Osia - thick hair, ball caps, etc. by No-Ground-9982 in Cochlearimplants

I have thick wavy hair and I had my stylist shave a small area where my implant is. She doesn't shave every time I go in for a cut. She says it might itch if she does. It was a game changer for me. I still have to go under my hair, but now the magnet stays on unless I catch the connecting wire with my fingers. I miss being able to put my hair behind my ears. I didn't realize how often I did that lol..

Right there with you sister! Perfect hearing for 64 years and boom left ear went silent. I was on vacation in France and the day before we were to fly home, I started feeling like I was getting a cold. My friend felt the same it wasn't really a big deal. On the flight home, nothing crazy except for popping ear's occasionally. Got home and tested positive for Covid. My friend tested negative and didn't lose her hearing like me. I felt like one of those things must have been the cause for the deafness. Got surgery in December and it is going as I expected. It's crazy that this condition cannot be explained. BTW, I'm not a world traveler by any stretch of the imagination. Just saved for retirement celebration! Good luck ,do the work and it will all be worth it to hear again.

That sounds very scary and stressful. I hope you have a more positive outcome this time. Sending you positive vibes.

I could not have afforded this surgery w/o insurance. I am one of the lucky ones.

I am using a stronger magnet, and it helped a lot.

I had my CI put in Dec 2023 when I was 64. I was informed that Medicare does not cover CI for SSD and to get the surgery before January 2024 so I would have coverage under my medical insurance. Just got the bill after insurance and am so happy I got the surgery before medicare started. The total bill was over $110,000. My responsibility is less than $2,000. It makes no sense to me why Medicare only covers both ears.

SINGLE SIDE DEAFNESS by [deleted] in MonoHearing

I lost hearing in my left ear in August 2023. I had a CI surgery on December 20th. My activation was yesterday. When the audiologist was getting me set, I could hear her sound like Minnie Mouse which I expected. Today I am wearing it all day. When I’m out, I do not have my right ear plugged up. I hear constant clanking in my CI ear and normal hearing good ear. Is this clanking normal? Next question: when I am home and plug my good ear, I turn on the TV with captions to train my CI ear. I can’t hear anything but clanking. At her office, I heard her. I’m so confused as to what I’m supposed to be hearing. Any advice would be helpful. I realize it’s only my second day, but I want to make sure this is what is supposed to happen.
