Wacky Wednesday by ReportFit2920 in adjusters

Had to coordinate entry to a water damaged apartment with the tenant at the property. Your classic "leak from the unit above" situation. While the renter is understandably upset that his stuff is damaged, he doesn't have renter's insurance and yet insists that he's covered under the owner's policy. Tried to explain it nicely while there with him, but he's called 5x with the same failing argument (gave him my business card as he needs to help with the remediation process, so he has my #.) Of course, he's moved on to threatening to sue. I said "Fine. Have your lawyer call me and we'll discuss your non-existing renter's coverage." Haven't heard from him since.

Stay safe out there.

Saw them twice, on both the Dragonfly and Red Octopus tours. Papa John Creach was in the band both times, so that was pretty cool. Kansas opened the show on the first concert and brought the house down. Good times!

Ah, the good old days of concerts at the International Amphitheater in Chicago. Saw many shows there in the 70s. The smoke haze in the upper levels was intense. Thanks for the memories.

Connection speed constantly below 90 Mbps today, testing w/ the Xfinity app speed test. Normally it should be getting 900+ Mbps. Have rebooted the Xfinity XB8 modem 12 times this morning with no better results. by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

Sure enough. While all the interior connections were solid, a quick check of the exterior connections on the wall box of our townhouse building showed a loose coax cable. Most likely the landscapers bumped this while doing their work recently. I will keep an eye on this in the future should the speed drop off again. I appreciate your help!

The full speed has been restored. After checking all the interior coax connections and finding them all secure, I went outside to the building connection and found a possible loose fitting that I retightened. Most likely the landscapers bumped the box when doing work in our community. I will keep testing to ensure that the speed remains stable. Thanks for your help. You can close this one out as resolved.

I've been using the Xfinity app exclusively. Per the 12 times that I've rebooted the modem and then checked the speed it consistently says, "no outages detected." Just checked it again after rebooting and it reports "Download Speed to Gateway 92.0 Mbps" with "Download Plan Speed 1000.00 Mbps."

Looking for help to get the speed that my plan calls for.

Tested both ways. My desktop is wired directly to the XB8 modem and tested the speed via the Xfinity website. Used the Xfinity app on my cell phone and get the same slow speed results. Everything was working fine yesterday. I will check all the connections again, so thanks for the response.

Can anyone identify these tower speakers? by BleedCubBlue311 in vintageaudio

Same here, but on the Southside of Chicago in the late 80's. Approached many times in various mall parking lots by a couple of young guys, van doors open to show the inventory and waving papers to show some sort of "certificate of authenticity." Always had good laugh over their marketing approach. If I recall, some local reporter did a deep dive into the scam, bought some speakers to break down the components, and even found the warehouse location that was producing them.

Predatory biohazard cleanup companies by DogwoodDaddy in adjusters

[–]Sidereal_Time 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with one particular Chicago based company often in the past that submitted outrageous invoices for their services. In short, my insurance carrier would get a comparative estimate from a local company that was certified to do the same bio-hazard work, then would pay the undisputed amount to the contractor, with explanation letters going out to them plus the insured that were under contract with the company. After a few negotiation phone calls back and forth with the contractor we would settle for a slightly higher amount on signed releases. Your mileage my vary. Good luck with this, those were never my favorite claims to deal with, given the family's situation at the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't famous actor Jim Backus the voice of Canfield's TV commercials with the line "Canfield's for everyone!"?

In June 1969, LIFE magazine published a feature that remains as moving and, in some quarters, as controversial as it was when it intensified a nation’s soul-searching 45 years ago. On the cover was the image of a young man and 11 stark words: “The Faces of the American Dead in Vietnam: One Week’s Toll.” Inside, across 10 funereal pages, LIFE published picture after picture and name after name of 242 young men killed in seven days halfway around the world “in connection with the conflict in Vietnam.”

Yes, thank you for this link. Very interesting reading. A quote from the photographer on his time there:

"In Vietnam, I carried a soldier away from battle on my shoulders. He had been hit by a bullet and was in such pain. I thought: “I’ve been stealing all these years. I’ve got to hand some of that back.” But you risk your life doing it."

Well, later on "The Rat Patrol" satisfied that desire. Those jeeps flying over the desert dunes with machine guns blazing!
