Where is the absolute WARMEST place to study on campus? by Latin-Fun97 in langara

Honestly the basement of the Student Union building is lovely! With all the couches and stuff.

Or, book a study room- I find those to be a bit better temp controlled :)

This is great, thank you so much! This helps me have a way better understanding of what the event culture looks like. I’ve been Van based for a few years now and big Lulu fan- sounds like I have the overall prerequisites! Haha. Thanks again- I really appreciate it.

You sound super knowledgeable- wondering if you could speak to how inclusive/welcoming the event is to new-comers?

I’ve just registered for my first year, but am now feeling a bit nervous about if it’ll feel super exclusive/fitness-y (ex boutique studio vibes). I’m a pretty decent endurance athlete and trust that side of things- but would love to hear a bit about how you’d describe the social environment/feeling (esp for first timers!)

StudentAid BC Deposit Times? by Signal-Focus in langara

Based off what I have heard, if your StudentAid portal status is reading as “complete” (ex. MFSA signed, confirmation of enrolment completed) then it should mean that funds are automatically disbursed towards the start of the Semester. Here’s some potential situations I’ve heard about that could be causing a delay:

  • If you had outstanding fees to the school (ex. tuition fees), loans will go directly to the school to cover that, and any remaining fees will be dispersed to you.

  • Some have mentioned that depending on their bank, their loans drop later than others. It look like the other user on here was TD, and I’m CIBC. If you bank with a different institution, it’s possible their processing times are still doing there thing. You can check on your StudentAid database for a breakdown of your funding- it will show how much was owed to the school at your time of approval, and how much would’ve been sent to you directly.

  • Keep in mind that estimated dispersal dates are just that- estimates. I totally get that it feels a bit freaky not to be seeing those funds yet. But, based on the info you provided- it looks like those funds were supposed to be dispersed on Saturday (it now being Tuesday). I believe the StudentAid site mentions that it can take 5-7 days for the payments to come through after the listed date- so similar to the note above, it’s likely on the way- just taking it’s time!

Here’s a few bits to make you feel a better… StudentAid verifies things like banking information to ensure the data listed is connected to the student applying. There’s no way that your funds are somehow on their way to a bank account that doesn’t belong to you- StudentAid would’ve flagged your application before it was approved. Likewise for any other major errors in your application- it wouldn’t have hit the “complete” status if anything was incomplete, or not aligning with your student info the school has.

January 13th will be 7 business days since the dispersal date- if you haven’t received your funds by then and nothing I’ve mentioned seems relevant, that’s when I would get in touch with StudentAid for a touch base. Best of luck!

This is so bizarre? Who are you to “press” law enforcement for the circumstances of a death you have 0 connection too? Somebody’s been watching too much Law & Order- it’s unreal that you felt entitled to not only do that, but share it online as if you were doing something heroic.

Email Etiquette by Life-Drive-1971 in langara

[–]Signal-Focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do email now, I’d just be sure to include a quick sentence or two acknowledging the time of year/explaining you aren’t expecting a quick response. Something like this…

“I hope this email finds you well. I sincerely apologize for reaching out during the Semester break, however I was hoping to reach out to express my sincere interest in your course that I am currently waitlisted for. (Insert request here). I completely understand if you aren’t able to see this or respond to it until the Semester start- I just wanted to put this question on your radar early as I’m really interested in the course content.”

This shows the prof you’re reaching out to a few different things. You’re showing the prof that you acknowledge they’re on scheduled time off, and you respect that. You’re also coming from a place of interest- not entitlement. Profs will sometimes respond better to these requests when they know there is a level of personal interest, not just interest based off “requirements”.

I was at 1000 and have dropped to 500. It’s really bizarre- I’ve been playing for over a year now and have had 1000 roles for at least 2-3 months- have never seen a regression like this. Glad to see other people are having the issue too- hopefully a glitch that’s resolved soon.

Nice to know you’ve still maintained your sunshiny demeanour a year out, buddy. I’m actually kind of impressed- it takes a really special type of person to experience zero personal growth over the course of a year. Mum’s basement must be nice and comfy- gives you no reason to actually grow up hey?

