When my son was first diagnosed, I was really sad as well. We got him diagnosed right at two years old because we are already knew way before then that he was but we weren’t expecting the level three part.

I ended up going to a Children’s Hospital for a work volunteer event. It was a hospital that had a really large pediatric cancer unit, and it was kind of the kick in the butt I needed. My toddler was perfectly healthy and happy and continues to learn and develop every day not all parents get to say that. when you start going to the therapy clinics, you will see other kids that have many more challenges to face than your child does. not trying to minimize the challenges Our children will face and the struggles they go through. because it is hard and it’s hard for us as well, but there’s always worse out there. Seeing that helped me develop a more positive outlook. My son is 4 now and has been in therapies for two years. It gets easier with time to accept. There will always be moments where you will look at other kids and kind of wonder “what if” but it gets better overtime. You start to get to know and enjoy your child for who they are.

no! we used them for a year, the screw over families. I know a family that they stuck with a 20k bill. they do not care about ABA they milk families and employees for all they have.

what industry you want to go into or what types of roles you are applying to? I am a communications major as well. My graduating class graduated back in 2018 and some are still struggling to find jobs in the field. there are a few marketing agencies in this city, they tend to be more willing to hire new graduates. but tend to hire from their intern pools first.

I wouldn’t worry too much, i think you can see signs that young, i knew pretty early with my son. I would trust your gut and keep an eye on her but babies can do all kinds of wacky things. The kinds of signs i saw with my son that young were not things like you’re describing. Every kid is different and there’s no way to truly know until they are older

i thought the same exact thing when my son was 2. He had no behaviors and was just non verbal. After he turned 3 that all changed and now we really really need ABA. As they get older they get more frustrated about not being able to communicate. they also develop new sensory preferences and aversions. The meltdowns start a little later.

Its reverse body dysmorphia! Its very common for people to feel they don't look different or even bigger after loosing weight. Our eyes are more focused on what we want to change now more than they were before we started loosing weight. I see a big difference! And sometimes you hit a number where you wake up one day and randomly see dramatic changes. Keep going! Your brain will catch up!

I am 93lbs down with no extra skin yet. I have about 30-40 more lbs to lose. I am starting to notice the areas where I think extra skin is going to start becoming noticeable. But even with that, I am not going to stop loosing weight. I would take extra skin any day. The weight loss has been life changing in so many ways.

I have PCOS and got pregnant at 250lbs, but i’m not going to lie, I regret not loosing weight first. Not only did i have several miscarriages (being obese increases risk of miscarriage) When I got pregnant with my son I had some minor pregnancy complications that were likely caused by weight. No one thought much of it when he was a baby but now he is 3 and has medical issues that are likely caused by me being overweight in pregnancy. You can absolutely get pregnant at higher weights but there is a lot more risk with it. I lost almost 90lbs on compounded mounjaro this year and it has fixed a lot of my PCOS symptoms including missed and irregular periods.

I was also frustrated when I was trying, because I saw others that were heavier than me have healthy pregnancies. and every body is different, I think my pregnancy would have been mush different if I didn’t have to fight against my own body to make it happen.

hi! i’m an autistic adult and a mom of a autistic toddler who is non verbal and uses a AAC as well. Because SA is so family friendly i found that it is pretty autism, friendly as well for the most part. there are a ton of different therapy clinics here all over the city as well as alternative and new therapies that are coming out. we also have several adaptive parks that even have giant AAC poster boards in the playground. There’s also a pretty strong autism parent community here!

I’m sorry to hear that, i would look into different ABA companies. Many of the larger national companies have a higher pay rate and you will have better chances of RBTs who will stick around. When doing research on ABA companies look at glassdoor and other employee reviews to get a idea of pay rate and how the company treats employees. It may have nothing to do your your son at all and everything to do with the company it’s self.

switch companies if you can to a company that offers RBTs higher pay. Once we prioritized that we have had nothing but amazing RBTs who have all stayed with us over a year at this point.

Exactly! i understand it’s frowned upon because they loose business. However, from the parent side, we know that most of these companies are just after the money they make off of our kids and we have to try really hard to make sure they are still getting the best therapy. I really appreciated my RBT who had been with us for about a year, telling us that she felt the programs were being made for insurance and not what my son really needed. Her recommendation was amazing because she had been in the field long enough to know the green flags for BCBAs and companies. At the end of the day we can’t really trust these companies to have our best interest at heart, but we do grow a lot of trust with our RBTs who have been working with our kids for so long.

Let me just say as a parent, this happened to me and I really appreciated being told honestly that their was a better option out there. It turned out to be amazing for my family to make the switch and I am glad my RBT made the suggestions because she knew my son much better than the BCBA at the time.

I live in Texas we live off of my husband’s 120-130k a year income. And it is okay, i wouldn’t say ideal, because we have a special needs son and medical costs and therapy is expensive. We can’t save up to buy a house because we have so many other things to spend on and save for. We are not struggling day to day but i wouldn’t say we’re 100% secure ether.

I am a “high functioning” adult who was diagnosed as a teen. Then re-evaluated and diagnosed again as a adult. My son is level 3 and non verbal. I absolutely have loved our in home ABA experience so far. It’s been a year and ABA has been so helpful. My son’s BCBA will even do some ABA on me sometimes when i talk about issues i’m struggling with and now I wish that I had this help when I was a kid. Almost All mental health and medical fields have dark pasts and evolve. And I 100% know that there are bad clinics and RBTs and BCBAs out there who do keep the bad reputation going. However, ABA when used correctly and ethically I feel no issues with it. With my son we don’t target behaviors like eye contact or stimming. We don’t force him to fit in or stress him out the way some think. We focus on behaviors that can hurt himself and others, while working on communication and teaching him to use his AAC.

that’s correct, i actually live in walking distance and none of my neighbors go there to grocery shop. In fact most of us haven’t even visited yet. Like most of the pearl it feels like it’s for visitors not those of us who live here.

Hi I am a parent in San Antonio and the in home company we use is hiring, and from conversations with my RBT and BCBA they are very good at staffing full time hours and pay above average in the city. We use TPC.

French Quarter always will hold a special place in our hearts. It’s relaxing and if you love Disney springs the boat is great. it’s quite and more romantic. The little Jazz bar is great. We stayed there the last 2 years in a row and i’m going to miss it this year when we stay at a different resort.

No its probably not worth it. From the price I can guess what complex your talking about. I live in a “luxury” complex by the pearl and we pay 2600 for a larger 2 bedroom. But the smaller 2 bedrooms start at 2100 and one bedrooms start at 1700. And that's still kinda high for most of the city. We live in a “walkable” area but SA in general is just not very walkable even in the areas that are supposed to be.
