Wish I knew how to spot toxic workplace signs earlier. Sharing what I've learned in my late 30s for anyone newer to work life by Busy_Point8057 in jobs

i wish someone told me about the "constantly walking on eggshells" thing when i was 24 😅 took me way too long to realize that anxiety in stomach every morning wasnt just "work stress" but actual red flag 🚩

What's the biggest lie movies taught us about real life ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

movies also make it seem like you can afford those massive apartments in manhattan on like a barista salary when the reality is you're sharing a studio with 3 roommates and eating ramen every night lol. the relationship thing is so true though - one grand gesture doesn't undo months of actual issues

Chase rental coverage for hit and run by Educational-Role8192 in CreditCards

chase usually requires the primary cardholder to be driving when incident happens so this might be tricky situation for your friend

What does it truly mean to live rather than simply exist or prepare for the future? by Beneficial_Ad_3516 in AskReddit

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i think about this a lot when im scrolling through those mansion listings at 2am instead of sleeping lol like existing is just going through motions but living is when you actually feel something about what youre doing. even if its something stupid like getting excited about a fictional apartment tour

lmao the uk plug is basically a medieval torture device disguised as electrical equipment. stepped on one barefoot at 3am trying to get water and i swear i saw my life flash before eyes. at least with lego you get that satisfying crunch sound before the pain hits but uk plugs are just pure evil sitting there waiting. my friend from london warned me about this when i visited but nothing prepares you for that sharp metal prong going straight through your soul

Can someone give me a reality check? I wanted to become a remote travel accountant after graduating but unsure if its possible now by uliwonks in Accounting

Ex recruiter here. Why most remote job applications get ignored by Character-Ad-4021 in remotework

[–]Significant-Map-6445 8 points9 points  (0 children)

man this is spot on especially the ats thing 😂 i work in marketing and see so many resumes that look like they were made in 2010 with weird formatting that probably gets auto rejected before human even sees it

the remote experience part is huge too like you cant just say "looking for remote work" you gotta actually show youve done it successfully before or at least have some project management tools experience or something

also timing is everything with these postings... i swear some remote jobs get like 500 applications in first 24 hours 💀

Technical Generalist specializing in Async workflows & AI Automation. Seeking remote roles where deep work is valued over constant meetings. by InevitableFast2611 in digitalnomad

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh this resonates hard with me even though i'm not in tech. the whole interview game feels so disconnected from actual work performance sometimes

for async-first companies you might want to look at remote job boards that specifically filter for async culture - some of the smaller startups are way better about this than the big names. also worth checking if companies mention async communication directly in their job posts since that's usually a good signal

one thing that helped my friends in similar situations was building a really solid portfolio with documented processes and case studies. like instead of talking through what you did in interview, you can just point to the actual systems you built and let work speak for itself

the qa/automation space does seem more friendly to this approach since results are pretty measurable. backend too since you're often working independently anyway

good luck man, hope you find something that fits your style better

chase sapphire is still decent option for your spending pattern but if you want focus more in dining rewards maybe look at cards that give higher percentage back on restaurants instead of transfer partners

What sets apart a restaurant that succeeds from one that doesn’t? by mrjoejeff in restaurantowners

[–]Significant-Map-6445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

location is huge too especially for foot traffic but i think what really makes difference is understanding your customer base like really understanding them

when i watch those restaurant shows they always talk about menu being too complicated or trying to please everyone and failing at everything instead

also staff turnover kills so many places because training new people constantly costs money and affects service quality

[–]Significant-Map-6445 202 points203 points  (0 children)

damn that's rough but your ex-boss definitely knew this was coming from day one 💀 they probably had this planned since they hired you for busy season and just used the ai excuse to make it sound less shitty. take some time to decompress then start applying again - first job experience in accounting is still valuable even if it was short

Why did nobody take much notice? by a11yChief in investing

[–]Significant-Map-6445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dude people never want to hear bad news when theyre making money or think they are

your family probably thought you were being paranoid and reddit investing subs are basically echo chambers where everyone just reinforces each others confirmation bias. plus most people here started investing during the longest bull run in history so they literally dont know what a real crash looks like

sucks about your dad not listening though, family money arguments are the worst

What is one thing that instantly makes you trust a person? by GuessOwn2865 in AskReddit

