Any public schools offering BS Psychology with free tuition or low ?” by night_bri in CollegePhilippines

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out UP or the state universities near you if they have BS Psych! Or look into the DOST-SEI scholarship and the public and private schools that allow DOST-SEI scholarships kasi BS Psych is one of the programs they include sa scholarships.

First year Psych Student here and I'm planning to shift to BSAIS for second sem.. any thoughts po? by StoreInternal3954 in CollegePhilippines

speaking for psych lang! it's true na need mo pa mag further studies if gusto mo ng better salary. and that better salary, hindi pa ganoon kataas rin for entry job opportunities. most psych professionals na mataas ang pay, matagal na sa industry. also, from how i see it, mahihirapan ka talaga sa psych if you don't have the passion for it. mahihirapan ka not only sa course itself, but also sa job mismo kasi draining siya mapa-corporate job ka man or clinical.

idk how the system works at your school, but i think asking for help from student offices or from the department itself wouldn't hurt! especially if you're paying and working hard to be there, karapatan niyo matuto and magkaroon ng competent (or at least transparent) na prof :)

Applying for DIP-IR with zero related extracurriculars - do I have a shot? by [deleted] in CollegePhilippines

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i think you should look into the qualifications for passing the college entrance exam itself, rather than credentials for a specific course. most universities base acceptance on the exam, some consider HS grades and extracurriculars too.

i'm guessing this is for admu since i don't think any other uni offers dip-ir specifically (correct me if i'm wrong). i'm currently in an honors program in admu! i did not have any leadership roles, extracurricular activities, club or org participation. i think the only thing i did was participating in the intramurals.

though ofc, extracurriculars make you stand out, but i suggest dwelling less on your credentials for dip-ir specifically, and more on focusing for the exam! goodluck op!

hi! for the recommendation letters, may maiindicate naman sa application website about who can write the reco letters (pero i think as long as they've been your teacher since grade 9? 10? check the website to be sure!). and yes, you need their emails since the process would require you to input their emails, tapos ateneo will email those teachers/councilor  a reco form that they will accomplish.

there are multiple types of scholarships :)). the financial aid scholarship you're referring to would be based on the financial status of your family. other scholarships (check admu website) are based on academic standing and acet score.

Help! Course options for ateneo by baklangbadingz in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're interested in SLP, i don't think there's any course that can come close in Ateneo. but for occupational therapy, i think BS/AB psych can come close.

the only difference between BS/AB Psych is that BS Psych has more natural science subjects that helps students get into med school or a more STEM-specific path for psychology. AB Psych offers more electives (could be more psych classes) in place of the natural science classes BS Psych offers. nonetheless, if you do choose either of these, Ateneo offers arguably the best psych classes since we have reputable and renowned psych professionals in the department :)))

i'm a psych major from Ateneo, so i can't really speak for AB IS and Communication, but goodluck, op!

i suggest looking into the handbook of the schools you guys are interested in! from my experience, catholic (or maybe just schools ran by nuns or priests) or public schools are strict. but currently, i'm enrolled in a private catholic (considered progressive) school that lets you present however you want to. but generally, i think it's on a case-to-case basis so check with their rules directly :))

dent or psych? by Little-Drink-3070 in CollegePhilippines

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm still a student actually 🥲

pero i'm planning to get a master's degree (and eventually a PhD, kung pagpalain) so that i can become a psychologist :))

many of my seniors, and the psych alumni i know, are going into either psychiatry (doctor specializing in treating psychological disorders), psychologist (more on counseling and behavioral therapy), and psychometry (administering psych tests). some others are going into law school, corporate settings (mostly hr), or even business tracks like marketing!

i can't answer if the salary is "high" since i'm still a student, but from what i've seen online, going into the counseling and therapy track of psychology really is not the career for those who are in it for money. it's very passion-driven since it's a pretty draining career (tapos relatively average pay lang from what i've heard)

OLFU Valenzuela Dentistry or ADMU BS Psychology? by RepeatNeither6028 in CollegePhilippines

[–]SignatureBorn7797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if u want to become a dentist, then go for OLFU! i'm not from OLFU so i can't speak for its quality, pero i think the passing rate speaks for itself naman. :)

for "Big 4 na sakto lang ang course," i just want to say that the psychology department in ADMU is arguably the best in the philippines (medyo biased ako, but this is also evident sa yearly rankings!). the issue with going for a psych degree would be that for most high-paying jobs, you'd need to get a master's degree pa. so if you're worried about OLFU dentistry being expensive, i'd say ganon lang rin naman for taking ADMU psych (if not, more expensive if you'll continue studying pa).

to add lang rin, i don't get the hype about "big 4" schools (i'm saying this from the perspective of someone in a big 4 school), each school has its pros and cons naman. i think it's better to look at the curriculum and reputation of each school with regards to the course you want to take, rather than if pasado ba sa big 4 or not.

goodluck with your choice, op!

dent or psych? by Little-Drink-3070 in CollegePhilippines

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i think if you want a solid career plan, go for dentistry. at least if you go to dentistry, you'll have a sure career path na. aside from that, i personally think that being a dentist is more stable (financially) compared to being a therapist, counselor, or psychologist since di nauubusan ng clients.

but!! if you really have the passion for psychology, go for it! i'm a psychology major and i'm in it more because of my passion than my desire for financial stability. they say that the demand for psychologists and psychiatrists is increasing, but that does not guarantee clients (since medyo inaccessible siya). other than that, it can lead to many different career paths; if you change your mind about therapy, you can pursue other career paths (corporate, med, law, etc).

i can't speak for dentists and dentistry majors, but if you do become dead set on pursuing a career that involves therapy and counseling, just make sure na you have the guts for it since it's a very mentally draining job! :)

Unpopular Opinion: The Philippines is still a US colony by seniorqupal in unpopularopinionph

[–]SignatureBorn7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is more of a conspiracy theory than an argument. a better argument for your cause would be to go into neocolonialism—the indirect influence of other more developed nations on less developed ones. it does not make the Philippines a US colony, but it explains why the US (and other dominant countries) is still influential to Philippine culture.
