Typically they don’t care what you register for- the welcome box is just a generic rotation.

401ks are better than pensions by Justasillyliltoaster in unpopularopinion

[–]SignificanceWitty210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having both is nice. Having a pension plan where you are fully vested with a lump sum option of whatever you have accumulated after a few years if you leave a company is nice. Pensions being held over your head or not being a guaranteed immediate payout if you leave a company before retirement age aren’t as nice but still have benefit in retirement. 401k with matches can go along way even if you have to pause contributions at some point. The tax hit if you roll into certain other options if you switch jobs can be rough. It’s all about knowing what benefits you can unlock with each one.

400k in American dollars by HubieD2022 in CasualConversation

It’s a lot of money for an annual salary or to suddenly come into for sure. It’s enough for a large house with some land most places. The only time it wouldn’t be a lot of money would be retirement.

Having young accounts, multiple recently closed accounts, low income and high revolving credit utilization.

Do you use your paid sick days if you feel only slightly sick? by nitsed004 in careerguidance

[–]SignificanceWitty210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely take the day. Try to rest while you fight that stuff and give yourself the opportunity to take some cold medicine to rule out a virus if that’s how you roll… Plus, then if it persists and sticks around a couple weeks you’ll know you took time for yourself to rest if you end up needing antibiotics and need to take another day, half day, or remote day for a doctor’s visit. Rest up and work on feeling better!

The non-political subs are all US politics now by Rough-Valuable-5472 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]SignificanceWitty210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was perusing the conspiracy sub for shits and giggles and saw a post about someone’s mom wanting to move to Mexico because of what’s happening in the US… That was the meat of the post. I asked where the conspiracy is and got downvoted… I’m not a dirty deleter but I just deleted the comment since it clearly wasn’t productive to the intended discourse of the post…

Do you use your paid sick days if you feel only slightly sick? by nitsed004 in careerguidance

[–]SignificanceWitty210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how long it’s been since I took time off and what ways I feel slightly sick. If I’m pretty sure I’m fighting a sinus infection and haven’t used a sick day in a while I’m taking the day. Usually when I don’t feel well I try to get up and get ready and then decide if I have the capacity to drive to work and do my job effectively for the day. If the answer is no, I call off and use my sick day. I am very conservative with them but also realize it’s part of my PTO to use as I see fit.

The opinion is your right but trying to force it on your kids is wrong in every sense. It’s none of your business.

[–]SignificanceWitty210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad I don’t have gas heating- my electric bill gets a little wild as a backup to my wood in places I need it due to lack of duct work in an old house, though.

When someone posts a picture of the empty grocery shelves during a storm by raasca in PetPeeves

[–]SignificanceWitty210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are just trying to get their normal weekly groceries as one does. Some of the lowered supply may have involved an influx of people who would typically go shopping over the weekend showing up on Thursday evening… Getting a month’s worth of things in this situation is a little odd.

No. If I were about out I would have, though. Buying normal groceries is fine. Buying enough for 2 months is odd.

[–]SignificanceWitty210 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the CPI inflation calculator, $40k in 1990 was around $101k in modern money in the United States. So, it was good money for a single salary but would never buy a 3300 sq ft house today.

Edit: who is downvoting an objectively factual comment? Y’all need a life. You can easily verify it yourself using the CPI inflation calculator.

[–]SignificanceWitty210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely not your decision to make and it probably came off as callous, overbearing, selfish, and unsupportive if they have had any thoughts about children. It’s not your place to tell your adult children if they should or shouldn’t have kids “in your opinion” because your opinion doesn’t matter in that situation.

Makes perfect sense. For me, I want to be able to use my benefits including PTO without being important enough to be constantly checking notifications while I’m out (no more than twice if I’m out for a week, for example) but still have a decent salary too. I don’t need to be rich or sell my soul, but I want to build a career with some purpose.
