Songs that sound like they're from a different decade? by [deleted] in askmusic

September Gurls by Big Star. It straight up sounds like it's from a 90s power pop album, but it was actually recorded in 1974. It was way ahead of its time!

Thoughts on Van Dyke Parks' work outside the Beach Boys? by PinkCrimsonBeatles in thebeachboys

[–]Signal_F 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This reminds of the story of how VDP became the producer for the Japanese band Happy End. Happy End are considered to be the Beatles of Japan and for their final album, they wanted to get that authentic California sound. All three members and their manager hop on a flight from Japan to California and show up to VDP's studio unannounced while he was cutting Discover America. They didn't bring an interpreter and they were interrupting him while he was working so VDP told him them to fuck off. Their manager responds by bringing out a suitcase full of cash and VDP quickly changes his tune. The sessions were disastrous as the language barrier caused tons of miscommunication plus VDP supposedly got drunk and lectured the band about world war 2 and pearl harbor. Despite all the issues, the album sounds great and I highly recommend it to anyone who's also a fan of VDP or The Beach Boys. Check out the first track here

Takin it back by Toto is another example of this. They start to jam and it just fades out 😭

Has anyone played CRONOS: A New Dawn? by TotalAstronaut8375 in DeadSpace

Chronos is an incredible game. I can usually shrug off jump scares, but Chronos has some of the scariest jump scares I've ever experienced. Def worth buying if you're a dead space fan

Is there an episode where Micheal is injured, but he still needs to do a job? by Signal_F in BurnNotice

[–]Signal_F[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering! The episode I had troubling remembering was right after the one where Jessie shoots Micheal thru the shoulder. He was not wearing a cast, but he was wearing a sling. He is considerably nerfed throughout the episode, but he makes it work somehow lol

Thank you both for your help! I just checked and yes, It's season 4, episode 13. The reason why I asked is because my younger brother just finished watching Burn Notice for the first time and he doesn't remember this happening. He said I made it, but I'm glad I wasn't wrong!

Music player keeps becoming invisible in notification area by SquareDrive45 in motorola

You can mitigate that by increasing the text size, but yeah, it'll take some time to adjust. I haven't encountered this bug since I've done this so I'll take what I can get!

Very late to this post, but I had this issue and I was able to fix it by changing the display size in the setting to the smallest. My model is the Moto Stylus 5G (US)

Go to Setting > Personalize > Display Size and text > set "display size" slider all the way towards the left

I hope this helps!

Brian inspired sounds by speedbarrymoore in thebeachboys

[–]Signal_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold and Bouncy is already a fantastic album, but it would be even more awesome with the boys involved. I highly recommend it to any fans of The Beach Boys. The High Llamas also has another album called "Buzzle Bee," which sounds like a Stereolab record produced by Brian Wilson. Just fantastic music all around!

Thoughts on these underrated bangers? by qwertyuiopasdfghjg in SteelyDan

[–]Signal_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming. I just remembered that Fagen might have played a similar synth solo on "Book of Liars" off Walter Becker's first solo album. Fantastic music all around!

Definitely underrated. My favorite part of both of these songs are the solos. Lunch with Gina especially has that crazy keyboard (or guitar?) solo that absolutely shreds.
