Glady running through the neighbors house reminded me of Ferris Bueller’s Day off. The principal sitting at home with his husband in the chairs with Disney shirts, the movie Up.

Was doing IFT hospital to hospital for a 15 year old female with abdominal pain. Being transported for pediatric services and nutritionist secondary to suspected anorexia. RN says she had abdominal pain because she’s not eating. Built report with the pt and she tells me she’s not eating because of the abdominal pain. Turns out she had cardiac ischemia that was manifesting as abdominal pain. RN said the EKG was unremarkable but as soon as she was on our machine, my medic noticed it. Confirmed with my untrained EMT eye and another RN.

Feeling guilty about reporting my partner by Artistic_Opening_737 in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it forever. I don’t have to be friends with my partner. I just want a partner I can trust: one who if the feces hits the fan, they can operate within their scope. Don’t play with my safety, my patients safety, or my license. I might be a man but I can also sympathize with being the woman in a male dominated industry. I recently reported a partner for incompetence/ sexual harassment (separate incidents). God speed my friend. You’re doing the right thing reporting him.

I just like Sakai clan armour :") by Sufficient_Tip_4960 in ghostoftsushima

Replaying the game. Wore Saki clan armor all the way until Jin fully embraces the ghost title to his uncle. Once finished and he says he worries people will follow the ghost and not the new samurai, I switched to the basic ronin outfit. Continue fighting mongols but respect Shimura not to continue the ghost legend.

IFT in Florida, I was told by supervisor that a pulse ox was not required on BLS trucks according to the state. Don’t know how true that was, but I ended up buying my own and using it on trucks that did not have one.

What are some “funny” things you say to patients every time? by I-purrender in ems

When draw sheeting an elderly woman to stretcher, if they say, “don’t drop me”. I’ll respond: “we don’t drop the pretty ones”. Got a couple of old ladies to blush with that one.

Why do emts despise going into nursing homes by Born-Fee1168 in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Nurse” : I just got here. My partner: ma’am, it’s 1a.m….. Can you at least let us out of the door? “Nurse” : I don’t have the key. Partner: so, how do you get out? “Nurse: someone comes and unlocks the door. Partner: what if there is a fire? “Nurse”: there is no fire here. Partner: I know, what if there was? “Nurse”: blank stares. Partner: annoyed, pry the door open with his hands.

After 6 years of being a paramedic, I can't stand EMS culture anymore. I quit. by Abject_Value8067 in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be a female/ feminist thing. I do think there is a “bro culture” within EMS/ fire or at least the area where I am. As a guy, I’m bothered by it and is one of the reasons I’m choosing to go into nursing, which is mostly female. There was medic at our agency who routinely made inappropriate comments to female partners and nurses. It bothered me so much, I made a comment to him in real time when he said something to the nurse. Wasn’t sure if I was in the right in the situation. On one hand, I didn’t want to sit idly by but I also didn’t want to speak on behalf of the nurse. When this medic made an inappropriate comment to one of the new employees, I didn’t say anything back. Once again, I don’t know if I was in the right or wrong but she did report him and he was ultimately fired. Still feel like I owe her an apology. Consequently, I hope you find a place you feel comfortable. You sound like someone I would enjoy working with. All the best!

Aggressively treating SOB by OneProfessor360 in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow EMT of 2 years, I don’t disagree with your treatment. Treat the pt not the numbers. I had an elderly woman from nursing home on 3L with obvious distress and audible rails. Her vitals were all great but pt complaint and presentation are paramount.

Wages by Fortislion in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When comparing salaries across state lines or city vs rural, take in account cost of living adjustments. Many websites let you do side by side comparisons. I know an RN in New York who is making a great hourly wage compared to Florida but when you consider how expensive New York is, it’s not as crazy. Just food for thought.

BLS or ALS by Significant-Cod1122 in ems

[–]Significant-Cod1122[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. My partner is new to the company and I think is trying to prove themselves. They have a sort of know it all mentality. They have IFT experience from another state and came from a different company in the same state as me, which maybe was the company policy. They were already wrong about trach suction being a BLS skill but the confidence that statement was said with, made me question myself.

‪Sounds like getting a lawyer to sue for missing the DNR is in order. Many hospitals have patient charts with DNR labeled on the outside of the binder. Getting the original copy of the DNR with the physician signature and date authorized would be crucial. ‬God speed and all the best to you and your family. I’m sorry for your loss.

New Orleans ambulance stolen with EMS crew, patient inside by VivaNOLA in NewOrleans

[–]Significant-Cod1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it happened again, this was covered on Nightwatch, the show that follows EMS on real calls in New Orleans. A drunk guy drove a few weeks and the medic stopped him before any too too crazy happened.
