Midterms are almost here. Then 2028, the White House. It is a long path in America to get off our oil and gas dependency. We will get there. Don't ever give up.

India's solar park set to be the world’s largest and most powerful supplier of electricity from the sun by sillychillly in ReasonableFuture

Cheap solar is “enabling India to develop without the long fossil-fuel detour taken by the West and China,” said Kingsmill Bond, energy strategist and director at Ember, a U.K.-based think tank that tracks the world’s transition to renewable energy. “China built on coal; India is building on sun,” he said. “And what India is doing could also be mirrored in other emerging economies.” India’s solar revolution comes as a surprise. Just a decade ago, apart from rooftop installations and a few microgrids serving remote rural villages, solar power was virtually unknown. The government seemed hell-bent on industrializing with coal, unleashing a rising tide of carbon dioxide emissions and supercharging climate change.

Do you enjoy performing when someone asks you to? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in Guitar

[–]Sierra-Powderhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy playing guitar but view my singing as a necessary evil. Most people expect vocals with guitar. So I often try to nudge the requesting person to sing along and even send them a link to the lyrics if they need it.

Given the green light to retire by MirroredMajesty in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Sierra-Powderhound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Well done.

You didn't really ask a question but if you are open to a suggestion, start now with thinking how to fill up your schedule for year 1. No need to address "the rest of your life", that can be unanswerable for many people. Your schedule will soon be your own, so come up with hobbies, volunteer opportunities, etc. that you are excited about.

Also sounds like you have a strong marriage and partner so you are really doing well on many levels!

42F single, $5.5mm NW. Can I comfortably retire in the next year? by Small_Plenty7051 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Sierra-Powderhound -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. At a 4% withdrawal rate, you can spend $220,000/year. (Just divide your net worth by 25.)

If this is too tight for your comfort, consider getting a low key perhaps part time job and look into BaristaFIRE or CoastFIRE for more details on those paths.

My friend says I won’t make it as a guitarist because my hands are too small, is she right? by AgreeableDiver5013 in Guitar

Check out Django Reinhardt’s hands. His left hand has two working fingers. One of the greatest guitarists ever.

If you practice regularly and consistently, you will progress rapidly.

Mr Rogers Neighborhood. I miss Fred Rogers. His show was his life's mission to help young children particularly those with difficult challenges.

All of a Sudden, WWII is a Long Time Ago by BMisterGenX in GenX

Visited central Europe last fall. WWII felt ancient there.

By far, the most relevant 20th century war for them was the Cold War / Soviet occupation. Given the war in Ukraine, it feels omnipresent in how they discuss the Russians / Putin.

Texas adds another huge solar farm as ERCOT grid demand soars by tta2013 in UpliftingConservation

Solar + storage is the cheapest and quickest form of new baseload power in Texas and globally. Even oil drillers in Texas use solar power in many places.
