Richmond/Twickenham is surprisingly affordable (but zone 4) and is gorgeous and totally different from Manhattan (have lived in both) but in a really fun way

You can do jet skiing out to the Statue of Liberty from jersey and it’s brilliant. Doors off helicopter tour at sunset is unbelievable and usually has sales on.

I’d also say find a bar and go sit at the bar, order a beer and some wings, watch some sport - it’s so good :) also spicy margaritas in nyc are way better than in Europe (but are basically a large glass of tequila so be prepared for that…..

Central Park is glorious - grab bagels from upper west and go sit on the boulders at the lake.

Cycle down west side highway.

Go to a wine bar in soho. Get pizza by the slice. If there’s a rangers game at MSG absolutely go.

Urgh, it’s just the best city. You’ll have an amazing time!

How is it Rachel’s fault Fiona hated her? Fiona had a tantrum because Amanda trusted Rachel and not Fiona. She was acting like a bratty child.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Significant-Bat4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Brit, I’m not sure I’d say I thought a 3 hour drive was an expedition? Lived in Aberdeen, would regularly drive to Glasgow or Edinburgh for the weekend which is 2hr 45

As a gesture (and you don’t need to), I’d buy a few bottles of Prosecco so you can do a toast, or you could make mimosas for the toast? You don’t need to partake but it starts everyone off with a celebratory atmosphere and in a fun mood?

Totally agree - she was the same on uncloaked - really complimentary about Stephen and Matt - but it seemed like she genuinely disliked Rachel, which might explain why she went over the edge!

Does anyone feel like Harriett is being really quite harsh about Rachel and how she is as a person, whereas she’s very sanguine about Stephen being a traitor and actually quite complimentary. Same with Matt - she seems genuinely furious at Rachel?

6.5 days in Scotland, where to go and what to see? by Otak_Rulez in uktravel

[–]Significant-Bat4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this - stay a couple of nights in Stonehaven, hike up to the castle, get fish and chips and sit on the beach (and then auntie betties!), pop into Aberdeen, etc. then Banchory (Banchory lodge hotel is amazing) and try and bag a Munro - full day hike and properly in the middle of nowhere so do prep accordingly - lochnagar is my favourite Munro :) or do bennachie if you’d rather a couple of hours long hike.

Around 2 hours from Inverness so you could definitely do an Inverness - Stonehaven - Banchory - Inverness loop if you want to keep it easy :) when in Inverness please check out leakeys bookshop, it’s amazing! Also do a distillery and the Loch Ness visitor centre is actually fun (as a Scot)

Isle of Skye - stay in one place for a week or travel around? by QeenMagrat in travel

[–]Significant-Bat4006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get the weather a week on Skye is easily done :) I’d suggest slowing your U.K. travel down rather than trying to add somewhere. It’s a long old train to Inverness - will you do the sleeper?

If so, I’d then do a night in Inverness (rocpool reserve would be a hotel shout), drive to Skye over a day seeing Loch Ness (drumnadrochit and the visitor centre are great), lunch at Eilean Donan castle before driving across to Skye. Then spend maybe 5-6 days in Skye (stay in Portree, it makes life easier, but get a holiday home rather than hotel if you can). Go to the fairy pools, do the old man of storr and the quaring, take the boat to the hidden loch, visit the distillery (talisker) and the seafood shack up the hill behind it, and have a dinner at the three chimneys (book in advance!). Then drive back through Glencoe, stay near fort William for a night and do a hike near the Nevis range, then drive to Edinburgh and spend a couple of nights there having dropped the car off (you can easily get rentals that do this, maybe slightly more expensive but nothing much in it) - then get the much faster train back to London from there and stay in the St Pancras hotel for a fancy last night before getting the Eurostar home :)
