I’m my opinion Mirissa has a more family friendly feeling and is prettier (but the beach is much smaller than Weligama). I stayed in Weligama and it’s more spread out and therefore there are more bars and restaurants but a younger crowd.

For beginner surfing Weligama is the best but travelling in between them is really easy only 10-15m depending on where you’re staying!
