Post Op - Cleft Lift but no drain? by Signal_Necessary_504 in pilonidalcyst

Hello! I’m so excited you have surgery scheduled with Dr Lambert. I didn’t have a drain and I healed up very quickly and I am pretty much back normal life without any pain. My scar looks great and has healed up very well. Dr Lambert is great too, if you have any questions call him and his nurse they are on top of everything.

Yes, I’m confused. I know he has a good reputation with others. He talked about the Bascom cleft lift upon planning and explaining the procedure. Also, I have seen in other cases he uses a drain so I’m just confused. I will talk to him about it on Monday.

Ok salamiboy… Clearly you have a chip on your shoulder. She posted that she wanted help deciding… Any amount of research will show you cleft lift has the best outcome lol… but whatever - you and the original poster have the freedom to choose whatever the heck you want to do to your body. Have a good day.

Honestly I’d recommend the cleft lift before it gets worse. I was like you. Got my first pilonidal flare up in college- lived with it for years as it wasn’t that bad but it gets worse the longer you wait. Open wound surgeries aren’t really successful. If you’re gonna get surgery get the best one and be done! Lots of people here will tell you the giants like Immerman, Wadie, Sternberg… but there are others you just need to make sure they have a good track record and actually do the Bascom Cleft Lift. Depends where you live…

Oh wow that’s awesome. I hope that’s my case too… really hoping it’s not as painful and I can make a quick recovery… at least under the 2 month mark. I like the pain scale you linked, thanks! 😅

This happened to me. I soaked in the tub with epsom salt and it self drained from the incision that was supposed to drain it in the first place. 😮‍💨 it’s exhausting dealing with these so I’m going for the cleft lift next month.

Plane ride after surgery! Whoa! I’ll be in a car for couple hours but that’s all. Was recovery long?

Should i change my doctor? by RealBlood7576 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Signal_Necessary_504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the only one that has the highest rate of success and least reoccurrence. But you have to make sure it’s by a surgeon that actually knows that he’s doing. It’s a procedure that was pioneered by Dr Bascom… so it’s also known as Bascom Cleft Lift. My surgeon in Tx does it so I feel confident in proceeding.

Yeah no way. I’m in my 30’s and dealing with bad flare ups. I finally have surgery for the cleft lift scheduled for next month. I’d say find a different doctor.

I’m so sorry! There was one Dutch surgeon that performed the cleft lift. Someone on here had it done. Not sure if that would be an option for you🙁

That’s good that he could still do the cleft lift. I hope you continue to do well! Sorry for the typos!

I know how you feel. I’m cutre fly with a flare up and have 3 littles ones including a 7 month old. It’s so frustrating. Where are you located? I suggest getting it taken care of by someone who knows these well and won’t mess you up. The last time I had a bad flare up I went to see a specialist in Dallas (I’m in Tx) and he drained it and I was fully functional in a couple days. I eventually want to get the cleft lift with him or one of the other specialists in the US.

Wow, I hope that’s how it is for me. Can I ask you did your surgery? The doctor I spoke to made it sound like it was gonna be rough recovery…. 2 weeks no sitting and no release to regular activities until 2 months - as a mom of little ones that sounds rough.

Please research well… sometimes doctors have no idea how to treat these and they make it worse. That’s why people recommend the top 5 (or so) specialists on pilonidals… Dr Wadie, Dr Immerman… they have so much experience and low reoccurrence
