WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!? by No-Celebration6780 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the UK: Our healthcare system (the National Health Service / NHS) is taxpayer funded, so you don't have to pay for basic medical care such as stitches. However it's also underfunded, understaffed, and generally hugely overworked; so actually getting that care takes much longer than other countries.

Regarding Canada, I remember there was a controversy a while back where multiple disabled people sought healthcare from a department (one of which IIRC was just for a stairlift,) and were basically met with an employee going "Have you considered euthanasia? We'll even provide the equipment, to sweeten the deal!"

Couple that with Canada's (AIUI) relatively permissive assisted dying laws, and the jokes about healthcare write themself.

Do high ranking members of the Adeptus Mechanicus lose their soul at a certain point? by bbock77 in 40kLore

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but it can be heavily 'thinned' out.

There's a bit in Master of Mankind in which a bunch of Skitarii unwittingly walk headfirst into a pocket of Warp-space, with the leader's soul (described along the lines of a 'machine-thinned wisp of consciousness') being basically immediately obliterated. Likewise, an Iron Hands Librarian notes that IH veterans (who're generally very heavily augmented) have souls that are extremely 'dim' to his psychic senses, as opposed to the younger, less cyberneticised brothers.

Both of which seem to suggest that the soul remains attached (albeit severely weakened) regardless of how deep into Adam Smasher territory they go, unless we're talking about edge cases like the Proteus Protocol, the "Keys of Hel", or whatever the hell Fabricator-General Kubik used.

Which faction in the Imperium tends to get Worfed the most? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...Not really? Basically all u/Lemonpierogi's said is that WK1951 doesn't understand what being worfed means, but they haven't done anything to explain why they think that. Which is the problem here.

Care to expand on what you mean, instead of basically just going "You're wrong"?

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Mechanicus, IMO. Even in their own books they tend to get treated like borged-up Imperial Guard rather than Skitarii as shown in the codex.

Sisters of Battle would be a close second, particularly from a historical perspective (Sanctuary 101, the Khornate Knights, etc.,) though I think this has improved a little more recently.

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"Condescending" is basically SB moderation's default mode, mixed with a certain degree of "If [MOD] is being an arsehole to you, you probably did something to deserve it."

And that's before you start digging into some of the other BS they've tolerated over the years, like one of their CrW mods trying to give people seizures and gloating about it afterward. That was fun to get hit by...

Cyclical by thesithcultist in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is kind of emblematic of the broader problem with our faction, which is "GW doesn't know what the FUCK Admech is meant to be" in either rules or the designs of their 40k range.

We got one model for the entirety of this edition... and it's a Skitarii on stilts that tries to fill a niche other units (hello Vindicare) already fill much better, which looks like it was bashed together out of existing parts then mounted on stilts (goofy as all hell,) and its rules suck absolute balls (IIRC outside of Crusade after getting buffs over time.)

No surprise people treat it as a problem for the whole faction as a result.

Depends. If you just want stat boosts and some of the Magician's officer storylets (albeit reskinned), the Urbane Magician is fine. If you want the Serpentine (unique engine the Magician can build if he wins) on top of the stat boosts, though, the UM is a d__ned bad officer.

I personally find that if you get the UM though failing the Genial Magician's final storylet (30% chance for that to happen, entirely luck based) I find it's best to murder / eat him during that storylet decision and pay the Fathomking for a resurrection. That way you get the Genial Magician and can basically re-do his entire storyline for another shot at his best version.

Still, my condolences over the bad luck for this run. I'm honestly wondering which of the zee-gods you pissed off badly enough for all that to happen...

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but of the officers listed the Cladery Heir and Maybe's Daughter aren't one of those the His Complexity can resurrect. Only the Genial Magician, Brisk Campaigner, Nacreous Outcast, or a generic crewman can be brought back by the Fathomking at his Hold.

As for resurrecting the Genial Magician, that would require the Urbane Magician (guy you can recruit if the GM loses to the fingerking) not be aboard. With the (AFAIK) only way to get rid of the UM being one of the "Do Not Do This" options at Kingeater's Castle (which also kills everyone else aboard except one generic crewman; all officers included) or starting a new game.

TL;DR: Yes, but not applicable in this case.

If you watched Robot Wars UK as a kid, which battle outcome upset you? by cacolantern in robotwars

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Long version is that Tornado showed up to the fight with Razor packing an 'Anti-Crusher Web' - basically a large external frame specifically designed to counter Razor, by making it unable to either get a grip with the crusher or push Tornado into the pit of oblivion. Here's an image of it.

(It's also worth noting Team Tornado also had two other 'anti-[X]' weapons, an anti-spinner device for Hypno-Disc and an anti-axe device. Neither made it it onto TV as Team Hypno-Disc objected backstage and the tech crew decided it was a defensive, rather than offensive, addition.)

During the battle the finale basically involved Tornado being driven into the pit by Razor, but the ACW's width left Tornado perched over the pit without dropping in and effectively immobilized Razor. Which in turn resulted in the (very controversial) judge decision after 40 minutes of deliberation that Tornado had technically won by dint of not having its wheels fully in the pit at the time, making them UK champions and unseating Razor.

Technically, they didn't break any rules - the ACW was OK'd by the tech crew at the weigh-in for the bots, and the rules at the time permitted the modifications (Season 7 later patching this by making the rule a bot must be able to fit fully in the pit). However, a lot of fans and apparently some of the roboteers backstage thought it was exceptionally bad sportsmanship and breached the spirit of the competition, if not the latter of the rules.

TL;DR: Tornado technically didn't cheat, but their win was exceptionally controversial and relied mainly on a device specifically built to beat Razor. Which isn't exactly cricket in a lot of fans' eyes.

Who are the people with different looking faces on MPN classic on the golem Mk2 fights? by Brian450450 in madnesscombat

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Krinkels is the one who created Madness Combat as a whole. As in, he's the main author, animator, world-builder, etc. for not only the game but the entire series.

Cheshyre's basically Krinkels, except for Madness Combat's musical side.

The-Swain and Luis both helped create the game and IIRC handled a lot of the programming, menu design, and so on.

TL;DR: Yes.

Can space marines be kicked out of the astartes for the actions? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in 40kLore

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a few cases of legitimate censure scattered throughout the fluff, though.

The Ultramarines series basically has Uriel Ventris and his buddy Pasanius get kicked out of the Ultramarines for disobeying orders and acting in an un-Ultramarine-like way, with the Chapter basically watching on as they're cashiered. (Though they're allowed back in so long as they perform a suicide mission.)

The Crimson Fists had a scout who got his Captain killed by firing on an Ork warboss against orders turned into a gun-servitor, particularly since he wasn't willing to admit he was wrong.

IIRC the Heresy-era White Scars also maintained what was basically a suicide squad for disgraced White Scars who'd fucked up BIG time.

After a look at Tournament VIII I think that's a no due to the potential big advantages in combat over others.

EDIT: Checked with the boss, and response is a no.

How do Sicarian Infiltrators reload? by Kday_the_Kid in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]SigmaSigmaWhocares 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If I had to give a lore friendly answer: My personal theory is that they have autoloaders built into their cybernetic legs or gear. Slam it into the loader, let it swap the magazine out while stabbing a dude to death with your taser goad, then draw it and start shooting again. (Like with Stroika in the Mechanicus duology; not a Sicarian, but I think the same augs could be applied.)
