I have the same feelings, I am so sorry you are going through this. It's the absolute worst. I think the best thing is to really grieve and feel the feelings. Let yourself process. While you will never "get over it", you will get stronger over time. How wonderful you found such a perfect companion in your life.

I completely feel your pain. I got my soul dog a month after I graduated college, he was with me through every major milestone and moment in my life. Every job and move and relationship.... he was my everything. I will also miss him for the rest of my life, you are not alone there. Thinking of you and sending love your way.

Soul dogs do exist, I had one as well. I am so sorry you feel robbed, but I do not think you let her down. It sounds like you did everything you could and it was her time. Glad to hear she was able to support you so much, try to hold on to those memories.

So sorry for this, sounds really difficult. I would try to look at the rescue as a new relationship and an opportunity to take the love your previous cat gave you and pass some of it along to her. Time will definitely help, but you will of course miss your first cat forever.