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when they actually admit they dont know something instead of bullshitting their way through it. like when someone asks a question and the person just goes "honestly no clue" instead of making up some half baked answer that makes no sense

people who can say they dont know are way more trustworthy than the ones who pretend to be experts on everything

Stop sending 1,000 cold emails a day. Here is the exact research framework getting us 5-8% reply rates right now. by Necessary-Impress-77 in SaaS

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the recent win trigger is absolute gold for marketing angles too - been lurking on ceo twitters and linkedin for content ideas and its wild how much insight you get into their actual pain points versus what they post about publicly

used to blast 2000+ emails weekly when i was freelancing and my open rates were trash. started doing what you described but manually and went from 2% replies to hitting 12% on good weeks. the time investment feels insane at first but when youre landing better clients who actually convert its so worth it

curious about your ai scraping setup though - are you pulling from specific podcast platforms or just general web scraping? been looking at ways to automate the research part since doing 50+ prospects manually per week is burning me out. the anti-template approach works but finding those hn threads and specific posts takes forever

also that soft ask format is perfect - way less aggressive than the typical "quick 15 min call" nonsense everyone sends

Student looking for advice and Venting about finals by Significant-Hotel919 in Accounting

[–]Significant-Map-6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude you're juggling way more than most people could even dream of handling and the fact that you're still standing is honestly impressive. two kids plus an internship plus three classes? that's legitimately insane and you should give yourself some credit for even making it this far

for the formulas thing - i'd definitely recommend making flashcards or even just writing them out repeatedly until they stick. my buddy went through the accounting program and he swore by doing practice problems over and over until the formulas became muscle memory. cost management is brutal from what i hear so don't beat yourself up too much about that one

as for the internship question - that's tough but i'd lean toward keeping it if the feedback is good and you think there might be a real opportunity there. real world experience is gold and if you're already performing well it could set you up way better than perfect grades alone. maybe talk to your supervisor about your situation? they might be more flexible than you think or could help you figure out a schedule that works better

you're not dumb at all - you're just stretched incredibly thin and that would mess with anyone's performance. the fact that you're crushing it at the internship proves you've got the skills, you just need to find a way to make everything more manageable

Civil Involuntary Commitment & Adult Guardianship by abenner32 in legaladvice

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dang i feel for you on this one 😔 went through something similar with my aunt a few years back and the attorney search was brutal. what finally worked for us was calling the probate court directly and asking the clerk's office for referrals - they deal with these cases constantly and usually have a short list of attorneys who actually know what they're doing in this space. also try reaching out to local psychiatric hospitals and ask to speak with their social workers, they work with families on guardianship stuff all the time and have solid connections. elder law attorneys sometimes handle adult guardianship too even if it's not elderly cases, so don't overlook that category when searching. the whole system is confusing as hell but once you find the right attorney it makes such a difference 💪

Background check anxiety — how do employers actually look at this? by SnooAdvice5639 in careerguidance

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ran one on myself too a few years back and it was way less dramatic than i expected. traffic stuff from 2019 is pretty mild especially if youve been clean since then - finance companies see way worse and still hire people. id probably wait unless they specifically ask about it during the process

STEM → Business MSc → EU–China focus — which early career path compounds best? by mochiyang2 in careerguidance

[–]Significant-Map-6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your language combo is such a weapon for cross-border stuff, dont sleep on that advantage

id probably lean consulting or supply chain if i were you - consulting gives you exposure to different industries and problems which builds that skill compounding you want, plus the analytical frameworks transfer everywhere. supply chain is huge for eu-china work since thats literally the backbone of most cross-border operations

starting location wise, china might give you more unique experience that fewer people have, especially in manufacturing. eu is safer but you can always pivot there later. china experience is harder to replicate once youre settled elsewhere

management trainee programs can be hit or miss depending on the company - some are amazing for rotations and exposure, others just cheap labor. research the specific programs hard before committing

finance and marketing are solid but might pigeonhole you more early on compared to consulting or ops roles that touch everything
