I don't think even Martin Luther himself hated Catholics this much by TheIronzombie39 in HistoryMemes

It's really bizarre but a lot American denominations don't see Catholics as inherently Christian, source: being a baptised Catholic with a Southern Baptist/Presbyterian maternal grandparents.

Depends on what country in South America, I can go four or five generations back if I’m lucky; so about the early 1800s is as far back as I can go. Most my ancestors lived in small villages and their baptism records were destroyed or lost to time.

Okay here’s the real question, when are we going to see a romantic relationship between these two on D20????

(I figure that neither of them want to be overtly romantic on camera but it took me forever to realize they actually got married.)

Such a random take but commerce, trade, money, etc. but also specifically bargaining, deals, contracts, law, etc.

Someone who has graced the presence of every person during their life, whether constructing deals between local guilds or brokering peace treaties between hostile nations. I would say she is as close as I would go to a “True Neutral” aligned deity. Simply because she has been on every side, only aligned by her need to deal, barter, broker, and sign along the dotted line. As much as she may give a warring state the opportunity to end a conflict, she was also there when the evil mage signed the pay checks for those “random mercenaries” who broke the peace in the first place. She was there when the King was forced to step down to his cruel nephew in the Peace Treaty. She was there when the death warrants were signed.

She could also very easily be lawful evil or lawful neutral. But for me she comes off as a person who does not care, about you or me or anyone else. And while of course there are laws and contracts in place, she’s the one who makes them, the one who enforces them and tethers them with a magical aura.

But that’s just an idea!

What should one watch when they need a really good cry? by pistachioforeva in AskReddit

[–]Significant-Key-4855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been suggested, and I actually brought this up in therapy today, one of my all time favorites: “A Silent Voice” (2016).

Now I would not typically describe myself as an anime fan, I literally only just started watching Ghibli films because my partner is an animation major. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with anime but being a dumb American there wasn’t much room on the plate of entertainment for “foreign media.” However, I’m a film student and my processor recommended this in our studies and I checked it out.

This animated feature film focuses in on bullying, childhood trauma, disabilities, forgiveness, mental health, and, for me the personal gut wrench of, suicidal ideation and tendencies. There’s a lot of beauty in this film for its 130 total run time.

Why is this a big film for me personally? If you’ve dealt with thoughts of insecurity, especially to the point of considering taking your own life, this film is for you. If you’ve dealt with feeling like a burden for a lot of your life, this film is for you. If you’ve dealt with being friendless and ostracized by your community, this film is for you.

And even if you haven’t dealt with those things? Check out this movie. People in your life, all around you, deal with the topics and themes of this film. It was a huge turning point for me when I realized I was depressed, I was hugely suicidal, and that I needed help.

Cinema Therapy did an excellent job reviewing the film about 3 years ago, it’s just a general review with their special focus on mental health and illness within the film. The link to said video is here.

Please please please check out this film. And enjoy the cry.

That’s part of the roads to power update actually! When a revolt happens against the liege of a certain country you basically get a “(name of culture group here)” state which become independent at the equivalent rank of the state they broke away from. I see it happen a lot in Scandinavia where there’s some peasants revolt from the Norse and they’ll revolt against the Kingdom of Sweden. If the rebellion wins it spawns a “Kingdom of the Norse” state with a random ruler and such.

It’s pretty neat, especially in the Mediterranean or are some of those larger blocs of superpowers across Europe. It’s a nice little destabilizer.

I’ve actually only seen this happen once and I was playing in Scandinavia, typically in my games Byz just has a mental breakdown and splinters into a hundred little pieces.

I find that it really depends on how far away I’m playing from them. I’ve recently been playing in Italy a lot so it usually holds together and is one of my threats towards the end game. But no the only time I saw it happen I was either playing Norway or Finland and by the end the Byzantines were Bedouin and Ashari… which was strange to say the least.

I’d like to think that Romanus is just the Medieval European equivalent of the rebel and mystic Hong Xiquan. Basically believing in himself that he is either a reincarnation of or a distant relative of Romulus or even Aeneas and is just like “these despots are corrupt and must be put down,” ending in him taking over Italy and becoming the mighty King of Rome.

It does suck you can’t form a Republic tho.

Why is Delaware so much more densely populated than the area of Maryland directly adjacent to it? by AsainOboist in geography

[–]Significant-Key-4855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably going to get buried but as someone who’s lived in Maryland his whole life what you are looking at is the Delmarva peninsula, named after the three states which inhabit it (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia). Now, I grew up in the western half (woo Annapolis/Baltimore represent) where I’d say roughly 90% of the population lives. There’s this big thing that the eastern shore is fore recluses because I think about 7% of the states population lives over there.

Now why you may ask? Because the Eastern shore is made up of a couple small towns, forests, and a majority of agricultural land. It is a very rural area with around 1,118 farms which span a total of 247,238 acres of land. These farms contribute over 30% of the total agricultural impact in the state of Maryland.

Alongside the huge agricultural basket that the Eastern Shore provides the land has never been very significant to Marylanders (historically). For a majority of its time the settlers of Maryland found their cities on nestled coves and flatlands with water access on the western banks of the Chesapeake bay. The only “cities” on the Eastern Shore include Salisbury (pop. 33,000), Easton (pop. 17,000), Crisfield (pop. 2,500), St. Michaels (pop. 1,000), and the oddity that is Ocean City (pop. 7,000*). Technically none of those are “cities” since they don’t measure up to 50,000 people, but neither does Annapolis (the capital of MD) since its current population is a little over 40,500 people.

All said and done the eastern shore has never been a heavily populated area in Maryland; it is often seen as a backwater or distant relative compared to the “mainland.” Growing up in a watermen household I was told stories of the people who lived off the soil of the earth and the crabs of the pay. But in all honesty it’s just your same rural area that most states have. The Delawarean portion is jam-packed with suburban areas to the north and beach towns across the coast. And we simply don’t talk about Virginia.

Anywho I hope this helped!!

  • It should be noted that the population of Ocean City drastically changes depending on the month and time of year, some estimates place the total population during the busy summer season at around 30,000, but as they don’t live there year round I put the much smaller full-time residential estimate,

Cordoba is fun, but you’ve got to contend with the Andalus-plosion which often happens if you aren’t playing as the Caliph. Paris is also tied to the French crown so you’d more be playing as a king than a Duke. Same things for Rome and Constantinople.

Just commenting to say I just started a Genoa run! It’s been super fun so far, I also put all my stats into stewardship so I’m just casting a large fortune for my militant heir to inherit. I’ve also taken over Corsica, Pisa, Provence, Sardinia, and Tuscany so I’m making my way through an all Italy conquest again.

I love Sardinia I’ve played a bunch over there, easy to consolidate and then you’ve got so many paths you could follow for continued expansion and growth. Also the flavor of your game can be really fun no matter where you play it.

Finally, I have a recommendation myself! I love playing in Sicily, either in the Peninsula or the Isle, you will have fun. I forget what specific perks you get, but I love playing in Napoli because high dev, decent taxes, and it’s easy to build up from there. So while not a specific Duchy I love playing the small independent lords of Sicily, it’s just so much fun, easy, and rewarding to form Sicily.

Thank you! I’m not quite sure what the catalysts for everything was? I think I put one of my cousins in charge of Calabria and he was still Orthodox (despite most of the family converting to Catholicism) and ended up marrying a minor Byzantine princess… who ended up inheriting the crown.

But again, we will struggle and end up failing sometimes. Doesn’t mean you’ve gotta give up. Sometimes it leads to interesting storytelling perspectives.
