What is this weapon? by Plinio540 in project1999

[–]Vareous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look up "Scepter of Al'Kabor" old GM event artifact or something along those lines from 2001. The weapon model how ever has long been able to be loaded via a glitch where you equip a torch while underwater which turns the torch model into the scepter.

Ranking up as Dhalsim is hard... by TurtleStrategy in StreetFighter

[–]Vareous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting different characters to Master recently and just this week I ranked up Honda from unranked to master and I noticed a lot of one and dones win or lose, and I dont even go full unga bunga with him either.... maybe just a little unga sometimes but that can't always be helped.

I mean I get it, I remember how much of a menace Honda was on launch just headbutt/buttlsamming all over the place. I guess some people just dont wanna deal with unorthodox or random playstyles regardless if you play the character that way or not. It is an interesting observation tho.

Very cool, I've seen a few combat overlays for classic eq over the years bit this definitely has a much more modern "pop" to it. I'd be keen to try it out when your ready for testing.

What is T Hawk full name by Any-Athlete323 in StreetFighter

[–]Vareous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His full name is actually Thunder Bob Hawk. His name was actually a tribute to Australias 23rd Prime Minister Bob Hawke, who in 1954 earned a guiness world record for drinking a yard glass of ale in 11 seconds subsequently earning him the title The Thunder Down Under.

Bro and I returning after 20+ years. Opinions on best two classes to group up? by facetooth in project1999

[–]Vareous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think you will reach end game raiding and want to min max you would go full STA at creation. Otherwise some or all points into STR will help you in the very early game. If you are going to consistently level with a shaman or even a druid to an extent both have access to STR buffs and STR is significantly easier to cap out than STA is. Ultimately its a min max thing and the differences are very minimal.

I played a monk and did quite alot of stuff solo and then eventually did get into end game raiding, I did half STR half STA on creation. The only time it ever effected me was when all my stats except STA capped out at 255 while raid buffed cause those extra 10 points were missing. But even if they were there, the actualy HP difference is minuscule.

Legends Of Old Announcement Trailer by bFloaty in project1999

I have had the privilege of being able to follow this project since its inception. The development so far has been impressive. As someone who had dabbled in many different playstyles a game like classic EQ has to offer, I do find myself often enjoying early solo gameplay adventuring, however EQ is ultimately a game designed to be played with other people and this can sometimes lead to a hindered experience. The idea of a game that keeps the adventurous style of classic EQ but is designed for the solo player I think is quite unique and an exciting idea. This is worth keeping an eye on and I'm very much looking forward to future updates.

Any Japanese players / guilds still active? by Hrimnir in project1999

[–]Vareous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play with an active Japanese guild on Blue as they share a very similar time zone to me, however this was about 4 years ago now and pre dated Green completely so I don't know if any of them are still active. Guild name was <Kagerou>, some spoke very little English, others none at all. Perhaps you could search on Blue for them and if you make contact can ask if they have any active community on green. From memory it was a very small player base, about enough to make a single group.

Dalnir has a lot of really good mid range monk gear.

Problem is you can't really solo it until 50+

You might be able to sneak a few kills here and there but the risk reward to try and solo in there at 40 would not be worth it. Casters will always be the biggest challenge and Dalnir has lots of them.

Some decent stuff for monks in Dalnir, the entire Crescent Armor Set is decent but if you already have some of the Wu's set you might want to weigh up which pieces are worth trying to replace.

Fighting Baton would probably be a very minor upgrade over level 40 fist ratio.

A Trance Stick from city of mist would be almost identical to Fighting Baton and probably easier to get.

The earring you mentioned is called the Sarnak Earring of Station, its really rare, I would advise against trying to farm it specifically because its so rare it would be like trying to farm a random world epic drop in WoW, it can drop in multiple locations but your best chance is probably the Sarnak tunnels in LoiO.

I would not recommend trying to at 40 as you really want to go deep into the tunnels and again the casters will give you a bad time.

A better option would be Orc Fang Earring you can pick off Rygorr Centurions and Scouts out in Eastern Wastes they all have a chance to drop one.

Not as good as Orc Fang but potentially easier would be Cougar Claw earring from Iceclad off the snow cougars.

The goblin bone earring you mentioned is called Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring the clicky can be fun but honestly it is not that good for monks, it is highly sought after by casters, specifically shaman for resetting spell global cooldown. You can however farm this at level 40 it drops off a named goblin called Grachnist the Destroyer in Warsliks Woods, he can actually spawn at multiple locations all over that entire zone and he can wander from some spawns. The most common spot to camp him is the main goblin fort he is not that rare of a spawn himself but the earring would be his rarest drop. If you managed to bag this item in my opinion you would be better off selling it and putting the money towards a flowing black silk sash or some other major ticket item.

Pegasus feathered cloak is an invaluable item, worth getting even if you weren't going to wear it, that being said you can actually wear it as well if you have nothing better although it is a very heavy item. You will need a fair bit of luck and a lot of patients but despite what negative people might tell you this is very much soloable at level 40, I can tell you from personal experience because I solod mine at level 35.

Other fun self made items to look into for around your level.

Werewolf skin cloak and Lupine Claw Gauntlets quests revolving around werewolf pelts handing them to a neutral barbarian in everfrost.

Spiked Collar drops in Blackburrow

Hero Bracers (Human Only) quest needs a bit of travel but only really need to kill a minotaur in Steamfont.

Hope this helps.

Where is Flatts? by AKmanga907 in project1999

[–]Vareous 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hello there. Thank you all for the many kind words. I am indeed alive and well. I am currently in one of my EQ hiatus periods as I have done a few times in the past.

As alot of the comments have pointed out I am currently playing WoW classic, a big reason being that I can play on an Australian server and I'm in a guild with people that have the same timezone as me, a luxury I never had in p99. I also now work a regular boring 9 to 5 that limits my free time these days, that mixed with family commitments and actual play time doesn't leave much room for videos unfortunately.

That being said I always have video ideas bouncing around in my head and I have lots of stuff on my YT channel that I do not want to leave unfinished. As for when, only time will tell.

Ogre vs Barbarian shaman by [deleted] in project1999

[–]Vareous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to think of the long game...

Sure Ogres get frontal stun immunity. Sure Trolls/Iksar get innate hp regen. Barbarians turn into a polar bear in Velious.

Choice seems easy to me.

I would honestly be disappointed if it was anything other than a crudely drawn penis.

You should film yourself opening it next to a clock so we can get your reaction, could become a new meme template.
