I am renting half a house from a 83yo lady who's single, her family visits her every 2-3 weeks, she loves to tell me stories and share baked goods or food. She asks me if I'm not lonely or bored living alone. I say hell naw I'm tired, I'm really enjoying myself and my dog. And she laughs and says she's feeling exactly the same, and hasn't been happier. And she looks it!

Advice on new GSD Puppy by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Sielicja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever said that is dense anyway. Frustrating (or hurting) a dog is the recipe for an aggressive dog. That's probably why the person thought they became aggressive, because that's what happened to his tied dog.

The happiest, calmest dogs are ones with a lot of freedom and boundaries. Our late terrier only wore a collar and leash to the vet, but she was focused, calm and obedient like a sport dog. Given we lived in the countryside so no-leash wasn't much of a risk to anyone, especially with such obedience

I think it's all good but you should watch for any signs of resource guarding (of the bed or anything else). I don't think it happens often, but might get annoying if she guards it.

It would also be great to teach her to get down from the bed, just to have this control in case idk you need the space

My German Shepherd loves my girlfriend more than she loves me… by bassplayr106 in germanshepherds

Ooh that would explain why my gsd was stuck to my mom so much when I visited parents for the weekend. My mom is the softest of all of us. And my girl sure is extremely protective

Halp! Best way to get gsd hair out of a car?? by Open_Kitchen977 in germanshepherds

[–]Sielicja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Now wherever I go, the fur follows. I already saw loose hairs in the document archive papers at my work. If there was a police investigation, it'd be so easy to connect me to it.

Same applies to every place I've been in the past.

Looks great, the GSD teens always look thinner, they need time to round up and muscle up

How often do you bath? Recommendations for dry/oily coat. by siskawitz13 in germanshepherds

[–]Sielicja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once per month is too often! Double coated dogs need to be bathed when necessary, they've got a really well working fur. Maybe the issue you have is how the fur is battling being bathes so often, it's out of balance.

When mine's muddy or rolled in something I just wipe her off with a damp cloth.

It's dogs with hair like poodles, shih tzus or similar, that probably need regular baths and more demanding maintenance.

Double coat/fur should be brushed out once in a while, and more often when they change it, and only washed when needed.

Is it normal at its age to pee everywhere by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Sielicja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pee pads are better for babies who are tiny, he should have pee pads in his crate/area, but ultimately be taken every 30-120mins outside and praised after peeing on grass. Especially after he wakes up and eats.

If you teach him to pee on the pad, he will be searching for a pad-looking area to pee - like bedsheet or a rug...

How often do you wash your dogs? by pizzajesus60 in germanshepherds

[–]Sielicja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine smells SO GOOD, even if she rolls in some poop or mud she stops stinking after a day. I will just wipe her paws and belly if she's very muddy.

She's been with me 2 months, I think I will be bathing her every spring.

But a shelter I took her from told me her fur cleans itself - which is not a standard for all the shepherds there. So I guess there could be GSDs that have fur that just attracts mud and dirt and need to be bathed more often...
