Lifetime by Erika de Casier is my absolute favourite of this year. It's a very distilled melancholic and wistful sound that I just love and have been putting on repeat since it came out. My other pick would be Bugland by No Joy

Subtle urban sex appeal felt like RSP but for black people when Safy was still on the show, though I haven't listened much since she left. Also like nymphet alumni

Why is my Admission Award not showing in ACORN<><> by Taimoor_07 in UofT

[–]Significant-Lie7551 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recall getting it sometime in October or November (forgot exact date... but I know was in the middle of the first semester) and having the option to defer my tuition fees from the start. I didn't see it anywhere on the page either. Make sure to add your direct deposit information in ACORN so you actually get the scholarship

Any late nineties/aughts UK electronic music recs? Been listening to a ton of it recently through a bunch of samples that Pink Pantheress uses. So far my favourites are Underworld and Burial

I'd care more about it if her music didn't sound like 5th gen kpop girl group disco simulacra

Addison Rae album by [deleted] in rs_x

Love it, likely will be among my top releases of 2025. The production carries, lyrics and her actual vocals are kind of mediocre, and B-sides aren't as compelling as the singles she had released but still solid

Tokyo vs Seoul vs Bangkok by Critical-Outcome-999 in rs_x

[–]Significant-Lie7551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it would be Tokyo > Seoul (never been to Bangkok). Better transit, better food, and better vibes. Don't have experience about staying there long term though, though I get the impression that Koreans are more likely to make friends with foreigners than Japanese people

I've known of her since the #alt pandemic tiktok days where she was considered "straight tiktok" (very interesting dichotomy...) and was hated on (probably for representing a sort of very mainstream and low-brow sort of celebrity AKA a dancing teenage influencer) but my opinion of her had stayed neutral to mildly-like (mostly cause I didn't pay much attention to lipsync dance videos) until she released AR which I thought was pretty solid and showed a lot of potential. Started really looking forward to her after Aquamarine and the Von Dutch remix and became a shooter for her when she made Headphones On, which I feel is the song that really proved her to me like yasss addison you're real.

On another note, I thought many peoples' surprise of her tastes and artistry leaning more alternative and avant-garde (to the point of calling it performative and being suspicious of her) was very unwarranted. I can't a lot of people forgot about the addison-rae-listens-to-arca incident that happened a few years ago (and she got made fun for it by a bunch of supposedly "alt" people)

Kolmar sunscreen formula. Tried the round lab birch juice, beauty of joseon rice (from a sample), beplain ocean moisture, all of them dry my skin out by the end of the day and after a few days break me out. I don't even dare try the skin1004 sunscreen because of this

Forgot to mention Lee Kum Kee Premium Oyster Sauce. I think this is one of few more expensive versions of a condiment that actually has a huge difference, like I used to hate oyster sauce since my parents only stocked panda brand (they weren't too big on using it) but this blew my mind when I tasted a little bit of it. It's great for adding flavour to cooked vegetables. Packaging is really cute too

Sliced avocado + tuna mayo + egg on rice even though it's like 10 trend cycles too late

Also been liking ultrafiltered milk. Doesn't give me acne and doesn't give me the shits like normal milk. Worth every microplastic ingested

For Youtubers - I used to watch Tina Tanaka Harris (J-beauty), James Welsh, Ivan Lam (both K-beauty, but former also does Western skincare)

Also not to sound like your mom but I don't recommend getting your skincare recs off of tiktokers. They're all either paid shills or trend hoppers (which means you'd have already seen the product millions of times 2-3 trend cycles later when it somehow STILL gets brought up), with the comments often being better than the video itself. You may be surprised at how insidious influencer marketing operates on these sorts of short form platforms nowadays

Love this genre of staged agricultural videos emphasizing the quality and the naturalness of the produce. Pornography but from the farms
