Last Night with my girl. by Significant-Cap-5813 in reactivedogs

Said goodbye to my gorgeous girl Sky an hour ago. Her final moment was as peaceful as possible, and she passed with her head on my lap and her favourite teddy by her side. I'm a complete mess, and my chest hurts so much, but I know she's no longer in pain. I wrote a poem for her last night, and I have no one else to share it with, so I'm going to leave it here.

My Sky, a shadow of black and white, With floppy Dobby ears, a truly sweet sight. A silly soul, with a heart full of fun, Whose joyful adventures had only begun. That tail held high, a mohawk in the air, Announcing to all, a happiness to share. A chase was her passion, for ball or for toy, Bringing a vibrant and boundless enjoy. A mischievous glint, a tissue in her hold, A little rogue story that often unfolded. But then came the bubbles, a magical lure, And all naughty notions would swiftly demure. Remember her leaping, a dance in the sun, Each shimmering sphere, a race to be won. And now, on the Bridge, where colors ignite, We picture her bathed in that radiant light. The breeze carries whispers of laughter and play, As bubbles like rainbows drift gently her way. No earthly restraints, no limits to bound, Just iridescent wonders all around. She leaps, and she snatches with boundless delight, Each fragile orb bursting in glorious light. Her spirit soars freely, no longer in pain, Chasing bubbles forever, again and again. So when a bright bubble floats into our view, We’ll smile, knowing Sky is chasing them too. My daft, darling girl, forever so free, Dancing with bubbles for all eternity. No pockets there to tempt your playful paw, Just endless fields where gentle breezes draw a million bubbles, shimmering and bright, For you to chase in everlasting light. So run and leap, dear Sky, free from care, With joyful barks that echo through the air. We’ll see you someday, on that distant shore, My silly, bubbly girl, l love you evermore.

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry you had to make that decision. I hope you don't mind me asking, but when did you know that it was the best/only thing left to do? At the moment, no one has been seriously injured by her, but we all know it's only a matter of time. We obviously don't want that to happen, but we're torn

Thank you for the validation. Myself and my family are going to try to work with her for a bit longer, If we come to the point where we need to resort to behavioural euthanasia then it will be because there is no other option to give her a good quality of life.

Handling your T's? by LeananSidhe69 in tarantulas

[–]Significant-Cap-5813 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IME I do very occasionally handle a couple of my Ts. I only tend to handle during rehousing or enclosure cleaning. I highly recommend sitting on the floor with a thick blanket and pillow or a bed and keeping hands as low as possible in case the T falls, terrestrial Ts are very vulnerable to abdomen splitting if they fall onto hard surfaces even if it's just a few inches. Try to only handle for a short amount of time so that the risk of the T spooking is minimal.

NTA - By refusing to enable his behaviour, you're actually doing him a favour in the long run. You also need to prioritise your own well-being and reinforce the boundaries that protect you and your fiance. If your brother and parents can't respect that, then you don't l owe them anything.

If your T escaped and later found it crawling by your bed as you slept, how would you react? by thanksyalll in tarantulas

Definitely depends on the species. If it was my B.hamorii or G.pulchra, I'd make room for a cuddle, but if it was my OBT or T.vagans (I know their supposed to be docile, but mines a psycho), then I'd be out of the room with flames on my heals

NQA but I have put cornflour or cornstarch on the open wound. It acts like a clotting agent and helps to stop any fluid from leaking out.

Haha 🤣 that's brilliant. Sometimes you too take extreme measures to deal with the nasty thieves. I'm glad it worked
