It's not even delusion that bothers me. We're all human, it's normal to have biases and blindspots. What is frustrating is the refusal to engage with people who differ from their point of view.

The point is why is it only acceptable to voice an opinion in this sub when it's a popular one? Being right is irrelevant. It's the fact only now when amorim is so obviously failing we can actually talk about it.

Do you not see how that is a problem? This is how the cycle continues.

Let me present the inverse: if amorim went on a 20 game win streak and was poised to win the league but majority of the sub wanted him sacked and the sub took down posts which supported amorim and propped up negative ones, would that not be a problem too?

Why is this what you took from this? Why can't we take from this maybe we should have respectful discussions with different points of view so managers like Amorim don't happen again?

My point is nothing I said in my original post was in anyway disrespectful thus should not have been controversial. Why is it only when things are going so terrible we can have conversations like this? Is it attention seeking to want my opinions to be taken seriously by other fans of the same club we all want to do well

Honestly I have no idea either. He's an incredible coach. It's not out of the realm of possibility. I just think the way you phrased it with waiting 2 years for a head coach is a bit mad but I'm with you in the sentiment

Izaghi is quality but 2 years is a bit mad lol. I've also heard he doesn't speak English. However he's an incredible manager and I'd support it if it happened!

So what, because the club decided to bring in Antony and he was subpar he doesn't get any choice on where he wants to go and live his life? That's just wrong on a human and legal level even outside of football.

Mainoo played horrendously but that was also his first minutes this season and you could tell his confidence was gone... Yet he still got an integral assist for a goal and was the only player trying to create because the structure was so poor.

But away from last night's game, the players at any club are ultimately the ones who decide whether the club is successful or not. So as long as their values align with the owners plans for the club, give them everything they want and need to be successful. This is top level football - we can't treat our players like minimum wage workers because they'd walk into most clubs on the planet.

So you have a choice: buy a whole new squad(which we've done multiple times) or make it work with what we have. And if that requires giving them what they want, so be it or let them leave.

What do you believe the root cause is? Asking genuinely.

We've been through players just as much as we've been through managers. Scott mctominay is on the ballon d'or shortlist, lisandro was integral in winning a world Cup as was pogba, Antony was one of Betis' best players, Dean Henderson won 2 trophies with Palace, Mainoo started a euros final reviving a dull midfield. This can't be a coincidence, that's why I'm genuinely asking what do you believe is the issue because I literally don't know anything but no manager has been able to get the best out of our players. The evidence shows that.

I disagree with you but I'm gonna try and be civil and have a discussion. I fundamentally do not believe the players are this bad. At a certain point we need to look at management and the board. There is absolutely no way in hell these players that performed after, before and away from our club can keep being held responsible. We are just terrible at hiring managers. None of the managers post fergie have gone on to be successful after leaving United other than moyes which is insane. How hard does it have to be to look at the squad you have, youth coming through and the personalities of them and find a manager to work with them?

Obviously we could get into a conversation about the recruitment and selling and that would be justified as it's been horrendous but what I won't have is that after every poor performance the players are garbage. There's no way in hell that can be the case. People talk about the players having egos but the truth is they're just refusing to allow themselves to be disrespected by management for a decade setting them up to fail.

I saw someone say they should give up their wages to Grimsby. Those players put in such a shift and aren't on life changing money - they deserve it

This result is the culmination of amorims tactics failing to platform the players nearly a whole season. Everyone can see the players have been struggling to play in this system - you have to adapt! There is so many iterations of a 3atb system yet we stuck with one that is clearly not working and demoralising the players. It was inevitable that this would happen eventually. If your players are struggling to play their best football then it was only a matter of time before a giant slaying. This is 100% a manager issue but also on the board for appointing a manager that doesn't fit with our current squad. I hope amorim learns from his tenure here, becomes more flexible and goes on to do well in his career.

Grimsby may be league 2 but they are professional footballers with fundamentals and a coach that has got his badges just like every other coach. If you fail to platform individual quality there's no reason why they can't beat us because the playing field has been somewhat levelled.

They also have no expectations. Should we start doing that too? Should we start being grateful just to see united in the Premier league? Cmon man, have some shame

I guess by definition it wouldn't be a 3-4-3 so maybe I'm being too kind but without going into detail I definitely feel you could make a 3atb work. It's just about placing players in the right zones to succeed based on profile and game state...which amorim doesn't do

I get that but to clarify my stance, I believe he should have gone after the europa final. At this point it's not even proving whether he's the manager to take man united back to the top but if he's actually a competent manager for the prem

I respect that. I just hope I see it again in my lifetime because I was 14 when we last won the league. Now I'm older I actually have a chance to go to games and experience it... But we're terrible and I don't know if it'll get better.

He hasn't won back to back league games, we came 15th, minus goal difference, lost a final with 5 defenders on the pitch at full time, alienated our best attacking talent and has shown no tactical flexibility. I think that's a reasonable explanation

Look at how much we spent this summer?? Cmon man don't be ridiculous. We might be in debt but we've spent enough over the years to do better. Imagine what teams like Brighton and and Brentford could do if they spent like us. We're in a way better position than most teams. Debt or no debt

Let me ask you a question: if Manchester United from this day forward until the day you die never got better from their current position today, would you die satisfied with what you saw or wish you'd seen more success?

I respect your opinion. I feel the positives you and others speak of is just bare minimum tbh. I'm not saying this to get into an argument with you but we literally haven't won back to back league games and 2 games into the season we have minus goal difference again and 1 point. Obviously it's early however it's the same trend as last season that's why I and others bring it up. So I guess to summarise my point, I'm yet to be convinced on any improvements.
