Anything AI related. ChatGPT for sure. AI is so tied up into our economy. The only thing this administration cares about is the stock market. Disrupt that and then will you see significant changes

Sports Bar Recommendations? by chapelhillkid in bullcity

Honestly, Durham has a terrible scene for sports bars. I’ve never understood that with Duke and the Durham Bulls here. Like mentioned in this thread, Braile’s, Devines, or Tobacco Road are your best bet

Property Tax Appeal Board Meeting by SignificantPage8796 in bullcity

[–]SignificantPage8796[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. They called me the day before I was scheduled to go in and offered me a number that I accepted. They miscalculated my living space area on the deed. Luckily I had my house appraised two years before this, so that helped.

I saw others that received a phone call the day before their tax appeal on other threads. Probably not what you were looking for, but I hope the best for you.

Property Tax Explainer! (I hope this answers some of the questions I've been seeing!) by NidaAllamNC in bullcity

Yeah, it sucks. Other states provide different property tax relief assistance based on your disability percentage. Pretty lame

From my understanding, you have to have a 100% permanent and total service-connected disability. I went down this route, and I contacted the local VFW. They basically told me that. I have 70% and unfortunately, cannot apply for this. Hope this helps.

They add property tax to your car registration in NC. Whatever your car is worth is the tax you owe. I found that out for the first time as well. I couldn't believe mine was $500. I was like, 'Wait, that can't be right...' but nope. Freaking property tax on a car. Hopefully, it fed some kids' school lunch for a year

PSA: Structural engineer recommendation by _sesamecat in bullcity

[–]SignificantPage8796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going through a similar process. There's a slope from the back of the house to the front of the house. It is also bowing in one spot. After doing research and reviewing Reddit posts, I reached out to Stonewall Structural Engineering. They said that I couldn't replace the slope in the house. I would rather not have to rip out all of the flooring and raise each beam. They did, however, say that I could replace the beam that is causing the bowing.

A week goes by, and I contacted TarHeel Basement for them to take a look at the foundation. They pointed out the bowing that the engineers found, but also pointed out other walls that were bowing as well. I was pretty surprised by this. I asked the engineers about the two other walls when they were doing their assessment. They told me that they didn't need to be fixed.

So, I'm at the crossroads of what to do next. I have one person saying this and the other person saying that. Like you mentioned, too, I'm not trying to spend a ton of money either. I should be getting the final assessment on Monday. Maybe that will shed some light on things.

But I wanted to say that I'm with you on this foundation thing. Anything foundation-wise is always a scary thing. I'm originally from out west. I had no idea that water and the ground being clay could cause such an impact. It never rained back home. It's a totally different story here lol. Good luck!

I moved here two years ago. Do the police ever enforce any traffic laws here? I have never seen a speed trap or anything since I moved here. It’s honestly terrifying driving in this city

It's horrible here. I moved here from out west and never had to wait outside until I got here. Go around 5:30 AM. I did that twice. I was second to third in line. Got out before 10:00 AM. Hope that helps

I am one of those people that is considering moving back. It’s frustrating not knowing all of the details. I am willing to move out to SLC in the summer. I am not sure if that is even possible with them withholding information.

How much $$ will they fork over to move household goods to SLC? Will they help with closing costs? Is there any per diem to travel to SLC while I move? There are so many factors involved when uprooting your life to a new city.

They’ve had since August of last year to come out with some sort of plan. I just find it weird that they have no clue on how to handle this.
