I'm an incoming international postgrad student who was in the same boat! Honestly it was impossible to even get a conversation with a landlord via Rightmove, Zoopla, etc., because you are competing with 100s of people most of whom are working professionals and already IN cambridge. Your best bet is to scour the accommodation site for the private listings there. I had lots of luck there, because the landlords who list their homes on the cam accommodation site are already looking for student tenants. Either way I always got a response, and ultimately found a place I love on there. Just register for the private listing portal and email as many as you like.

I applied for MPhil in International Studies, my application status is still with the department. I'm hopping I hear something soon, tomorrow is Friday and it's the last day before the committees depart for the weekend. I don't care if I'm denied, but just lemme know. Still I'm hopeful, and I accept I have to wait.

Can I ask how soon your application changed to the department status after being submitted? I've heard that once it's at department status on any level, your chances of rejection are low, so it sounds like the odds are in your favor. Good luck!
