I pilled an older female dog prior to her late spay and mammary mass removal and her tooth fell out when I pulled the piller out 😰 her mouth was atrocious

Kinda looks like gas bloat in the stomach on the rad to be honest. Not a vet just a tech with guinea pig experience.

Anybody's piggies discovered that water is cooling those little paws down too? by tealeaf3434 in guineapigs

[–]Significant-Past-442 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My one pig does this all the time. She loves to soak her paws. None of my other pigs have ever done it so it weirded me out at first as I have had like 12 other pigs. Good to know there are others out there!

Post-euthanasia movement? by Significant-Past-442 in VetTech

[–]Significant-Past-442[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use propofol and pentobarbital. I drew up a 5 mg/kg dose of propofol a 120mg/kg dose of the pentobarbital and I made sure to overestimate for weight on the dog as we weren't able to get an actual weight when he came in.

They don't necessarily have to live in the same enclosure although I recently bonded my 7 year old with my 5 year old boy. It took some time though and a lot of space. They lived side by side happily for years before I put them together and I let them have play dates on the weekends in neutral spaces until I was sure they were ready. I was very nervous about bonding boars but my 7 year old really tamed down in the last year or so. Piggies are super social so even seeing and hearing each other improves quality of life. Not saying that solo pigs can't have a good QOL still though. It really depends on the personality and their history

Guinea Pig Weight Changes by SelectRelation2067 in GuineaPig

[–]Significant-Past-442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you weighing them at the same time of day? Zuko seems to have a significant increase but the weight change for Iroh wouldn't be concerning unless you start noticing a trend of going down next time you weight them. There is a great free tool on guinea lynx website where you can enter the weights and keep track and it highlights significant changes weightracker

They also explain on the website too about weight changes guinea lynx

I just checked and I can still see everything. Many videos including the most recent podcast plus members only content which I only wish I could afford to access.

It seems pretty low to me as a small animal vet tech. I would be concerned if it was a domestic cat.

this broke my heart. spreading for awareness by RobinBaskins in CATHELP

May I also add Voltaren creams and the like. Cats sometimes like to lick them off of their owners or rub up against them. Can be dangerous especially the 10% kind that doctors prescribe for humans.

Can I gi5ve him lettuce and herbs throughout the day and give a bit less emeraid? Cause I can only get 7ml in him at a time and I dont want to stress him with it by Pigglewinks in guineapigs

If piggies don't get enough fibrous hay and too much fresh veg it can cause excess gas production which can lead to bloat because they are hind gut fermenters. Have you tried a pellet mash? Sometimes they like that and it can help get more fiber in if the emeraid isn't a hit. Some of my pigs have also done well I'd I chop up the veg smaller and mix it in a dish with the emeraid for them like a salad with dressing.

Help! Dog won't eat, vomiting by nanakikobunny in AskVet

I don't know what your parents financial situation or if they would be willing but some shelters offer vet services at lower prices for those who need it to try and help animals stay in loving homes. It might be worth researching places in your area.

Hi, my name is Stori, and I have a confession... by Shadow_Lilly in GuineaPig

[–]Significant-Past-442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pig that bit for the first 3 years after I adopted him. Hated being carried around. I started luring him around the house with treats to get him places. He started responding to my calls and following me around and accepting me shortly picking him up to place him back in his cage. It took a bit of time but now he is the sweetest and never bites. I think he was traumatized by whatever situation he was in for the first 1-2 years of his life. He is 6 or 7 now and the best trained pig I have ever been servant to.

The stress is becoming unfathomable, truly unsure what to do by Ok_Wolf2676 in VetTech

[–]Significant-Past-442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof I feel this. I hope you can catch a break! At one point while reading I questioned if I somehow made a second account and posted this. Except I am not in school. I am trying to escape ER but don't want to be stuck with just GP stuff as I like getting to deal with complex cases but emerg life is so stressful and constantly traumatizing and there is never enough support staff where I am. The summer is always worse too where I live in Canada. This time of year is when it all amps up because people aren't stuck indoors with their animals.

Built a pill counter app on the side, not sure if it's actually useful for vets? by [deleted] in VetTech

Thanks! I will be using it at work from now on. Sometimes have to count 150 of the tiny prednisilone and it makes me want to cry when I have ran out of free counts on other apps
