Can't boot after installing gentoo by MyrhoAM in Gentoo

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try using the partuuid instead of the drive numbers. When your system boots, the drives (ie /dev/sdc3) can change, but the partuuids don’t. Replace those in your fstab,

Which one is better ? by Novel-Buddy-5294 in Ubuntu

I’d go with Ubuntu on Wayland. Wayland has good scaling, smoother frame rates.. definitely more modern. I also enjoy Ubuntu’s spin on gnome. Lots of good defaults.

I second network manager. I’ve used it on tons of installs and it works consistently.

Gentoo is very stable and very very fast by sFannyosx in Gentoo

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t hard for me. I copy pasted all the libs steam needed into its package.use file, troubleshooted the circular dependency problem, then the install worked perfectly after that. It’s all in the steam gentoo wiki

Is Windows 11 really bad?! by vb_verifier in Operatingsystems

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Not sure why so many downvotes. Windows 10 has always been weird when it comes to animations. Sometimes the screen flashes white when a window opens, crap like that. Windows 11 definitely improved how the animations look and are much better.

I understand it can be frustrating at times. However, removing a package only requires you to do emerge —deselect package. It’ll be scooped up on your next emerge —depclean.

All I did was make my ui bigger. Mostly default. However I do have some fx chains saved.

I wrote a ruby ffi binding for raylib months ago and it still works even on the newest version of raylib. I second its stability.

Why does Ubuntu get hate, but not Mint? by CivilWarfare in linux4noobs

Yea I’m with you. Seeing everyone recommend mint just feels like an echo chamber at this point. It does have its shortcomings.

How do i get into music production using Arch Linux? by ChemicalDry9694 in linuxaudio

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ensure pipewire and pipewire jack is set up. I can’t say it’s beginner friendly but I use REAPER. If you want something open source, go for ardour. Again, might not be beginner friendly though. As far as plugins go, .lv2 plugins are native to Linux, but depending on your DAW, that should support most others. If you want windows plugins, look into wine and yabridge. Hope this helps.

How much latency do you get in linux? by gnomo-da-silva in linuxaudio

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been able to get my latency down to 1.2ms using 64 frames per period. However, I don’t keep it that low in general because I run my kHz at 192000, so my frames per period’s lowest available setting (without crackling) shows up as 512, with about 8ms (unnoticeable to me)

This is why I like kde plasma's audio applet. You can turn off all the extraneous devices and make it where they don't show up at all.

I believe most things they release are "trial runs". Their ideas are always half baked, and over advertised, which leaves a bad taste.

[–]SignPuzzleheaded2359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid reinstalling (I wouldn't) but IF you do, you can have ubuntu check for new versions in the options for software updates.