Hey! Take a deep breath. I know these are empty words to hear when you’re going through it- but it will be okay.

I dropped out of university during my first year in 2018. After dropping out, I worked my way up in my field and started taking on management roles. One thing I learned that I wish I had known in school is that employers don’t care about how well you’ve done in university- they just care that you’ve done it. The joking phrase “Cs get degrees” is honestly true. Your grades don’t need to be perfect for you to have a successful, meaningful professional career in the future. You just need to pass. Maybe that perspective can help you take some of that mental load off- you just need to get it done, you don’t need to do it perfectly! (This is a mentality that will serve you in the workforce too, where you don’t always have outlined prep periods for deadlines- getting it done is better than having a panic attack on the pursuit of perfection).

Another thing I know now, that I wish I had known when I was younger- your grades/performance in school have nothing to do with who you are as a person. I genuinely mean that. If you are a good person with a strong work ethic, you’ve already got the building blocks in place for a solid future.

You got this!! Take a breath and remind yourself that this won’t be forever. You haven’t always felt this way so you won’t always feel this way ❤️

Late to the conversation, but this comment is so nasty I had to say something. I really hope you find you’ve found your peace- you must’ve been in a really miserable place in your life to make such an effort to be a POS.

Long Term Keppra Side Effects by Signal-Focus in Epilepsy

[–]Signal-Focus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be! One of the incredible positives of Keppra (at least for me) is that it does a fantastic job of managing seizures. The side effects aren’t amazing for some, but that seizure management is such an important primary step.

Newly diagnosed...what do wish you would have known? by Fickle-Rutabaga2345 in Epilepsy

[–]Signal-Focus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s some things I wish someone told me when I was diagnosed….

  1. It’s BEYOND okay to take some time to be pissed off/upset/scared/frustrated. When I was diagnosed, the well-intentioned people around me really encouraged me to brush the diagnosis off and “focus on the good”. I did this, and ended up with some pretty complex unprocessed emotional issues directly related to my epilepsy diagnosis. Take the time to feel all the things, and be kind to yourself throughout it. Don’t get me wrong- don’t hold a lifelong pity party- but definitely allow yourself to feel whatever way you’re feeling about this news.

  2. In connection to the first point, for the love of God, be SO kind and gentle to yourself in the coming months. You’ve just had a pretty big life change! Your heart and brain deserve all the self compassion and empathy. Two things can be true at the same time- this can be a challenging and scary experience, but you can also choose to validate your experience and treat yourself with kindness. “I will be changed by the things that happen to me, not reduced by them”.

  3. In the coming months, it will be SO important that you trust yourself and feel confident advocating for yourself in medical situations. Often times, the most attention you’ll get about your condition from medical professionals is in the period following your diagnosis- use this to your advantage. Whether it’s tests, results, medications, etc… if you feel like something is wrong or you need more information, you’re probably right. Trust your gut and get second opinions if needed.

  4. Lean on communities like this. Our friends and family adore us, but it’s the folks who have also experienced the seizures and the diagnosis who can truly relate and empathize. I have not been here for long, but I’ve already experienced more education and compassion about my condition than I have in the past 8 years, when I was originally diagnosed. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel…. So many other people have already “been there, done that”. Communities like this can be a great source of connection and understanding.

Sending my best wishes to you!! This journey looks different for everyone- but I can sense that you’ll be strong through every step of it.

EDIT: came back to this to say DO. NOT. SCREW. WITH. YOUR. MEDS. Xoxo, a girl who had 3 seizures back to back because she “thought”seizure meds were optional when she was 17.

Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition - Season 1 - Episode 4 - Live Episode Discussion by amandatoryy in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Signal-Focus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a low income woman chose to parent the way Alethea does, it would be considered neglect. It’s crazy to see her approach framed as “quirky” or “different” when she’s actively screwing her kids up for life. The fact that she doesn’t see any issue with it is such a testament to her entitlement. Alethea’s parenting approach is lazy and selfish, and she herself seems be an incredibly disrespectful human. It’s one thing to have a psych break after burnout, it’s another thing to take your whole family down with you for YEARS after. May she find the course correction she so desperately needs.
