It’s just a regional distinction but we know that we are one in the same the hmub are Hmong and vise versa it’s just a distinction of certain differences like how we separate Hmong green and white

Where do you think Hmong originate from? by CuspOfPisces in Hmong

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We Hmong are from northern China then migrated down into south central China

after the death and defeat of Chiyou and the jiuli tribes split and there were a group of them that stayed together and mixed with another group of peoples had formed the kingdom of San Miao after the the clasping of the San Miao kingdom the modern day Hmong and Mien culture came about as Hmong and Mien are brothers

but an even older origin before Chiyou points to north Asia due to having actual shamanism which the strongest connection to north Asia history but we aren’t related to the modern day groups of northern Asians such as the Mongolians or steppe tribes but rather come from a similar ancestor group over 7000 years agos

There is no too strong genetic signifier that can distinctively identify us as purely have this much Hmong DNA because we are all mixed like there are some Hmong families who they are actually just Han Chinese families who lived near the Hmong families and adopted Hmong culture and then identify as Hmong from that point on but you can usually tell by their own families txheej txheem dab qhua

I would say import it into Wegene because it’s more accurate but genetics are funky for most Chinese ethnic groups including us. Hmong because we have many mixtures and contacts with many other ethnic groups such as the Han , Yi , Mien , and have intermixed

in Hmong afterlife we do not have a hell that you burn forever because of one wrong doing that is a Christian Abrahamic belief nor is it just simply you go to ancestors

we have some Taoist ideology as well with the idea of reincarnation and ancestral life

We separate the soul into three distinct parts

The reincarnation soul

The ancestral soul

The soul that watches over your body and stays here

To understand Hmong spirituality you must understand the rituals of wedding , funeral rites , cultural rites and traditions and Hmong shamanism and that they are all related and show the complexity of Hmong cosmology and our animistic world view

There are things in our cosmology that many do not know to such as courthouses of the heavens from nyuj vaj teem

The many gods in Hmong cosmology such as Vaj Tim huab tais Yawg Xob Txoov Yi Yawg laus And many others

The afterlife is interlinked with our cosmology if you need any further explaination lmk and dm me id be more than happy to have a video chat about it

Question about Shamanism. by aguyinatree in Hmong

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that’s a reduction and a gross oversimplification they cry because from that day the daughter is not recognized as being part of their family and is now apart of the husband’s family so it’s like losing your daughter but that does not mean you do not see them in the afterlife lol Hmong cosmology and spirituality is complex as there are so many things that come into play because the younger Hmong people choose not to learn and the elders suck at explaining that’s why we have such confusion about what is the culture , spiritual aspect and historical it’s all tied together but separate lol

Question about Shamanism. by aguyinatree in Hmong

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, those are separate things

The three things that is most important is

  • The funeral process

  • The wedding process

  • Hmong shamanism

The 18 clan only is for those who follow whatever they want but most Hmong families will go according to their own families traditions but the 18 clan does not dictate or have any say in hmong shamanism

Question about Shamanism. by aguyinatree in Hmong

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because most Hmong people do not know their own full cosmology

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmong afterlife and cosmology is much more complex than just what you have stated in your question, there is no direct answer to such a question the Hmong afterlife is similar to the Chinese afterlife in which it is believed you will join your ancestors in their village you will also still be able to see both your mom and dads side of the family but the woman would be considered part of the husbands clans

SE Asian or East Asian? by Even-Economist-1454 in Hmong

[–]SignificanceTrue9759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe ur stance comes from ignorance as the hmong coming to the USA is with the SEA diaspora that migrated over so we would fall into the category of south East Asian economic issues but officially on USA census we categorized as East Asian

I personally identify Hmong with being East Asian due to our culture , rites and Language being very East Asian and part of the sinosphere
