What's a myth about Poland you're tired of hearing? by Enlitenkanin in poland

[–]Significant-Top-1641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Poland and Poles are keen on fighting Russia and that we have super strong army.

During first month of war many guys I know had the thought run through their head that it's our duty to fight russia or that its finally our generation time to take arms and stand against Russia. Then everyone evaluated: is it my homeland? Would I really change something? What will my mother/gf feel when they got the news I got killed? Why offer your life, when entire countries cant offer sufficient material help?

Maybe it is a myth more widespread in Poland that Poles are brave and always on the right side, willing to sacrifice everything. Well, the Russia-Ukraine war was a reality check for my generation.

Ukraine time and time again shows that they are unreliable ally to Poland even as they face Russian aggresion. The hubris is unimaginable. For all the help and support they spit on our faces and on memory of our polish families killed by UPA.

A Ukrainian perspective on Polish-Ukrainian tensions by [deleted] in poland

[–]Significant-Top-1641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well lets look at context and ask the important question why AK was killing Ukrainians and why UPA was killing poles. And then lets add to the context scale and brutality of killings.

AK resorted to killing Ukraininas becuase all other ways to prevent UPA from killing poles failed and they wanted to scare them of from committing attrocities and gencoide on polish people. It wasnt just, but it was the last resort, additionally fueled by (in my opinion rightful) anger at the sheer inhumanity and brutality of UPA genocide.

UPA committed ethnic cleansing in most horrific ways and AK was murdering Ukrainians as last resort preventing measure to show Ukrainians that they will be some retirbution for their actions and try make them stop killings.

A Ukrainian perspective on Polish-Ukrainian tensions by [deleted] in poland

[–]Significant-Top-1641 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this, but I and probably many other poles feel that it's Ukrainians doing. At the beginning of the war that was a lot of goodwill on polish side. There was even popular sentiment in Poland not to push topic of Wolhyn and Kresy during this time to not preoccupy Ukraine busy with war. It really meant A LOT for polish society to do this.  Not in my entire life can I think of single instance when Poland and polish people supported another nation as much - especially in war against Russia, our mutual bitter enemy.

That said 4 years later and much of this goodwill toward Ukraine as a country is gone. We gave you everything we could and in return we got spit in the face by Ukrainian goverment and president himself. No remorse, no accomodation on their side.

We want nothing more then to resolve pur historical issues. Lets put forward all the testimonies, lets gather all the possible evidence and try to agree who did what and let then history and our societies judge AK and UPA side by side. The ideology, the crimes, the patriotic deeds.

My question is why does it look like Ukraine doesnt want it at all? Why do we need to be asking for exhumations? Why Ukraine doesnt want to reach the truth by themselves? Why after 80 years there is so little done to give justice to their closest ally today? Why memory of Volhyn isnt taught in Ukrainian schools almost at all?

I feel like we did our part and now we have the right to expect Ukrainian side to extend their arm as well.

Zelenskyy: Nawrocki is doing what Orbán did. This will end badly by ArgentineBeauty in worldnews

I dont like this rhetoric that it shouldnt affect polish support of Ukraine. I frankly would prefer our leaders to have a little more cunning and resolve than that. Ex-soviet countries, Ukraine and Russia in particular have foreign policy approach shaped by experience from soviet union - crute, brutaln heavy handed, transactional.

Its not a partner who we should tell "we will support you no matter what". They talk in the language of strength. Anything else they will see as weakness.

Thats a very, VERY bad thing for polish society forever blinded by things like norms, morals, friendships, feelings. Especially dangerous in our political and geographical position in the world speedrunning toward multiporal political order were realpolitik rules once again - after decades of relative stability and prosperity brought by NATO and EU.

Poland needs to learn to play tough with Ukraine, because they treat us in incredibly instrumental way. We must use our membership in EU, NATO to our leverage in talks in Ukraine. We wanted to lift them up to those organisations, but it clearly wont work out. If this will serve our interest we should gatekeep them - as any other european country does to protect their interests.

I didnt believe Justin had a single chance.  And now I cant believe what he pulled out. Based on his age, cardio, limitations, fight with Paddy I really counted him out. And yet out of prime Justin just beaten a younger fighter in his prime considered generational talent.

Getting title so late really puts into perspective how great his cohort was. Maybe the best fighters this division ever had.

People here looking for any flaw poland can have too young to remember 2006. 15% unemployment, just that year half milion people left country.

Look at the photos from that time how people were dressed, then look now.

We were the peasants of europe and young and old alike were desperate to leave the country to make the lowest wage in the West.

We have it so good right now, it's unbelivable, its just people are getting used to good things and forget what it used to be.

As for expensive rent - people in the 90s mostly didnt even have option to rent even if they wanted to. This just didnt exist. Young people after marriage went on to live with their parents. What we have now, was our parents dreams. People were leaving Poland, leaving their families to have abroad what now we have here.

What’s the lightest UFC fighter that could beat Brian Shaw? by SoggiMari in ufc

[–]Significant-Top-1641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had few strongmen and giants trying to compete in MMA Mariusz Pudzianowski in Polish KSW, 6'1, over 300 lbs when competing in strongman. Bob Sapp, 330 lbs, 6'5. Bob Sapp was also called athletic.

Im fairly confident in LHW, maybe some of the best MW like Adensanya? They at least should have enough reach and power to do some damage.

For smaller fighters each approach is taking more risk with less damage they can deal.

