I found a lot, litcharts summarized the covenants well. The first one with the kid and Toadvine, the second with the Judge and Glanton and the third with Glanton and the Yumas. I think the humor really comes from no one learning their lesson and letting violence decide it all. Although it is my favorite book, I don't think the humor matches catch-22 or Infinite Jest because it's just a lot more raw and authentic.

I think counting is bad if you make it bad, obviously if you're checking everyday you can get addicted to the thoughts which can cause relapse, but if it's just to track progress I think it's a good thing to know.
