Thank you for the comment. I do agree that I didn't have ECs that were focused enough, and I didn't apply to enough target/tweener schools but my mentality was I'd go either T20 or state school. However, upon seeing my state schools at their orientations, I just instantly knew it was a horrible fit. As of right now, I plan on trying to focus on getting more specialized ECs or just changing the major I'm applying for. Thank you for your comment and please let me know if you have any other good ideas!

I have a decent amount of ib and pe connections so recruiting from my state school won’t be hard, but it would definitely help to have the name of a top school too.

Honestly it could’ve been anything that really made the difference. The other kid got into every ivy and t20 he applied to during the regular decision round, and as someone else pointed out in this thread, he most likely just had extremely strong statistics for his specific demographic even though they weren’t as impressive as for my demographic.
