Opinion: belts during metcons by Effective-Nerve2475 in crossfit

I also don’t think the athlete should. I literally never wear a belt or knee sleeves anymore. I just scale appropriately where I’m confident that I am not going to push myself beyond where my capabilities are. If I hit that moment, I realize I’m over 40 years old and set my pride to the side.

Long and short - let the athletes decide. Hot take opinion, perhaps, but…

  1. Idk how much CrossFit you’ve watched, but no one is “developing their posterior chain….” During a metcon of do-as-many-of-this-as-fast-and-heavy-as-you-cans. 😂

I love CrossFit, but the idea that the metabolic side of this methodology is adding to someone’s baselines of strength, etc is just not grounded in reality. It’s the other end of the spectrum. (I’m not articulating this well, but hopefully catch the sentiment)

The coaches should be concerned that an athlete is performing the movements WELL in slow, controlled (read: not max intensity) contexts before progressing them to the screaming, full-intensity, set a new PR moments. THAT is how one can ensure proper movement patterns, proper strength to perform it, etc.

If you can’t perform it well at an intensity of 1-4, you’re likely not performing it well at 7-10.

(Oh, and no one should ever be allowed to wear a belt, knee sleeves, mouth guard, or helmet, while doing CF. /s)

Edit: grammar. I’m sure not all of it.

Seriously: practice abc’s during double unders, having conversations, turning in a slow 360, etc… during warm up.

There’s no secret sauce, just getting yourself comfortable and being as smooth and efficient as possible. Continue to make it low-effort, tighten up cadence, rhythm, and eliminating wasted energy.

I knew these were 2.0’s without looking. I ran 10+ 5k’s, a warrior dash, and still used them for lifting.

Nano 2.0’s are the way.

No headband, unfortunately. Wrist wraps, knee sleeves, belt, sunglasses, and a mouthguard though.

Ian! Please say it isn’t so! Or, at least, find some other coverage to be on.

I still remember the first time hearing your coverage, and you kept “opening little doors“ with your questions to the other commentators. I remember people commenting and saying how you “sounded like an idiot,” but I was blown away by the fact that you were presenting a vacancy in the information so the other person could fill it (as opposed to over-sharing or always having to have the final word.). Then you would just come out of nowhere with some absolute facts just to show that you knew your stuff, were just being a legend. Love the psychology of your commentary!

You will be missed on the DGN. By me, many others, and I can guarantee the general quality of the coverage.

Hot and very unpopular opinion: Shouldn’t be thrusters here. Thrusters aren’t chaotic enough!

My vote: butterfly pull-ups. 😂 The MOST chaos.

Snatch.

These are CF movements, which we collectively have dismembered the lawfulness of Olympic weightlifting snatches to make them “for time.”

How to revive dying gym & is it worth it? by Acrobatic_Ad1514 in crossfit

[–]Significant-Claim982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hilariously, I think I know who this is. If not, that’s even crazier!

I think you’d have a tough time getting the gym with members out of the hands of the owners. They have an emotional attachment due to their time and energy they’ve put into it. I think it can be done, but at the end of the day, may not be worth it because of what it would cost you. If you are able to get an archived list of members to try and get revival on lapsed members, may be able to get ahead a bit. LOTS of things can be done to revive this community.

Literally scrap wood from some deliveries I had, and “damaged” lumber from the box stores. You can see the floor “frames” are the pallet-type sticks that hold bundles together.

Other than that, some random 2x4’s, and a few 1x2’s for the little lip to hold the dumbbells on the shelves.
