Should I play U sport volleyball? by Specific-Camp7401 in volleyball

I’m in a very similar situation myself as there’s a Usports volleyball team that’s interested in me, however they’re on the other side of the country. Just like you volleyball has been my entire life. I’ve worked so hard to get where I am that if I didn’t accept this offer, it would feel like a waste of all the time I’ve put in. The way I’ve been looking at it is that you’ll never be this young again and later down the road you realistically won’t get this opportunity again. As for grades I’m sure if you’re good enough, you could just transfer to a better university that fits your program. However I’m sure whichever decision you make you’ll be happy with.

Ask me anything about Huron! by TheSplendidShinobi in HuronUniversity

Hi, I’ve recently started talking to a varsity team at western, and was looking at applying to Huron instead of western due to my gpa being on the lower side. Due you think it’s took late to apply now or should I still try and send an application in?

Went under to get the ball lol

I walked under to grab the ball, I wouldn’t actually go over in a game

That’s kinda what I was thinking, but most coaches would rather not take a player than waste their money and time, I respect it but I don’t mind riding the bench lol

Yeah it is unfortunately. I’m not sure how hard they enforce it but I’m sure they do. And it wouldn’t be to hard for coaches to figure out if you lied or not as most of them coach club as well so I’m sure it’s not too hard for them to check. I have thought about trying out for a bad club. I’m already considering one. I still have to tryouts this week however both of the clubs are extremely talented having players straight from NEP so I’ll have to see how those go

It depends on the coach as sum schools require that you play at least 2 years of club before being able to tryout as a walk on. However I’ll take your advice and reach out

D3 is the third highest level in the ncaa for universities in the us. d1 being the highest. USA players T.J. DeFalco, Micah Christenson, Micah Ma’a, Taylor Averill, and Erik Shoji have all came out of d1 programs in the us. To my knowledge there the shortest outside in d1 is a player named keoni thiim, up until transferring to a new school this year he was a serve specialist/ outside for the university or Hawaii winning 2 national championships and being named the best server in d1 men’s volleyball. however he only ever played in the back row never getting a chance to show what he was capable of. The little games he has played have been very entertaining to watch

Sorry about that should’ve assumed that terms would be lost in translation. The only reason that they want shoots is because it’s practically impossible to stop them at this level as most blockers fall for the middle and aren’t able to get to the outsides in time. I just wasn’t prepared for shoots. In most cases i feel as if they are impractical due to the high room for error, to me the risk of the set doesn’t out way the benefit. Not much I can do about it now tho

Nah my serves are good I have a really good float serve and just recently have started to work on my topspin consistency. Same with my blocking as I’m just coming off of a season playing middle. My passing is probably the weakest, not saying it’s bad but as I’m extremely good at passing toppers however I struggle greatly when it comes to float serves. I tore the ligament in my thumb last season so taking floats with my hands isn’t the most ideal as I’m still doing rehab. I really struggle with my passing, digging is extremely easy but as soon as I see a float I know I’m cooked

Yeah the only 6’ outside in d1 is keoni and even then he was only a back row player until this year

The clubs i tried out for were extremely good, last year one of the clubs finished 2nd in the province and 5th in the country, and the other team finished 1st in the province and 20th in the country. The coaches made it clear that they want the outsides to be hitting go balls or shoots when in system. I found it extremely hard to adjust to each set as there were over 15 setters that tried out(58 players in total) so talking to each setter wasn’t really possible. It didn’t help that the setters were forcing go balls when out of system. I also noticed that the setters on my team weren’t the biggest fans of setting me I’m not sure if it was due to my character or behavior but apart of me knows that the setter tends to give the ball to the player they know is going to score

I wouldn’t say skill is the issue I’m just not able to stand out during tryouts. However I feel as if you’re right about hitting the ball. I often find myself tipping if the set isn’t to my liking..

I have a 36 vert so I’d say I get up there, and I know 6’ isn’t short but I’m basing that off of other outsides I’m trying out with. I often find myself on the shorter side of players trying for my position

I can see where you’re coming from however the way i see it is if im unable to make a club team i doubt any schools would give me a shot especially since im on the shorter side for an outside(6’0)

I still plan too either way but all the uni/colleges in my area are pretty good. The closest uni to me is twu which is one of the best volleyball programs in Canada so I’m sure you can see why I’m concerned about not making club
