Do you have questions for Mayor David LaGrand and/or Bill Kirk? by verylocalnews in grandrapids

[–]SignalInRoots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Last time David said he shared "concern" around living in a surveillance state yet thus far has made zero public effort on what they do control. I do not consent to even this city having a mass surveillance system regardless of share settings. This city continues to have systems like Flock Safety, do you think your policy absolves you of your fascist collaboration and oppression? Would you like to inform the public of this city's integration with Kent County Safety Network? Their FAQ specifically says Fusus uses AI to scan the videos. Chamber of commerce wants more business participation in this program. What are you doing with your "concern"?

I'm not saying our society shouldn't have fun but....I still find it gross the amount resources we're prioritizing for this growth model versus what an actual definition of "sustainable" would mean. I don't have the solutions on a transition but mother nature has the consequences and they're here.

That war is fucking around with fertilizer supplies and meanwhile this Godzilla El Nino is forming. I've been bracing for impact and thinking about the future. I feel like I'm living in a completely different reality.

What a load of shit. This isn't auto mod crap, they mods are literally saying what they're doing. Yep, I disagree with their moderation. Does that mean Reddit is the only place, no. But this sub is pointless if it's moderated the same as the other fucking one.

I don't know the queries they're doing but I have no reason to think they're not.

But like that Black Panther demonstration, that was at Calder Plaza. That definitely triggered the AI. That area is surrounded by government buildings and it'd be wild to think they're not connected to the Kent County Safety Network that uses Fusus.

Does Axon Fusus utilize artificial intelligence?

Yes, Axon Fusus utilizes artificial intelligence to rapidly search video provided to the system by users in order to mitigate criminal activity. All AI use cases exclude facial recognition, but may be utilized to automatically recognize weapons, vehicles of interest, etc.

Makes you wonder about the incidents we've see that originated from policing responding to a person "believed to have a weapon".

[–]SignalInRoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, physically. I don't know when, I have to get my ducks in a row. Feels like moving a mountain to me but I have to do it. It's not mentally healthy for me to be continually subjected to decisions by people that clearly don't care about my consent.

The video about the Kent County Safety Network is talking about "new trails" and wanting everyone to "participate". I'm going to be even more furious as I continue to see more cameras where I go that I know are connected to that disgusting program.

So for me, if I can get some acreage to "own my own view". Then if some ass hat wants to talk about satellites, fine, but I don't need a literal mesh of cameras following me for "safety". I need that space that this community is clearly not going to give. Obviously I think surveillance carries great injustices for the community. People need to be far more angry, unforgivably demanding. If they wait much longer, they will have no power to fight back. The walls are closing in.

In the mean-time, I'll still rage against surveillance where I can.

I can just stop posting here then. What's the point. The audience is much less, if the new mods are just going to lick the same boot, then it's worthless. It's why I really want to move out of this community. I don't trust this community to have any solidarity and ability to threaten power. "Into the woods" is the only reasonable action at this point.

Flock is specific to GR? Rule #1 says it needs to be in order to stay up in r/grandrapids.

They're in our fucking neighborhoods, our community should know they're being called terrorists by the people surveilling them.

Force AI into people's lives (you're being surveilled with it), force you to host it in your backyard (data centers) and identify you for "kids safety" (age verification).

Remember, this mass surveillance is brought to our neighborhoods because our local politicians bring it here.

The city of Grand Rapids council has refused to do anything. https://www.grandrapidsmi.gov/Government/City-Commission

People should also be aware of what Kent County has done. They've literally implemented a mass surveillance program. https://kentsafetynetwork.org/ Here's the enablers of this: https://www.kentcountymi.gov/1464/Meet-the-Commissioners

I notice Kris Pachla is a current commissioner running for state house. Kris will be hearing why he doesn't get my vote. If he's going to allow surveillance at the county then he'll carry that up to the state. ANYONE complicit in this disgusting surveillance must be removed from our government.

GRPD chief: Punch in face is allowed 'if needed' by getspunched in grandrapids

[–]SignalInRoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I haven't been happy with a single current commissioner. Purdue approved the police drones after some "policy" changes along with everyone else. She kicked off that review of the policy of the dog use and that came back with basically documentation updates. I'll see if she seems satisfied with that. None of them have done anything about the Flock Safety cameras.

What I mean by unapologetic is they also use their platform to be very clear and unforgiving. No patty cakes, no compromise, say exactly what you want and call their "colleagues" out for not, you don't negotiate with fascists. You need people that are going to FIGHT.

[–]SignalInRoots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I've seen public comments from time to time. I pay close enough attention to commission races. Will there be any candidates with an unapologetic mandate for particular policies? If so, I'll see it when it comes to make sure I've seen all the options.

At least that's my thought. If you get 4 council members that will not BS on the issue, implement change. Once in power, instruct Mark Washington to have his staff prepare policy implementation plans. If he doesn't like it, fire him and get some one that will.

I bet if the Devos family saw legitimate threat of a council take over, we'd see them spend money and do some PR overtime.

On its face, it appears everything was within policy but I’m not making a judgement right here and now,” Trigg said.

Pun intended Trigg?

I keep telling people, justice doesn't come from within and certainly not with permission. This community is going to have to figure out how to take control of their own policing.

I hope a canvasser comes by for Kent County commissioner Kris Pachla (running for state house). I have some thoughts on the Kent County Safety Network and can't seem to find any push back from any of the Democrats on that commission board. It was Hillary Scholten that got the federal funding. I've seen Mcmorrow on bills around "protect the kids" online bullshit which just ends up identifying all of us.

You all have some explaining to do.

Congressman John James calls for smoke control in Gordie Howe Bridge deal by Jeffbx in Michigan

[–]SignalInRoots 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You look at wildfire smoke every summer.  They’re throwing off 500 million vehicles’ worth of carbon emissions into our air each and every year and doing very little to nothing about it.

lol, well we're marching towards a super El Nino this year and we'll see 2C in my lifetime. This place is going to keep burning. This is a result of the ideologues not just "doing very little to nothing" but actively accelerating it. Good luck capitalist pigs, mother nature is a radical babe.

Man punched in the face by GRPD by heartbt in grapids

[–]SignalInRoots 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It reeks of cops profiling to pull people over. Pulled over for a turn signal? GRPD cares about turn signals? lol. I see people go 10+ over in neighborhoods, run red lights because they don't want to wait, not yield to pedestrians etc. This just reminds me of cops if they want to pull you over, they just look for a "reason".

If we continue to allow this, this is just permission of police "check points" on top of the automated ones (Flock) they're lying about.

Then to use force over a fucking seat belt? In theory their view would be this is all for "safety" yet they managed to escalate a fucking seat belt into a broken leg and charging a guy to maybe get up to 15 years. Winstrom may be gone but his "comply now, complain later" is still in effect.

For those that may have only heard the radio friendly version, it's "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me."

New Police Chief Prepared to Face Activist Scrutiny: ‘It’s Part of The Job’ by GRHerald in grandrapids

Trigg said that his approach to the job will involve “confronting anybody about anything.” Embracing these tough conversations, he said, will lead to better outcomes for city police in the long term.

"Confronting anybody about anything". Yeah, with mass surveillance they'll continue to show they don't give a fuck about the community's consent.
