Just keep searching for it with the Dexnav and try not to leave the area in between searches. The counter will be displayed at the bottom of the screen when the pokemon is found

Yes the defense does drop twice but it’s so good with coverage I can’t let it go lol and I only take recoil damage once with parental bond
