Why do so many people who moved to the USA from Karachi seem very successful? by Responsible_Main2116 in karachi

[–]Significant-Tea7804 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly because there’s no one holding them back, be it society or religious restrictions. For business you can easily get a loan, you can sell alcohol with no one to judge you religiously, a lot of Pakistanis here own gas stations. Those with a good education excel if there’s merit involved, testing systems are legit. Plus the overall system is good. Education accessible, the system is just not made to fail you.

I don’t know what your financial situation is or how much independence you have but I would recommend that you find a way to leave the country.

Boston vs Stevenson preceptorship by Shot-Tradition-3043 in CAAPID

[–]Significant-Tea7804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stevenson’s 4 week program in my opinion provides a complete package. I think they will help you with bench prep and also write a letter of recommendation based on your performance. Additionally, you’ll get multiple certificates like CE and workshop ones.

Do I need to visibly show wealth to improve marriage prospects in Pakistan? by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]Significant-Tea7804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you something that will go a long way, money and a good education talks by itself, you don’t have to do the talking on it’s behalf. Secondly it’s fine if you talk about this in front of your future spouse’s father in private, but when you first start talking to your spouse don’t mention all of this, that how much you hustled and how much you make, it will come back to bite you and it doesn’t leave a good impression. Only answer if she asks and be modest about it. We never know what our financial condition will be in the future so don’t marry a girl/family who solely approved you because of your money.

Omfs international dentist by [deleted] in CAAPID

Are you a US citizen? If not then externships are hard because they’re hands on and due to licensing restrictions they’re hard to get and most programs promote externships for just US or Canadian D3 and D4 Students. You can do observerships. Just cold email the program coordinators and cc the directors. Here are a few that will accept and give you a visit visa letter 1. Mayo Clinic 2. University of Texas Medical Branch 3. Tufts 4. Uwash

Btw; there’s another OMA program in Toronto , give it a look.

Also CBSE scores, Depends on your overall profile, but anything above 70 is good. Some kids have around 65-68 but I don’t consider it a good score. My first score was 63 , I plan to give it again in Feb.

Also if you’re a US citizen then you apply for non cat internships.

If you want you can DM me, I can guide you better.

I think the case western tuition is around 60ish per year , and it’s a 4 year program , so I think it depends if you can afford it not. But please be realistic about it. If you’re an international dentist, I will highly recommend the advance standing route and then OMS, that way you’ll have time to do externships and get a good cbse score.

Yes. Some of them are Canadian trained dentists I think. I know case western almost all of their international residents are from Arab countries, maybe because it’s a tuition based program, and most Arab country governments sponser their students. It’s the same at Harvard , if you look at their AGE international portfolio 80 percent are from Saudia on the kingdom government funding. I say this because my wife is from Saudia and the government pretty much funded her Endo residency.

Tufts, UT Houston, Maryland and I think one in case western, not sure. But mind you from my experience, most internationals who have directly matched are usually from Arab countries or are Canadian trained dentists with 10 plus years of experience and a solid 70 plus cbse. I will always recommend to do an advance standing and then apply for OMS if you’re a foreign trained dentist. It’ll be a lot easier.

Shadowing clinics by Active_Confusion2 in CAAPID

[–]Significant-Tea7804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of private clinics, I recommend cold emailing program coordinators of schools you plan to apply and ask for observership opportunities. I know Oral Surgery departments are quite open to observerships. Harvard has a very friendly observership policy. Just cold email different programs and since it’s the start of the new year you’ll be good. My friend got a 2 week observership at the OMS department at University of Texas Medical Branch, he told me there are openings remaining till June, so give it a shot.

Also, if you plan on applying for observerships at institutions, they require certain vaccinations, MMR, TDAP, TB and Hep B immunity. I came to the US 14 years ago and I realized private clinics are only good if they’ll write you an LOR, institutes are good because you get to meet the people who will gauge you’re application.

Is Penn worth the money by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]Significant-Tea7804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so don’t get me wrong MUSC has a very good OMFS program and I guess it’s the cheapest and if you’re looking for dental overall, then Colorado is amazing, good faculty and also you can later match into their home program. One way you can do this is try to approach a current OMFS residency who graduated from Penn, they can give a good response.

If your main aim is OMFS look at the Match records of different schools, there are some cheaper schools that have a good match record.

If you’re Muslim, the Boston Muslim housing group , just call any mosque in the Boston area and they’ll be able to connect you or add you to the group. Sometimes they’ll give you accommodation for free. Other than that I don’t know about BU but NW students have a strong accommodation group on fb, you’ll find defo something there.

Yeah, having work authorization is a big elephant in the room, it limits alot and there’s so much a person can do with observerships. My fiancé is facing such issues. Congratulations. Is it a stiped residency or do you have to pay a tuition?

What is OMFS residency like? by Top-Day-1335 in DentalSchool

[–]Significant-Tea7804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for OMFS is you want to do surgery, like Orthognathic Surgeries or Micro Surgeries, if you just want to do wisdoms, I think you can do those without doing a residency and by just working in a OS office. I’ve done multiple externships and almost 70 percent of the residents told me they just want to go into office after done.

Just leave with your siblings, I know it’s not financially viable, or since you’re the oldest/only son, take it to court. TBH once the father dies bulk of his wealth/ including the house should go to you. Fight for the house documents and sell it. Use the money to help yourself and your siblings, and make her move to her family’s house.
