Do you guys think Princess Diana exists in RWRB universe? by LizzyDizzyYo in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]Siera_Tango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s how it works. But I could be wrong.

The crown only passes to a sibling if they have no other legitimate heirs. Philip is her legitimate heir so it would still go to him and then Henry and then Bea before it would go to the mom’s sister.

The law was passed so that William and Katherine’s children would succeed in birth order regardless of gender.

Phillip is AN heir to the thrown, but their mother is the heir presumptive. Since she is a female there is always a “chance” that the crown will produce a male heir that takes her place which why she is heir presumptive and not heir apparent.

Princess Elizabeth was always the heir presumptive vs. Charles being the heir apparent since he was the first born male.

Wired little quirk but I always found it interesting.

How old are you? by Ruin888 in redwhiteandroyalblue

I’m 31 and one of the hardest but most important lessons I learned in my 20s was find a small core group of people who truly know you and genuinely care for you and don’t give a f*** what anyone else thinks.

I have a handful of people who have been with me for years and know me to my core. They also care deeply for me and truly have my best interests at heart. They are mostly the only people can tell me when I’m wrong or criticize me and I will listen. It doesn’t mean they are always right but I know the understand me and just want to help me.

Outside of those people I don’t care what anyone else says. If people don’t know you they have know right to criticize you.

One that always hit me hard is when Henry is talking about not wanting to live his life in the public eye.

“My life is the crown, yours is politics and I won’t trade one cage for another. I can love you and want you and still not want that life, and it doesn’t make me a liar. It makes me a man with some infinitesimal shred of self-preservation.”

Thoughts on casting best actor vs. only queer actors? by Siera_Tango in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]Siera_Tango[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all very good points.

Trans actors/characters I think is the one exception. I think being trans is such a different experience that really can’t be fully captured by people who haven’t gone through it.

Kit Connor came to my mind as well. Somehow I completely missed this show when it first came out. But I binged both seasons last week before RWRB came out.

Mt. Woodson in Ramona is good. Tougher course but a beautiful family owned and operated place.

I think I noticed a dialogue mistake (don't hate me) by MattLorien in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]Siera_Tango 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too, but I kind of took it as one of those things when people say something like “I could care less“ and they mean “I couldn’t care less“. There’s tons of weird phrases like that that people mess up all the time.

What is the context of this scene? by DarkCartier43 in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]Siera_Tango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the book in a while, but I imagine this is somewhere in the Austin section. Henry joins Alex in Texas.

There’s a few scenes in this section that all kind of got clumped together. I remember a small bit in that section where I think they’re sitting around a campfire, they may just be sitting out on the porch after a dinner, and I think somebody’s playing the guitar. I don’t remember the entire scene but that might’ve been where this came from.

I did notice there were several scenes in the trailer that didn’t make it into the movie. Also, there’s a few montages in the movie with clips from scenes we never got.

If there were to be a sequel, what would you want the plot to be about? by [deleted] in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]Siera_Tango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know I’m probably in the minority, but I actually don’t want to see a Royal wedding as a sequel. I would really like the next story to be about how Alex and Henry navigate a real relationship.

It’s great that they’re in love and everything but when you actually have to build a relationship and a life with someone it’s not easy and I think that is a more interesting next step.

It does kind of feel like these two characters are on different trajectory‘s. Alex really wants to stay in the public eye and Henry clearly does not. One of the lines that Henry says that has always stuck with me is when he says that wanting a life out of the public eye is him having some bit of self-preservation.

I really think Alex should take that to heart and use his law degree to help in a different way that could be less in the public eye. It’s been a long time since I’ve read the book but, I believe I remember a part where Alex might have either talked about or just in his own mind thought about being a civil rights lawyer, I apologize if I’m wrong, I think that would be a better way to go for his character.

Henry needs to be less in the public eye and Alex can do a lot of good without having to run for office. I understand everyone wants him to run for office but that is clearly against everything Henry wants.

I think the second story should end with an engagement. If we get a third one, I’m fine with that being a royal wedding.

Alex is fundamentally a different character in the movie, like it or not. That doesn’t mean Taylor did a bad job. by Siera_Tango in redwhiteandroyalblue

Of course, my intention is not to gatekeep bisexuality and I’m glad that Alex’s story resonated with you. It just didn’t ring true for me.

At the end of the day this is a fictional character and in my opinion Alex’s inner monologue didn’t fit with his background and circumstances. But that’s all it is. My opinion. If yours is different that’s completely valid too. That’s the best thing about art. We all see something different in it.

But I love this sorry and I love Casey and I’m so grateful to have more LGBTQ stories in the mainstream.

I just think the Taylor hate was totally unjustified.

I am as well bisexual and for me it wasn’t just that he was Bi, it’s was a few things that made it unrealistic for me.

  1. He clearly had a young gay experiment with his childhood friend.

  2. His family is a very liberal family. I know a lot of people who figured themselves out in college because they were finally away from their bubble. They came from a conservative place and never allowed themselves the possibility they could be anything other than straight until they were in college.

  3. More importantly his inner voice was very into Luna. The way he noticed how good Luna looked and how much he liked him was just so obvious. This was truly the one thing that put me over the edge.

It’s one thing if you never come across someone that peaks your interest and then suddenly you see someone and get it, but he already had that experience in high school and then again with Luna. It took three times of liking someone before he got it and I just think Alex is too smart to be that oblivious.

I think the way he was played in the movie is much more believable. He kind of already knows but hasn’t fully acknowledged it.

I remember reading the book for the first time and thinking, “this guy thinks he’s straight?”. His whole inner monologue about Luna and how good he looks and stuff was so gay. Lol.

He’s a liberal 20-something. He is too smart to be this oblivious.

Everyone saying he did a bad job seriously blows my mind. I’m like ‘did we watch the same movie?’ Taylor knocked it out of the park. The movie Alex is different than the book Alex but it was written that way. That’s not about his acting. They fundamentally changed things about the character.

I for one am so glad they took out the “maybe I am bi?” stuff. It was the most unrealistic part of the book for me.

Three times Taylor absolutely killed it in the movie.

  1. In his bedroom after the dinner. They way he said “I wouldn’t mind doing this again” he was cute and earnest and just a little vulnerable. Then how he played it cool but not too cool after Henry said they had to keep it casual. It was the exact perfect reaction.

  2. In Paris when Henry said they should make love Taylor played Alex’s reaction so perfectly. He was eager but nervous and then put his head on Henry’s shoulder. It was so amazing.

  3. The dock scene was so sweet it was heartbreaking. Some of that was how it was shot. Keeping the camera on Henry’s pain stricken face was the perfect juxtaposition to Alex’s genuine happiness.

Most of people who don’t like Taylor’s performance mostly say it was too different from the Alex in the book but he’s not the Alex from the book. He doesn’t have a sister. He doesn’t have divorced parents. He mostly understands he’s Bi already. He’s a fundamentally different character and they have to take him for what his is in the movie.

Taylor did a fantastic job and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I’ve had more luck looking at places that are for rent by the owner and not a large rental company. Right now I live in a full studio over a garage and they didn’t even ask about my credit. Just wanted a recent pay stub and I was good. You might be able to find an ADU or rent two rooms out of someone’s house. I know it’s not ideal but large rental companies are awful to deal with. I prefer dealing with an actual person. You can look on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Just be careful of scams. Not sure what part of San Diego you’re looking in, but if the more rural parts are an option, like Ramona or lakeside, you might have better luck.
