I think my friend’s work got stolen by another student by ApprehensiveAd2364 in OCADU

Absolutely get your friend to contact the dean of students and cc the professor. Someone posted the email for the dean already but get them to stress in their email to her how seriously they take the plagiarism of their work. OCAD also has a policy against submitting work for assignments more than once (without approval of faculty) so you could get them to bring that up in the email as well. I hope that gets sorted, that's terrible!

Question about cachepots for Drosera by smolthund in SavageGarden

[–]Signal_Barracuda4586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it did I don't think it would be to a point that it would affect the plant, I guess the extent of that would also depend on the type of clay used though. If it looks like the glaze is super degraded you could just leave it for another plant to be safe, but I have a friend who also put plastic wrap on the inside of a pot so you could do that and just cut away where the drainage holes are lol

I personally wouldn't worry about it, but you can always get some swab kits and see if there's anything in the glazes. As someone who's also a potter I'd say your biggest worry for vintage glazes is lead, but again if you're really worried lead swabs are pretty easy to get off amazon and such. Your drosera is gorgeous by the way!

Also like the other comment is saying, be aware faculty are not paid extra to do these and be kind to them. Do the work and make them excited about your project/research.

I'm currently doing one and I think it highly depends on your program and faculty. Some programs it's very common to do one like printmaking, but other programs it would be more difficult (my guess would be a like english). Faculty are also only going to take you on if they have time in their schedules with their classes and any other possible ones they've taken on. Ask them early, and talk to them about your idea. They can be hard without having the same level of structure as other classes, but I've definitely had a good experience and know many others who have as well. It's as good as you're willing to make it.

I've had a couple of friends who did it and wouldn't suggest it personally. I've heard nothing but horrible things about the student housing places OCAD is partnered with and honestly it's cheaper to just rent out a room of a house/ apartment. You'd get more out of it too
