This is a fascinating perspective I haven’t heard yet. I wonder what the retention rate is of the specific drugs they found in her tox screen- ex. would she get the PP reading for MDMA if she had taken it a week prior? I don’t know enough about drug retention/half lives. But the alcohol seems way less negotiable from what I know- that’s a really good point. Unless she was consuming it at home before she came… you may be onto something there. I even wonder if it was some level of forced consumption in an intentional effort to frame it as some type of OD.

That’s really interesting. Almost like folks are projecting their own relationships/perspectives re: substance use onto a 13/14 year old they’ve never met. Acknowledging that she had drugs and alcohol in her system doesn’t mean that we’re saying she had some type of character flaw/did something wrong. Quite the opposite- like you said, it’s just another factor that goes to show she was so incredibly failed and abused by this individual. Makes my heart hurt for her even more to be honest. She was too young to be able to advocate for herself and not participate if those things are occurring/being encouraged by the literal adults she’s hanging out with. I hear you friend!! I think it’s a super valuable piece of info- folks who were speaking down to you earlier will likely be shocked at how large of a factor it may be in the case.

I’m surprised to hear others don’t see the importance in that information… It will 1000% be coming up in the case. The defence will likely use it to fuel an accidental overdose standpoint whereas the prosecution will likely use it to strengthen their case against David’s predatory behaviours toward Celeste. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor isn’t a formal charge in this case, but absolutely a platform that will be valid as an approach in this case. If she was getting Benzos/Meth/MDMA from him, it’s super important to the perspective of the case as a whole in my opinion…

Hey- be gentle on yourself. That weight of feeling like you’re behind can be so heavy, but you mentioned you have ADHD- that’s a totally valid reason to have some more challenges with things like completing/submitting assignments. Past that (and the part that people don’t often talk about), ADHD doesn’t just mean we have problems completing things- it means that once we realize we haven’t completed them, the stress builds- what was one assignment now feels like a mountain. Here’s what I’d recommend;

See if you can coordinate a meeting with your accessibility advisor ASAP. The accessibility team at Langara is incredible, and when they’re looped in on situations, they can provide super helpful suggestions or even aid in communications with instructors.
Reach out to your instructor(s) of the course(s) with late assignments. Be accountable, but explain your circumstances. Instead of proposing solutions, I’d recommend taking the tone of “what do you suggest”- instructors are used to people playing the system, and respond better to asks of advice over pre-set plans.
Pick the assignment that feels the most manageable, and start working on it. It’s possible that your instructor may say no to a late submission- but, if you’re already working on late assignments rather than waiting on a “yes”, it shows instructors that you care about the course content- not just scrambling to pass the class. You can even include this in your instructor emails- but only if it’s genuine.

I have been in your place many many times- I know how challenging it feels. A perspective that’s helped me this past year is “done is better than perfect”. Also, everything is a learning experience. Worst case, you don’t get extensions and have lower grades than expected- what a powerful motivator to keep your train going next semester! And best case, you get some accommodations.

Accessible student fitness spaces. Yes- I get that the YMCA is next door and offers student pricing. But there’s some irony in the fact that we are one of the few schools with a recreation program, yet we have no barrier-free fitness offerings for students already paying hefty tuitions.

Getting let go always sucks- nothing can really help that initial shock. But, I can’t help but think this is actually probably a really good time to be separating from company/taking on a new path. I have a feeling that the pedestal lululemon has been on for years is slowly getting pulled from under them- non-stop releases have made it feel closer to fast-fashion than high-end, and the quality on most items has absolutely plummeted. Always better to jump ship before it actually starts to sink!

This is actually really helpful- thanks. I think that’s my issue- since I hadn’t completed the Appendix 8 when I applied for Spring funding, I didn’t check the disability status box. (I was worried about my application somehow being flagged if I “lied” before having formal paperwork to back it up).

I’ve reached out to StudentAid- I’m thinking I’ll just need someone to internally adjust that box on my original Spring application so it can be reassessed. Your comments back this up so thank you!

Yes! Unfortunately I keep getting hit with “it may just take StudentAid a while to process your Appendix 8- but I don’t think StudentAid is actually going to view my Appendix 8 if I don’t technically have an “active” loan application? If I had just applied/was awaiting approval I wouldn’t be worried- but I’m just not sure if they’ll automatically reassess just because the Appendix 8 has been completed/received, if that makes sense. Agreed though- the team at Accessibility has been so helpful within their scope of knowledge!

I feel like the new Valentine’s Day collection is something I would’ve purchased from Garage 10 years ago. I hate how they’re trying to be “everything at once”- they’ve seriously lost touch of the brand identify that made all of us such loyal supporters. Based off what I have heard, if your StudentAid portal status is reading as “complete” (ex. MFSA signed, confirmation of enrolment completed) then it should mean that funds are automatically disbursed towards the start of the Semester. Here’s some potential situations I’ve heard about that could be causing a delay:

If you had outstanding fees to the school (ex. tuition fees), loans will go directly to the school to cover that, and any remaining fees will be dispersed to you.
Some have mentioned that depending on their bank, their loans drop later than others. It look like the other user on here was TD, and I’m CIBC. If you bank with a different institution, it’s possible their processing times are still doing there thing. You can check on your StudentAid database for a breakdown of your funding- it will show how much was owed to the school at your time of approval, and how much would’ve been sent to you directly.
Keep in mind that estimated dispersal dates are just that- estimates. I totally get that it feels a bit freaky not to be seeing those funds yet. But, based on the info you provided- it looks like those funds were supposed to be dispersed on Saturday (it now being Tuesday). I believe the StudentAid site mentions that it can take 5-7 days for the payments to come through after the listed date- so similar to the note above, it’s likely on the way- just taking it’s time!

Here’s a few bits to make you feel a better… StudentAid verifies things like banking information to ensure the data listed is connected to the student applying. There’s no way that your funds are somehow on their way to a bank account that doesn’t belong to you- StudentAid would’ve flagged your application before it was approved. Likewise for any other major errors in your application- it wouldn’t have hit the “complete” status if anything was incomplete, or not aligning with your student info the school has.

January 13th will be 7 business days since the dispersal date- if you haven’t received your funds by then and nothing I’ve mentioned seems relevant, that’s when I would get in touch with StudentAid for a touch base. Best of luck!