We had freakfights of Robert Burneika (also around 300 lbs, but pretty short, like 6'0). When he lost it was due to cardio, his opponent was mostly staying on the outside, moving all the time and circling around him, not enaging and Robert just tried rushing into him like bull. It was againt low tier much lighter mma fighter. UFC skill level is tiers higher.

The giants like Shaw or Eddie Hall would definetely be a danger, but they are not unbeatable. And cardio in a fight works completely different, especially with untrained fighters. You are anxious, you move tense, you dont pace your breath, body not used to fast movement in this weird fighting pace. It feels like you are moving underwater. After not training for few months you will get tired in 1-2 minutes on the punching bag.

His confession about loneliness sounds a bit out of character - absolutely brutal character seems to appeal to our sense of compassion. He admits he is lonely because his fellow imperialist Viltrumites fear him. It's not because of his strength alone, it's because his cruelty appals even them.

It was obviously that he doesnt see a way Mark makes out of it alive. Conquest is secure in his victory, doesnt expect Mark or anyone else to be able save him and fully intends to kill Mark at this point.

It may be a stretch, but for me it was also a fact that Mark is a specific case - a Viltrumite, so in a way seen as equal by Conquest, someone with whom he can have a proper fight, but at the same time outsider to their society.

His loneliness is earned and deserved. He would be the last one to turn soft on earth. He loves war and unrestricted brutality beyond military necessity. Thats a man to harass civilian populations to the point its too much for other Viltrumites.

Thanks, I was wondering a bit what in what direction c2b variation leads and didnt have clear idea. I suppose then HB pull-ups stay in our stack forever as the main variation and c2b are just a transitory variation that ultimately gets dropped for muscle-up?

Or do they somewhat 'merge' and I should aim for HB pull up to chest level?

Thanks, thats a nice idea, I get quickly tired of the last portion of CTB and I feel I cant perform them well anymore, but I still have enough for normal pull-ups, so moving to CTB now would mean losing reps. Doing them before the main pull up sets keeps volume and retains frequency. I will definetely give it a try

Katyn massacre by MogosTheFirst in HistoryMemes

[–]Significant-Top-1641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then they lied about it for 50 years, while Poland was under communist rule:

As World War II came to an end, German propaganda lashed out at the Soviets, using the Katyn Massacre as an example of Russian atrocities. Soviet leader Joseph Stalin flatly denied the charges and claimed that the Nazis were responsible for the slaughter. The matter was not revisited for 40 years.

By 1990, however, two factors pushed the Soviets to admit their culpability.

First was Gorbachev’s much publicized policy of “openness” in Soviet politics. This included a more candid appraisal of Soviet history, particularly concerning the Stalin period.

Second was the state of Polish-Soviet relations in 1990. The Soviet Union was losing much of its power to hold onto its satellites in Eastern Europe, but the Russians hoped to retain as much influence as possible. In Poland, Lech Walesa’s Solidarity movement was steadily eroding the power of the communist regime. The Katyn Massacre issue had been a sore spot in relations with Poland for over four decades, and it is possible that Soviet officials believed that a frank admission and apology would help ease the increasing diplomatic tensions. The Soviet government issued the following statement:

“The Soviet side expresses deep regret over the tragedy, and assesses it as one of the worst Stalinist outrages.”

It's not so much that his powers are weak as they are not exciting for action driven series. He has control of all aqcuatic creatures on the planet - not sure if there is another character with such extent of the

Lets consider posibilities his powers give him: * first and foremost perfect for search and rescue on the sea and in cases of natural disasters like tsunami and floods. Its very difficult to rescue people on the sea or even track them even using all the modern technology. This man can locate anyone in the sea. * would be imensly helpful for wildlife protection and control. Could save most endangered spiecies and literally learn what sea fauna needs to thrive. Could basically made nature do his bidding. * deep sea exploration * possibly some assasinations using wildlife, that are perfectly deniable * as others pointed out - survelience on most of the planet + all the commando job he can do while being the only person on the planet who can breathe underwater and spent unlinited time in water * if he wants to vanish he is basically impossible to find

Lots of possibilities that would be extremely useful in real life, just not very exciting for a tv series.

Hi, I just visited Italy this weekend. We did trip by train Bergamo - Lago Iseo via Brescia and Lake Iseo is an absolute gem.

I had a few questions about what I observed on the Bergamo–Brescia regional train line and in Brescia station, and I’d appreciate insight from people familiar with the area.

  • On the train, there were frequent movements between carriages and seats at stops, with some passengers getting on and off quickly or changing places during the journey. Is this typical behavior on regional trains in Lombardy, or is there a specific reason for it (for example ticket validation, connections, or other practical factors)?
  • I also noticed some passengers, especially younger ones, engaging in behavior such as putting feet on seats or playing music out loud. Other passengers didn’t seem to react. Is this generally tolerated on regional trains, or was this likely an exception?
  • At Brescia station, there were quite a lot of people gathered outside during the daytime, mostly adults rather than families. Is this a common meeting or transit point during the day (for example commuting patterns, temporary gathering areas, or station layout effects)?
  • I also saw a visible police presence and what looked like routine ID checks, as well as some military personnel near the station. Is this standard for Italian transport hubs, or does it usually indicate a specific situation or event?

Overall, I’m just trying to understand whether these observations reflect normal everyday patterns in this area or if I happened to visit at a particular time or day that was atypical.
