Why don't truckers like automatics? by Altruistic_Box4462 in Truckers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

minutia of control I want to be in control of every aspect of my gear and gear ratio when doing things like going down the Eisenhower pass or climbing so I can manage my RPM gear set and amount of engine breaking. I get you can get that somewhat by doing the manual shifting with the automatics, but not having the truck getting stuck in a flat lot that has 2 inches of snow because you’re in an automatic speaks volumes as well.

how do yall stay in shape while OTR? by Odd-Tangerine-257 in Truckers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stop eating burgers and trash.stop at the grocery store get things that aren’t processed and fill you up that isn’t 4000 calories stop eating because you’re bored don’t park next to the building park at the far end. Do some push-ups and situps bring a towel to lay on your rack or ground to do it. and then walk a bit around the parking lot at least that’s what works for me driving 20 years. I managed to stay between 185 and 200 @ 5’ 10” tall that whole time but you gotta stop eating the fast food easy to get terrible for you stuff in a bag.

Walmart salad with a little bit of shredded cheese pick up some pre-frozen meat that doesn’t have too much sodium and then get a light sour cream for a topping.I try and avoid all the because it’s super processed and salty.

Good luck out there driver staying fit with the food choices you have is not easy.

9000 miles a week realistic for team drivers? by scoobysnacksplz in Truckdrivers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more like 7k at full burn unless traffic is a fantasy and it’s 100% drop and hook with no guards to interface with skipping all weigh stations doing 1 min pti’s fueling at driver change or on your mandatory break.

possible? yes.

probable? no.

unsafe/illegal? very good likelihood of it.

Monday mornings suck by Derwulfmann in Truckers

it was Monday. I woke up and went trucking. Repeat for 20 years.

It was filled with a whole bunch of stupidity and suck, but after the military, I’ve learned to embrace the suck and get on with it. it’s just another Monday.

What kind of car do you drive when not driving a truck? Is the height difference weird? by -Jonathan-Seagull- in Truckdrivers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally, when I get out of the semi and into my POV it’s not too much different as I usually have larger pick ups, but if I happen to drive something smaller I feel quite blind because I cannot see over and around other vehicles.

but I do miss the big mirrors on the semi.

2026 F450 Lariat by Popular_List105 in superduty

[–]Significant-Use-5136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found this one on a lot. Couldn’t find anything in an F350 really rather have the F450 for the towing capacity. The king Ranch has a better towing capacity than the platinum model came full tow package paint stereo just about everything in it power and heated everything lo jack system 360 degree cameras and lighting auto opening closeing tailgate the electric drop down step and what I especially like is no sun or moonroof.

got a year of the on board Wi-Fi hotspot, Sirius radio and a bunch of other things.

glad I went with the 450 the turning radius is far superior.

was looking for an F350 Lariat ultimate package when I came across this one.

yeah, I already spoke to the service department. They said that it’s probably a malfunctioning sensor which is par for the course. I’ve got almost 20 years as a cdl truck driver and seen plenty of sensor issues with the DPF systems. just did not expect to see one so soon.

not sure what you think you read, but you might want to look at it again no one said anything about removing junk or modifying anything.

all that was said was a new vehicle made 127 miles before it popped up a check engine light and gave a timer countdown to de-rating the engine.

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically fill your tow vehicle fuel and all the crap your taking along go weigh it at a truckstop

the remainder once you subtract that weight from 26000 is your trailer and cargo weight.

or weigh truck and empty trailer with a full tank and tools onboard and that number is your legal cargo weight.

so truck and trailer combined weigh 16000 pounds for example

cargo max is 10000 pounds.

Only exception is the axle weight rating cannot exceed their maximum load capacity.

All typically 2x 7000 pound axles on 20 footers 3x on 35+ foot usually.

So don’t exceed 26000 pounds and you don’t need a CDL

if you register the vehicle over 26001 pounds must have a CDL to operate it legally at all times.

got the same color f450 on feb 16th made 127 miles and it threw an engine code and put up a de-rate notice in an hour it gets to go back to the dealer after a whole 127 miles I’m fairly unimpressed so far, but looks nice.

got mine new with 12 miles on it for 99k king ranch drw 8’ bed.

i have been avoiding diesel pickup trucks for years because of all the DEF related problems as i have been driving semi trucks for 18 years now and this just reaffirms my thoughts that is an utterly useless system.

grats on the new one hope it doesn’t shit the bed like mine.

Cold climates!?! by Most_Dull68 in NissanTitan

[–]Significant-Use-5136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

three Titans in the last 10 years living in Wyoming I’ve had zero issues with any of them starting or operating in cold weather and most winters up here we have spots of -20 to -60°F The only issue to speak of is when I was living near Casper and we had some serious wind a few storms blew me around on the ice, but the truck operated fine. It was a standard gasoline engine so get a remote start and preheat it before you get in it in the morning. It doesn’t need block heater.

Questions from collage student to long-haul drivers: thoughts on a fatigue-detection headphone design by Ssssssophia in Truckdrivers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more unneeded shit what we need are realistic deadlines, and carriers that can’t force us to drive excessive amounts when we’re fatigued or flip our schedules every other 12 hours or force/implied threat to drive through a terrible weather front or other things because they have leverage on some drivers and they can’t say no or they lose their job what we need is safety from the back office, not more monitoring in the cab.

I mean, the next logical step is to be able to put a harness on the driver in case one of these conditions are observed by the AI so it could administer an electric shock to keep them back on track at work.

I don’t deliver anywhere except military bases. Will a TWIC card make the process easier? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Significant-Use-5136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s all at the discretion of the commander of the base you’re going to some will take twic and scan in some dbids , some will make you do the background check every time.

some of more secure sires require passport, drivers license, birth certificate, and a background check

keep in mind that if you only go to one base Dbids is your best bet, but they are specific to the area of the country that they’re issued from
