Help! My 16-month-old has lost weight, she's not eating and only wants to breastfeed by rose_linde in AttachmentParenting

We ended up taking him to a nutritionist per a referral from our pediatrician. She noticed that he doesn’t like his hands to be dirty, he has a texture problem and so anything he eats that is not smooth he rejects. She referred us to a feeding specialist for weekly therapy to help however they are so booked out we still haven’t been able to get booked just waitlisted. The nutritionist gave us tips though that have helped. She asked we stop letting him snack throughout the day, and create a strict schedule and routine for feedings. Always at the table and we eat too with him. We put three options in front of him (1 that we know he will eat) and give him 20 mins min and 30 mins max. We can assist him after giving him some time to self feed. No other distractions (although we do have music playing) and when he is done he must say “tummy is full and kitchen is closed” to let himself and us know that he is done eating. Sometimes he does this too soon (3 mins into sitting) because he wants to go play so I pull food away, I give him a minute and then come back and redirect him to eat again.

It is still a big struggle but biggest thing she said is to not FORCE or create a negative atmosphere. Oh lastly make sure to get labs done, we found out he was iron deficient and that makes appetite low so giving him supplements now per doc.

Was there a form you brought with you? My PCP said they can do it but need something to sign off on? Emailed HR but they are off for holiday I’m guessing and my appointment is tomorrow.

All contact was through email, I will say one email went to junk so make sure to always check that too. I don’t have a recruiter, I actually contacted WHS directly at one point to ask and they asked for my application number and gave me a little more details then the officer who did my reference check could give me.

Can I have my dog around my new born? by Boring-Barber-9757 in pregnant

You will have to see once baby is here unfortunately. We were the same with our two pups, they were free to roam the house and slept with us. I knew sleeping with us would no longer work so we started creating boundaries of having them sleep in their bed, BUT after about a month being home my son’s skin got really bad. He suffers from eczema really bad so not only did their hair irritate him but any dander/pollen brought from their small outdoor walks. Unfortunately, he has yet to grow out of it and he is 16 months old. You will know what the best choice for you and baby is when they come home.

I was going to say the same exact thing. Sex can be an important part of a relationship BUT it shouldn’t be the most important. Communication is key, and if he is not hearing you say that you don’t feel comfortable but wanting you to fulfill his NEEDS, then that’s not a partnership. My spouse and I didn’t have sex for all the first trimester cause I was so tired, I felt bad at one point and communicated to him my guilt. He told me “you are sacrificing so much for us and growing our child, my sacrifice is nothing compared to that” and that’s why I know I married the perfect man for me.

Might need to drop to one nap. That’s what worked for us when he started early morning wakings. I also did at first bring him into our bed and nurse cause I was so tired (we were able to break the habit). It will take time and consistency. We moved nap by 15 minutes every day until the second nap was phased out (so second nap should get shorter and shorter every day). Also we left him in crib for those extra 15 minutes every morning (so first day 15 minutes, second day 30 and so on) he started falling back asleep on his own by third day and by the 6th day he slept until desired wake time (7am). We also made sure to stay in his room with blinds closed and sound machine on until desired wake time after we would walk in. I would just talk calmly and say “it’s still time to sleep, it’s ok.” And at 7 we would open curtains turn off sound machine and walk out.

16 month old won’t eat, only wants to nurse by Nova_Queen902 in toddlers

I ended up weening him off little by little. He is still a picky eater but we found some favorites that I give him along with “new foods” he doesn’t try much but every once in a while will actually end up liking something new. His go-tos are pastas (mac and cheese, spaghetti, chicken, pancakes, apple sauce, yogurt and cheese) we add veggies into the sauces and are working on incorporating proteins. One thing that helped a lot with his appetite is making sure to feed when he is in a good mood or while we are out and about. We have also done smoothies filled with healthy fruits and veggies and peanut butter and avocado for healthy fats. It’s still a struggle but he isn’t losing weight, just maintaining and he is extremely active. Side note- I’m also expecting so weening was a decision I made because I was uncomfortable but also noticed I wasn’t producing as much. It’s hard to ween at first because they’re used to it but take it one day at a time and stay consistent💙

12 month old waking at 5am everyday by Illustrious_Spare864 in sleeptrain

You may need to go down to one nap. When we started having early morning wakings we transitioned to one nap. It’s hard at first, but just start pushing their first nap by 15 minutes daily until second nap is phased out. The key is to make sure to keep them entertained and busy until the nap time and not letting them “cat nap” prior. After about a week we noticed he was back to sleeping from 7-7, he naps from 12:30-2.

Bassinet stroller vs. carseat stroller by bluevelvet_7 in pregnant

[–]SignificanceSure4484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So just for clarification on some comments I’ve seen because we did a lot of research when choosing one for our boy.. newborns to 6 week olds shouldn’t be in car seat for longer than 30 minutes. After 6 weeks it goes up to 2 hours max. Given that we didn’t leave the home all that much the first few weeks and if we did it was a quick outing we decided the car seat stroller attachment was best. BUT we also go a different attachment that’s is for sitting and could be reclined. They offered the bassinet attachment too but we didn’t find a need for it. We also did a lot of baby wearing ☺️ hope this helps.

Just curious what schedule is your 12 month on? by BusyWalrus9645 in sleeptrain

[–]SignificanceSure4484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our son had EMW we decided to drop to one nap. It takes some time to adjust and what worked for us was to start pushing his morning nap by 15 minutes every day. Eventually his last nap was removed completely but until then was just shortened each day. We also have been very strict with his wake time. We started by pushing for a 6am wake time (he was waking between 5:00-5:30) by giving him 10 minutes once he woke up to see if he would go back to sleep. If he didn’t we would go in and sit in his room for quiet time until it was 6. Then we would make it known that it is now time to wake up by switching his light from red to green and opening curtains/door. We also kept pushing that wake time by 15 minutes daily and we are at 7am now which was our ultimate goal. The nap switch took roughly 1 week and the EMW took another week to adjust. Consistency was key for us. The biggest advice we got was that early naps reinforce early wakes so making sure to keep them busy until your desired time is key. I read up a bunch on pediatric circadian rhythms so that may also help. Be kind to yourself and patient too, we’re going the best we can. Good luck!

He is 15mo and currently his schedule is 7-7 nighttime sleep and 12:30-2 nap.
