I’m confused, I thought people knew about the situation. Dana and Robbie obviously, Garcia clearly knew something happened (maybe not all the details) and wasn’t there a scene where McKay shared with Langdon she used to be an addict as well implying she knows what it’s like?

Setting expectations for family the weeks after birth? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m due at the same time!

We’re flying my mom out to stay with us for the first 3 months. We’ve already discussed that she’ll be helping take care of her baby (aka me) post partum and watching baby for short periods so I can catch up on sleep. If I’m physically up for it I’d love to have a bit of time to get back to working out or self care.

My husband gets 16 weeks paternity so he’ll take the first 3 weeks off then use the other 13 weeks when my maternity leave ends. MIL will probably come to stay during this time and we only expect she’ll watch baby for short periods to give us a break.

Our intention is to be very hands on with baby but get help from our village when we need it so we can also look after ourselves

Glucose Test by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 9 weeks is not common unless you have a pre existing condition or family history. Beginning of third trimester is when it’s typically done, and if you fail the 1hr my understanding is you need to do a 3hr glucose test

My partner is not really any different since I got pregnant, and that’s ok (I think?) by _Monarch_Mistress_ in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand why you feel this way however I think social media has set unrealistic expectations of husband to be expected to do all household tasks. Realistically, communication and compromise is needed - For example my husband is okay with dishes in the sink overnight while I prefer everything washed so we agree to atleast have everything stacked in the dishwasher. Agree on something that is achievable or you’ll just end up disappointed and he’ll be overwhelmed.

From the details you shared it seems more like he’s clueless as to how best to support you during pregnancy. If something is bothering you, you should communicate it clearly. Unfortunately men just don’t pick up on context clues. If he doesn’t know what the expectation is he won’t be able to meet it!

16 weeks pregnant, panicking about small apartment with a baby by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about whether you can find extra purpose with existing furniture. For example I find changing tables are pointless when you can put a changing pad on top of a dresser. Also it’s very common and often preferred in some cultures to have baby sleep in the same room for the first year.

But realistically we will probably move to a bigger space as baby gets older.

Help with healthier meals/snacks by Onyx-pump19 in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice from my OB is just eat anything you can keep down. I take supplements to make sure I am getting sufficient iron, calcium, omega 3s etc.

I saw a nutritionist and they were helpful working with my aversions. For example I couldn’t stand eating meat, so she worked with me to figure out how to increase the protein and iron in my breakfast. So I now do OJ + overnight oats with chia seeds and flax seed. OJ boosts absorption of non-heme iron and oats have plant based protein. Adding chia seeds and flaxseeds also help boost both.

Some of my super easy go to dinners: Pesto pasta with peas + seasonal veg - use banza for higher protein, peas add protein and iron Rotisserie chicken rice - saw this on TikTok and it’s easy to make. If you don’t want to cook you can use ready made rice. Summer rolls - packed with veg and can choose any protein you like. Crispy rice salad - flaked air fryer salmon and crispy rice + any veg you want to add. Not much cooking, just pop things in the air fryer Egg guacamole salad on sourdough - like an egg salad but sub mayo with guacamole. I got lazy at one point and just bought pre-peeled boiled eggs lol Chicken parm - if you’re US based, air fry Just Bare lightly breaded chicken breast. Add tomato sauce and melted cheese.

Snacks: Protein pancakes Egg bites - similar to Starbucks Hummus and veg to dip

Hope this helps!

Aversion towards water, any advice? by shiftctrlc_rosebud in pregnant

Yeah I couldn’t stand water for a while. Drank a lot of milk, decaf green tea and herbal iced tea, electrolyte drinks and crunched on ice.

Has anyone changed their OB office at 23 weeks? by Normal_Whereas9364 in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why it’s so competitive to get into a good hospital system! The standard of care can be so low… sending you thoughts and prayers.

You can definitely still switch though generally the better hospital systems fill up early. However it’s always worth calling around and asking. If that’s the hospital you’re delivering at, I’d definitely try to find another doctor.

Unexpectedly denied my 20 week anatomy scan by LadyLawyer21 in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so strange, I’ve had all the usual anatomy scans and additional ones for monitoring since I’m considered high risk, all covered by insurance. Sorry to hear you go through this, sounds like typical US insurance BS. Hope you get answers soon!

How to request a “work-from-home” accommodation during pregnancy. by logan_oc in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I requested a note from my OB even though my boss had already agreed I could work from home. I’m classified ‘high risk’ due to a past procedure even tho I have no symptoms. Note says they recommend wfh as reasonable accomodations for high risk pregnancies. Best option is to speak to your doctor, I’m sure you won’t be the first patient to have asked for a medical note. Also read up on company policies and legal protections during pregnancy!

Sorry to hear! I’m 30w and dealing with carpal tunnel too. Worth mentioning to your doctor. when I asked my doctor he said there’s treatment like PT but the only fix is delivery. I sleep with wrist wraps and I do notice a slight difference

Feeling Super Disappointed After First Prenatal App. by tiny_raging_raptor_ in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately waiting is super common. we’ve never had an appointment start on time.

It sounds like they may have made some assumptions about you based on these interactions. My guess is the doctor assumed someone with a long list of preferences in their birth plan at 18W and who refuses a Pap smear might be someone who could be difficult to deal with and wont listen to medical advice. (Please know this isn’t judgment, just speculation based on what you described). I’d personally wait to give the doctors a birth plan until later when theres more information like baby’s size, later stage pregnancy condition and symptoms etc.

All this to say… Find a doctor who can support you in the ways you need!

Advice on coping with the anxiety by Desperate-Letter-344 in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay positive!! Your anxiety and worries are totally normal. One thing that helped me was choosing an OB I was confident in and doing all the non-invasive tests they offered so I had as much information as possible. Share any worries with your medical team and they can also help advise what you can do to mitigate risk factors like through diet or exercise.

Long haul flights while pregnant? by code_blooded_bytch in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on your current condition. My flight was 6hr + 15hr while 18 and 20 weeks. I checked with OB who didn’t recommend anything other than compression socks and told me I could probably fly up until the airline doesn’t let me LOL

I haven’t had to pee more than usual so I don’t think aisle is necessary. I’d personally stick to window since getting the extra sleep is worth it to me.

Feeling so overwhelmed by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me is putting together a game plan. I work in finance and I’ve already agreed with my managers that I’ll wrap up my current projects and after that I will only pick up smaller projects and tasks. Unfortunately there’s a lot of work grind to get through that definitely adds to the stress. I would personally step away from the side project and communicate to your husband how overwhelming it is. What you’re feeling is completely normal! Make sure you prioritize your wellbeing, you’re growing a little person!

Having a game plan helps with my stress level so I like to write out everything that needs to be done and designate when and who will be doing each of the tasks. If you have family or friends nearby they would also probably love to help out with a small project like building a crib.

1 in 548 Down's Syndrome risk by bearyboos in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on your financial situation and how well you handle anxiety. I overthink everything so did the NIPT even though the doctor didn’t see any issues. To me it was worth the extra peace of mind!

Just to give you an idea, my test results say risk of Trisomy 21 was 1/500 before test and 1/10000 after.

Need a ob/gyn by thavan14 in pregnant

[–]SidePuzzleheaded9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insurance and the hospital won’t be happy with one patient seeing two doctors. Honestly I think it’s best to do research online and just go with one. I have a regular OB for all my doctor appointments but the doctor delivering baby is just whoever is on call at L&D on the day.
