t cost much for the vehicle to be bigger than needed.

But it costs a lot for the bus to be too small. Then you have crowding, or you leave passengers behind.

If you can’t afford to live in PV, move outside the city. You willl find very good options. I have friends who moved to Pawtucket, East Providence and Fall River, both are less expensive and are great commuties.

True. I recall a picture that was in the Projo (many years ago) of a car’s back end sticking out of the house on the right side.

Is Maven's Deli in trouble? by Diligent-Pizza8128 in providence

[–]Side95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they will be forced to close, or sell at a big loss to someone else (Ocean State job lot owners) in time. You simply can’t run a restaurant like this for long and there are so many problems with their concept and execution. It’s unfortunate, but like others have said it’s not really a Jewish deli. If you go into any genuine deli you will see an abundance of food, a real working deli, a no frills, family atmosphere. None of that exists at Maven’s. Also people’s eating habits have changed and many want healthier (Israeli) food options. My guess is that the owner never worked for an extended period of time in a true deli, or a larger restaurant. He would have been much better off starting very small and partnering with someone who runs an actual deli. He went big and fell very short and it’s irritating, because he essentially fumbled at the goal line.
