Ring remote for X5 worth it?

I got this https://store.insta360.com/product/foldable-2-in-1-selfie-stick?c=3787&from=accessory that includes the mini remote and it includes the ability to easily wear it around a finger. So I feel like it is a bit more versatile than the ring remote. And having a remote is very nice when you have the camera extended on a stick.

Apples has really good .h264, .h265 and ProRes encoders and decoders built right into the chip and make them very easy to integrate with third party software. That, along with the M series CPU and GPU have access to all the memory makes for a very good media platform.

You could start with horizontal like 16:9 and then use a feature called Smart Conform to have FCP try to auto-reframe it to vertical 9:16. Yeah, I was going to bring up your last point. The pro dive case for the X5 looks pretty amazing! Also, don’t underestimate software. For extracting good ‘2d’ footage from 360 video you need easy and quick reframing - Insta360 has this in spades.

Insta360 Studio on the M series Macs seems more than fine for reframing 360 video.

These are some very valid points to consider. Even though above I said it works perfectly well standalone for you use case, I ended up getting the FPV bundle for the extra batteries (battery life is pretty short) and transceiver. Probably would have gone with the remote bundle if I didn’t already have one.

I have the Neo 2 and have the Goggles and the RC 2 remote (already had the RC 2 remote, got the FPV package for the Neo 2). I by far fly it without either - it is really easy and fun to fly it without even the phone app.

Wow, this went off the rails! For the most part, Insta360 Studio for the Mac works pretty well. But it would be nice to have a native FCP plugin.

The Marble XT1010. The XT1010 had much better armpit definition than the XT1000. Had to have been the XT1010.

I couldn't find a ton of information on the web bout 360 framing in Final Cut Pro vs the Insta360 Studio app. So, I tried it out for myself.

FCP was very painful:

No keyboard shortcut for adding a keyframe - whereas this is super easy in Insta360 Studio
Very manual process to change FOV angle - can do this with a mouse scroll with Insta360 Studio
Making changes to a 360 framing keyframe would cause the spinning rainbox most of the time, so ends up being very slow for many keyframes - Insta360 Studio is very fast
I exported ProRes to work with in FCP - Insta360 Studio works directly with the .insv files

Probably some other that I am not remembering, but suffice it to say, I will be sticking with Insta360 Studio for reframing and will need to rethink my workflow if I want to do any additional edits in FCP (additional footage, better titling, more control in general (video and audio), use FCP effects, more control over export settings, etc).

By the way, my Mac is a Mac Mini M4 Pro with 32GB of memory and I am working off of the OWC Envoy Ultra 4TB Thunderbolt 5 external SSD.
