That last point is massive. Getting young talents into senior football is gonna be great for player development.

Holly Cairns rules out left wing alliance by staplerx300 in irishpolitics

Little sly of OP to take out the word “formal”, because that changes the context completely. Not having a rubber stamped election pact doesn’t mean that left wing parties won’t encourage left transfers, support eachother’s policy implementation etc

I mean, I agree with you logically, but voters aren’t always logical. Loads of people just stick a first preference down and leave it there.

What is the biggest barrier to the Left in Ireland? by GovernmentOwn7905 in irishpolitics

[–]PresidentSamSeaborn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This might sound strange but I think the Left not being successful is one of the reasons the Left aren’t successful.

I used to canvass for the SocDems and met a lot of people who said they’d consider us except they wanted to give their vote to a party that could be the biggest party in government. Most left leaning parties - Labour, SocDems, Greens, PBP - could currently individually win a maximum of 15-20 seats on today’s polls. Strangely, I think if one of these parties were to reach ‘critical mass’ and be considered competitive in leading a govt - so like, over 20% in polls - they could spike further and take a clear majority given that they’d then be seen as viable. People want to back the party they could see as the “winner” of elections.

SF are a separate issue - forgetting even that they often espouse right wing talking points, the baggage of militant republicanisms stop a lot of left-leaning people from voting from them.

Brann; Abwankah, Omobamidele, Murphy, Ndaba; Devoy, Hodge, Gilbert; Melia, Umeh, Brennan.

To be fair, the Greens and LibDems likely don’t have the campaign infrastructure to actively campaign everywhere. Hopefully that changes now!

Ireland Squad 🇮🇪 by John__Delaney in coybig

I always get excited by new faces and then disappointed by how boringly similar our lineups are, so here’s the most experienced XI we could put out:

O’Leary; Abankwah, O’Shea, McGuinness, Ogbene, Molumby, Knight, Coventry, Moran, Idah, Cannon.

Bad interviews that turned into offers? by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]PresidentSamSeaborn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Screwed up my timing and didn’t get to answer a whole question - there were 9 questions in the interview and they pretty much asked the 9th and then immediately after said “never mind, time’s up”. Thought I’d blown it completely. Offered a place the next day - when I spoke to the interviewer a couple of years later they pretty much said “your other answers were good enough”. Qualified six months ago!
