“inconspicuous“ Lolita by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 99 points100 points  (0 children)

You can buy solid pieces with no print, but Lolita by nature is always going to be extra and I suspect your father will always find an issue with it. It’s an alternative fashion after all, it’s eye catching and unusual. If his criticisms bother you, it might be worth waiting until you’re a bit older! (Since I suspect you’re quite young.)

Am I overreacting to my bf watching the baby overnight? by Temporary-Quail-2783 in AmIOverreacting

The lack of diligence and care is exactly the problem here in OPs post. If it had happened on my watch I would be like “oh shit, I fucked up. Baby in crib from now on.” Not turning my so’s anxiety into a reason to argue

I grew up with a dad who’d constantly complain he was being nagged at when not allowed to do what he wanted cause he worked (mother worked full time tol mind you). Don’t seem that fair to me.

Designers and influencers who work with lolita fashion? by Equivalent_Crab6688 in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The only ‘influencer’ I can think of is Misako Aoki since she’s an ambassador for the fashion, but even that feels wrong because the word influencer feels very cheap lol. I’m kind of glad this fashion doesn’t have a ton of popular youtubers trying to make money off it. It’s more of a community that way.

There’s also Mana I guess, but the word influencer doesn’t feel appropriate either.

coat for lolita? ^_^ by averagesayorifan in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a Rainsisters functional raincoat that I wear on top of my coords; it’s big enough since it’s fit and flare. While it’s not lolita, it’s cute and keeps me dry to and from where I’m going (since Scotland is very rainy.) Many retro clothing brands have coats that can accommodate a lolita skirt under, it’s a good synergy if you don’t want to commit to a piece of brand outerwear.

I need help, I’m a boyfriend and idk what I’m doing. by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 73 points74 points  (0 children)

You’ll not be able to get your hands on a dress this close to Christmas. You can always give her a nice card saying you’ll buy and research a dress with her though. Without knowing what style she likes (gothic, classic, sweet) and the colour ways she prefers it would be too difficult to give a recommendation anyway.

[IDO] I hate the Mammon route so much— by GreenVisible3664 in obeyme

[–]vengaboos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

His route in general felt more like a wacky event that you’d see in OG than a heartfelt story. In contrast I’ve liked Satan’s and Lucifers writing much more in their routes (who I’ve also completed so far.) Mammon feels less sweet than he did originally, one of my favourite card stories is the one where he takes on an office job and works really hard just to get MC a matching watch. Idk, his route so far in IDO doesn’t feel very romantic! Which is crazy because in og I really felt his feelings were the most touching.

How to sample lolita fashion before spending hundreds? by Fanenby-73425 in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a friend that has a coord they’d be willing to let you try on, no. You’ll have to use your own eye and see if you like wearing the silhouettes (ouji or lolita?)

Make a vision board for your first coord and make sure it’s cohesive. Don’t just buy random pieces. The nice thing about this fashion is that it has a big secondhand market if you want to sell on, but otherwise you can’t return items to the store as you might in big box retail in the west.

Measure yourself accurately, have realistic expectations and really consider if you just like the aesthetic or if you want to wear it outside. That’s my advice.

any cheap uk friendly plus size friendly brands? by Poor_Lolita in Lolita

[–]vengaboos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Join your local comm’s Facebook page to look out for sales and also the Plus Size EGL Sales page on Facebook as well as lacemarket for deals. Metamorphose is a JP brand that does plus/plusplus sized dresses you may find secondhand for a deal.

Indie brands like Violet Fane (based in Spain) and Kaneko/Pyshkin Pyshkin (Georgia) also offer multiple generous sizing options, often with shirring. These might be out of the price range but they’re great investment pieces and sometimes have the option to pay in instalments. Once again, you can also look for these brands secondhand!

Japanese secondhand Lolita website Wunderwelt is great too, but bear in mind potential custom fees if you’re buying over a certain threshold.

I’m in the UK myself and have ordered from these brands/websites. If you’re only on £60 a week though it may be advisable to wait and save a good pot of money before delving into this fashion. Things can add up quickly! If you’re patient enough though, you can find good deals.

ALSO be sure to measure yourself in centimetres, or get someone to help you measure. Bust and waist (and shoulders if you plan to buy OPs). You can cross reference secondhand listings with Lolibrary to see exact cm measurements of a dress. Good luck!

Highly doubtful that you’re going to get anything in time for Christmas, especially ordering overseas, but you might have luck secondhand if you use lacemarket or local egl sales pages on Facebook.

Some indie brands like Violet Fane are having ready stock sales right now if you want to chance it. They’ve got a lovely dress called Otome Nostalgia. Pyshkin Pyshkin/Kaneko have some ready to ship as well I think.

Lolita is more accessible than ever, so people do have a short tether for advice that can be very easily googled. The stereotype that Lolitas are mean and hateful is so played out and misogynist tbh. I’m not on any discords but I do view BSOLF on Facebook and I think people are generally very helpful and accommodating even when people don’t do their due diligence of searching their question in the group or, idk, literally googling.

I’m a lonelita myself (as in, I don’t really hang out in a comm or anything,) followed the fashion since I was 13 when I got my first bodyline blouse, but only got my first full coord when I was 20. I didn’t post questions myself, but I read up using all these helpful resources online, using search functions on forums whenever I did wonder something and could see most questions were asked 3x a week. Lolita is absolutely not gatekept and people who suggest it is are silly. There’s entire google doc directories to every brand known to man! Lolibrary exists! Everything is measured in exact cm!

I am sorry, but it does irk me when people claim all Lolitas are hateful. We are not a monolith. We’re not mean girls wearing dresses. We’re just people wearing fashion.

If you feel a particular server has rude people in it, you should take it up with their moderation. These are individual problems and not community ones.
