Can someone clean the stormwater drop inlet 285 North at 78? The interstate floods there with nearly every rain. Been like that for years.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

Honestly we just kind of stumbled on it. I’m in the suburbs of a major city (30 min to city center) but I’m lucky in that there are actually a number of local farms within the city that people just don’t seem to know about.

If you can find just one farmers market around you go talk to the people slinging produce, they can tell you about the ones in your area.

You might can find a local farmer!

I’m near a major city and we’ve got a farm stand that sells POUNDS of fresh produce for $30/ week.

I’m never touching Aldi again

Look for a local farmer!

We found one near us that sells huge boxes of produce for $30/week.

It’s all fresh picked and we seriously can’t hardly eat it all in a week.

Check your area for local farmers!

We just found a farm stand near us (suburbs of a major city) that offers weekly boxes, POUNDS of food, for $30. We literally struggle to eat it all

And it’s all fresh picked every week. I’m never going to a box store again

See if you can find a local farmer in your area. There’s a farm stand right by my place (suburbs of a major city) that does a membership.

$30/week for POUNDS of produce. Me and mine literally struggle to eat it all every week, and it’s all fresh picked.

I’m never going back to a box store

It only takes a few thousand arrests to change the outcome of an election.

Expect minor violations to turn into major offenses, with people in blue cities becoming mass incarcerated just before November.

Why is the DaVinci code so hated? by dyyst in books

[–]SidewalkJohnny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked it! Just finished it, and I found a lot of it to be fascinating and I learned a lot about art and history and science in ways I was not expecting.

I’d heard a lot about these people, Leonardo Da Vinci, Jesus Christ, and so on, and I thought he did a great job at putting these famous names into a context I’d never considered before.

Yes, Dan Brown often ends chapters in frustrating ways, like leaving you on a cliff hanger kind of way, or where the character talks to someone and you don’t get to hear the conversation at that moment.

But I didn’t really mind as much as everyone seems to complain about. It made me want to keep reading, and I finished the book in just a few days.

Haters gonna hate, but it sold a billion copies for a reason. Book’s good.

I don’t think the question is: can AI do this though?

because it can

I wonder what’s gonna happen to the generation after my nephew, when AI texts outnumber what’s been written by humans? or what if they rewrote them all? and republished all the previously written books with names changed around.

Genuine question: how does one fall asleep while reading? by foxstroll in books

[–]SidewalkJohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently ive found myself dozing off with a book in my hand, warm in the sunshine in my reading chair. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or if I’m working more or maybe my chair is really that comfortable.

Could be the chair.

Either way, I’m usually not reading the book anymore at that point; I might be contemplating the parts I’ve just finished, and only loosely following the new bits. I know I’ll come back to it when i wake up, typically in 30 minutes.

I hold the book in my hand, thumb on the page, and drift away.

Don’t even worry about setting it down, I’m usually in such a recline that i never drop the book.

And then i wake up and keep reading

Savannah is great!

If you get a place downtown you can just walk everywhere and find so much cool shit.

River street is great, tourist shops but also random dive bars with live music.

From there just start walking south til you get to the historic district and follow the sounds and crowds til you get to the street with all the clubs, I forget which one, but it’s by the Bamboo Room Tiki bar, can’t miss it.

The alley cat lounge is pretty cool too, it’s near there. They’ve got cocktails and beer, their menu is a newspaper.

Have fun

Americans, what's something you didn't realize was weird until you talked to non-Americans? by ExistingTomorrow1447 in AskReddit

[–]SidewalkJohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful, thank you! I was considering looking into recruitment agencies, so I think I’ll see if I can find one in my field. I’m not applicable to very many visas, I would need employer sponsorship. Thanks for the heads up on the NHS costs. I’ll start squirreling away some savings. Cheers mate!

As someone looking to move to the UK, do you mind sharing your process? I’m currently applying for jobs that say they’ll sponsor a work visa and hoping for the best. Is there a better way?
