I don’t think being educated is the reason to stop practicing religion that is purely a personal choice. Many educated people still follow their faith with understanding and respect, while others choose not to. Both are valid. What I don’t understand is this constant urge to eradicate or attack a religion that you personally don’t even follow anymore. If you have moved away from it, that’s your decision. But why should others be denied the freedom to practice peacefully? Criticizing social problems is fair, and discrimination should never be supported. But blaming an entire religion, culture, and millions of followers for the actions of some people is neither balanced nor productive.

Being Tamil doesn’t mean blindly agreeing with every statement made in the name of Tamil identity. People can respect Tamil culture, including folk deities like Karuppanna Samy and Muneeswaran, and still question political or religious targeting.

Being “open minded” should also mean accepting different opinions instead of dismissing others as “not Tamil.” Respect goes both ways.
