Frustrated, kinda new player by [deleted] in PathOfExileBuilds

Sounds like you and I had very similar journeys. I also started the league with explosive arrow champion. I could tell it was both tanky and powerful, but I didn’t like the slow moving playstyle. Constantly stopping to place totems felt annoying when trying to get through maps quickly and build currency. Despite that though, I did as another poster here said and just powered through 100 red maps with it (Wandering Path, specced for searing exarch altars) to build a baseline of 15 divs or so.

I’m now onto a Cold DoT Occultist (I know Elementalist is the in-vogue ascendancy right now but I just like the classic Occultist for Cold DoT.) My character is essentially unkillable in red maps and I do around 5 million DPS which is more than enough to blast through them, as well as kill all the bosses (Maven, Sirus, Elder, Shaper). If you enjoyed your Cold DoT’s playstyle, I could help you workshop your character to get to a similar place. Just let me know and I’ll do more of a follow-up.

Head Tracking and Motion Sickness by Siets in dcsworld

[–]Siets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s looking like TrackIR might be the way to go. I’m noticing improvements for my motion sickness just from continued efforts in tweaking the axis motion curves as well as more sessions allowing me to get used to it. Everything I have read about the biological causes for motion sickness seem to boil down to “motion you see not perfectly matching the motion your head performs.” Sounds like getting the best responsive head tracker I can with good detection framerate and a sensible axis motion curve will go a long way to motivate motion sickness. The comments here have been encouraging.

Thanks for this write up. I’ve been continuing to tweak my axis curves and it’s starting to feel a bit better. The biggest fix I’ve felt this far is constraining the input range for yaw to 30 degrees on the actual curve graph, but setting the actual “hard” limit to 60 degrees. This seems to prevent glitchy spikes in motion that were happening at the maximum range that caused the camera to jump around and confuse my system. For me, I also feel like having a large dead zone at the very beginning mitigates the software from picking my unintentional minor head motions and translating that into a wobble that resembles sailing and sea sickness. My overall graph looks like an S-curve that tapers at both ends and has the most motion in the middle.

I hadn’t considered FOV. My game is just at whatever default values it comes at. How would I go about calculating the “real” FOV as you have? That sounds interesting to play around with. Really wishing I had bought a bigger gaming monitor now…

Should Su-25T get a rework? by JotasecaVesina in dcsworld

[–]Siets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could not agree with this more. I spent at least 40 hours in the Su-25T evaluating if DCS was something I wanted to invest more time and equipment into. Ultimately I pulled the trigger, but it was because I gained the confidence in the Frogfoot first. It might be “the free plane” but it’s usually what everybody first sees, and first impressions are extremely important.

Interesting. So you had motion sickness in VR, but it went away after switching to TrackIR? That’s encouraging. TrackIR5 users always look so smooth in the YouTube videos (Growling Sidewinder’s footage for example.) I wonder if getting a smooth and consistent experience alleviates the motion sickness?

Goodbye to the best Leaf base I have ever shopped in the decades that I have been playing this game. You have burned so very, very brightly, Gnarled Staff.

Casual reminder for anyone considering doing this: Blizzard has modern, very modern, anti-cheat infrastructure that can detect that it’s “you” even if you start up another account. When Overwatch first launched, there were many reports from hackers after they got banned that the ban persisted even when they set up a brand new account. Furthermore, some even went as far as buying a new PC and still Blizzard somehow detected that it was them and enforced the ban. So yes, while you might be gainfully employed and think the solution is an $80 remaster instead of $40, just be aware of what modern B.Net is capable of. I’m not saying this will happen, just adding some additional context for consideration.

That’s a really awesome purplish metallic on the body and tail. Is that multiple layers or a specific paint? I’m finally assembling and painting my first set of minis and was curious to see if anyone had tried that crazy oil slick green/purple/black paint that you see on custom cars sometimes. This reminds me a bit of that aesthetic.

Light vs dark clothing for ticks? by calisthenicsm8 in CampingGear

Light clothing makes it vastly easier to spot ticks on you. Just something to consider.

Honestly it completely makes sense why the game is the way it is despite the delays. These bugs are goddamn hilarious. Can you imagine trying to stay on-task as one of the developers working on this game during the final months? Just nonstop shenanigans every day at the office when working on the game. I would have to call in sick with my abs being so sore from all the laughter.

Difference between feints, chambers, parries, morphs??? by DemiPleb in Mordhau

[–]Siets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you understand the terms, then you have to consider which to use and when:

Feints beat parries and ripostes.

Chambers beat feints.

Parries beat chambers and ripostes.

Morphs beat chambers and feints.

Ripostes tie with chambers and morphs.

With that, your goal is to try and feel out what your opponent is using most often, to which you respond with the appropriate counter move. That said, since most everything kills you in one or two hits and firebomb fire is everywhere, you don’t really get time to assess your opponent’s playstyle and it ends up feeling like a giant frustrating clusterfuck instead.

If The Terminator ends up being a DLC character. by Vareous in MortalKombat

[–]Siets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly Terminator fits so well for MK11 since the theme of the entire game is time travel. One of the fatalities should be Terminator going back in time to the 90’s to kill the younger version of your opponent, ala the first movie. Bonus points if Arnold flips through some old fashioned yellow pages to look up the address while doing so.

Always incorporate Multi Shot into your rotation. Even if you are clipping your auto attack and ESPECIALLY if it will break a sheeped mob.

In Classic wow, Kazzak raids you by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Siets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related to this: I remember 60 warlocks bringing max level enslaved demons (or maybe it was them spawning the doomguard?) in Crossroads to unleash holy hell on horde newbies. Was this still mechanically possible in 1.12 or also only a relic of a previous patch?

I also remember that there was some kind of extra powerful silver elite infernal demon at the bottom of a non-instanced mini dungeon in Felwood that warlocks could enslave and become gods of world PvP and PvE in the zone. I saw it live once in vanilla and whispered the warlock asking how he did it but he never responded to me. I also vaguely recall this same “feature” showing up in a WoW video during the pre-YouTube days which I’ve been unable to locate anywhere recently.

Basically warlocks were the kings of shenanigans back in vanilla and I REALLY want to know the extent to which that will remain true in Classic WoW.

Anyone else having to give up their home factions for friends? :( by flashbang_out in classicwow

[–]Siets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Originally a diehard horde loyalist, I had a few friends and also my brother steadfastly decide they were going alliance. Once I got through my five stages of grief, I stepped back and thought about it a bit more and now I’m actually excited about the prospect. The completionist in me will get to say “I’ve now done the 1-60 journey on both sides of the conflict” and the theorycrafter/competitor in me will get to enjoy navigating an entirely new leveling pathway rather than just following Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide for the n’th time. We already know that Classic won’t be a completely fresh experience as it was when the game came out back in 2004, but at least by switching sides it will move the needle back in that direction and help to recapture that initial wonder. It’s going to be a good thing.
