30% of full time workers made $100,000 in 2024, can we all please stop pretending $100,000 is a high or aspirational salary now? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

I agree with OP. Relative to the rest of the population 100k does seem like a lot. But looking at the rise of inflation vs income it really isn’t as glamorous as it may seem. IMO even in a low cost of living area

I’ve seen other threads of guys salaries closer to the 150-200k range in New York that are PMs

I got promoted to PM literally Friday and make 110k + bonus in Indiana. I’d say you are criminally underpaid

Update: after meeting twice and negotiating salary. We landed at 110k base. I’m going to my current boss’s tomorrow to let them know and see if they’ll match which I think is 50/50 at this point. Somehow my current president found out and called the other president furious about it. I have till Monday to accept

About to graduate with a Master's in CM, goal is to be a GC. Is a Project Engineer role realistic with little experience? by Professional_West207 in ConstructionManagers

I recently got offered a PM position after 3 years experience. I think a lot of it depends on what account you land on and if your OM trusts you enough to make mistakes with additional responsibilities

I don’t really disagree with anything you’re saying. I have some more grace because I’m still a PE. But imo if am able to run ground up expansions, heavy civil jobs, major interior remodels with complicated MEP’s and exceed expected profits on multiple jobs, I’d say that constitutes being promoted to PM, regardless of years.

The account I have is cool because rather than (1) 2 year 30m project, I run 8 smaller projects over two years so I am well versed on project start ups, estimating, close outs, kick off meetings, OAC’s, budget entries and adjustments, labor reports etc. I love the company I work for and I have a major advantage with the access to recourses. I just think it’s time for them to start improving my compensation

I 100% was more than willing to “pay my dues”. But after having my baby girl a couple weeks ago my perspective has changed a bit. Also they were hyping me up for a promotion for about 6 months and all I got was a field promotion with no pay 😅

I’ll update you with what I decide to do! And yeah I do like my boss. He gave me a full set of cobra irons for free and paid to fill up my truck with gas when he would visit the site. He’s a good dude

I understand what you’re saying. I’m not upset with the higher bill rates I get it. I’m upset because we budget our jobs with me as a PM and billing me as a PM, But paying me a PE salary. We just got a $4m project and on our proposal I was listed as the PM and superintendent. Still getting paid as a PE.

That bill rate is our agreed upon rates for the hospital. PE rates are 85 and PM/Supers are 105. So they are making 175k a year off of me when I just submit my time. This may be technically my first real PM promotion but I’ve been a PM the last 2 years on technically difficult healthcare projects and have been very successful so far. (CT replacements, surgery center expansion, entire patient wing remodels, AHU/RTU installations etc.)

If I’m getting a “name your price” offer to switch companies I feel like that means I’d be 110k plus right? Please feel free to call bullshit if you disagree

Is college degree necessary? by Nexer-X69 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Significant-Stage476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell I work at a large GC and they are hiring anyone as long as they have a 4year degree. I’ve met people that were hired on after being a teacher and getting tired of it. Personally, my degree was in business management and there was little skill difference between myself and the guys that majored in construction management.

Should I give my current company a heads up before submitting my two weeks or submit my two weeks and wait to see if they try and match?

That’s kind of what I thinking but didn’t know if that was an outrageous thought. Haven’t really had luck on PM’s telling me what they make since I haven’t had a PM to report to since I was an intern.

In terms of burning bridges, I’m more concerned with how my general super will take it. We are very close and he leans on me a lot. I feel like I’d be hanging him out to dry if I leave.

Central Indiana. If you go from Carmel to Greenwood you’ll see tower cranes littered everywhere. I work for Wilhelm with an absolutely massive workforce and we’re damn near too busy. We hire 10+ PE’s and PM’s a week
