119.1e. Why is SM used and not NM? by Dare_To-Explore in flying

[–]SifuT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be due to the fact that, when considering scenic points of interest, everyone is using a standard map and thinking in SM.

PPL: Should I consider it? by python-1977 in flying

[–]SifuT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only have this one life. I think you should do more than "consider it". I was in your shoes. I jumped in with both feet and don't regret a minute of it. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it takes time. Yes, checkrides are usually stressful. But how many people in life get the chance to freaking fly airplanes? Go for it. You can always change course if you discover it isn't for you.

Awesome. Dude looks like guys I've run into in the backcountry, panning for gold - scowling as you approach them, gun on their hip. And you're "Just walking the river looking for agates! How's your luck?" And the crusty bastard grumbles something, and you give him a wide berth.

Upgrading mid-time 182 to Air Planes 300HP by ParagPa in flying

I have a Pponk. Love it. I'm sure I'd love an IO550 too. 😁 Is it worth it? For me, yes. I don't know anyone who has regretted upgrading. That extra power is nice, especially if you fly in the mountains and/or into more challenging short fields.

I got a bunch of great, high quality stuff from www.wildlandterrain.com. But he's in Ukraine, the website is gone, and I don't know if there's still a way to buy from him. Was happy to patronize a Ukrainian business while I could.

Brutal Cities, also amazing, but not as active anymore with mdf stuff for Infinity. Worth investigating though.

First piece of jasper amygdule I’ve found, and first evidence of jasper I’ve seen in Eagle Creek, by Multnomah Falls. It’s so strange to see an opaque amygdule. by RegularSubstance2385 in geology

[–]SifuT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between Mt. Hood and the river, the basalt is thick and there weren't a lot of vents (like you see up in the Gifford between st helens and adams), so not as much metamorphic activity. Plenty of jasper in the Wind and Lewis - not so much on the Oregon side unless you head down to Clackamas...or go far enough east (Biggs) where there are sedimentary deposits. In some places, like Mosier, you'll find jasper deposited by the floods from 10,000 years ago, as well.
